I can remember taking this pic. The falls were running very heavy, and the water was deafening. The depth of the water at the base of the falls was over 8 ft. The Falls are located in Terryville, CT. My old hometown prior to retirement to CO.

In 1896, the Bridge River Gold Mining Co. developed a hydraulic mine at the Horseshoe Bend on Bridge RiverThe company began hydraulicking in 1902. The Horseshoe Bend is located on Highway 40, along the Bridge River just south of the confluence of the Bridge and Yalakom Rivers.

Wrapped in a beautiful evening, I stood in this alpine meadow at twelve thousand feet and looked south. Horseshoe Lake is on the right at the base of Hermit Peak - 13,350'. From the lake, there is Unnamed Point - 13,005' and finally Eureka Mountain - 13,507' peeking out in the background.

The Sangre de Christos are one of my favorite mountain ranges in the country and I am very honored to have again seen them in their majesty.

Superstition, HMM. The horseshoe needs to be upright -- otherwise, if down, your luck runs out. Don't let your luck run out!

We experienced a lot of rain and cloudy weather while staying in Page, Arizona. The back country roads we wanted to travel were largely inaccessible. Thus we visited Horseshoe Bend several times because we could travel there on paved roads. The 1,000 feet deep canyon is amazing. While we did see the sun burst through storm clouds during our stay, I confess it wasn't at the time of visiting Horseshoe Bend. But the magic of Photoshop helped me get the sky I wanted!

Happy Slider Sunday!

Page, Arizona. Nowhere near as crowded as in our past visits, it was a lot more fun visiting without all of the tour buses.

...taken on a recent trip to Tasmania, Horseshoe Falls is situated in the Mt. Field National Park, the waterfall itself is encased in a natural ampitheatre with eye catching rainforest, and despite not being as well known as the nearby Russell Falls, many would regard it as the treasure of Mt. Field National Park.

Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, United States

The overlook is 4,200 feet (1,300 m) above sea level, and the Colorado River is at 3,200 feet (980 m) above sea level, making it a 1,000-foot (300 m) drop

Bighorn Lake is visible at Horseshoe Bend in Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. The Matina’s boat dock is visible on the left side of the photo. Horseshoe bend is locted east of Lovell Wyoming in the Bighorn Basin. On the left the Bighorn Mountains can be seen in the distance. The red rocks belong to the Triassic Chugwater Formation and mke up the hills and cliffs just above the west side (right side of the ohoto) of the reservoir. Above the Chugwater are the Gypsum Springs, Sundance and Morrison Formations. The Cretaceous Cloverly Formation forms the top of the hill.

Of course you take the typical photograph of Horseshoe Bend with the full turn in the river, but you should also explore the area a little more. The lines and shapes in the sandstone can be quite interesting. Page, Arizona, USA, March 2023

Horseshoe Bend near Page Arizona, taken in May of 2015 during our vacation. This was taken between the raindrops that were with us all day,

Less than 10 minutes up the path from the more well known Russell Falls in Tasmania is Horseshoe Falls, which is a much smaller waterfall with two drops and the ability to get very close to the action.

I visited on a near freezing morning in late October and was amazed by the colour and composition of both the waterfall and the rainforest itself.

The Colorado River started to cut through endless layers of rock, and when it ran into Horseshoe Bend, it creates this natural, sculptural landscape. The river eventually went around it, and now there is a 270-degree bend in the river which created the now-famous horseshoe shape. The sheer Cliff walls are made of Navajo Sandstone, a particularly dense type of sandstone. In the process of erosion, the sandstone acted as a natural barrier, forcing the water to make a sharp bend in the river thorough softer rocks.

from the archives, as evidence for my friend Anja, I was there.
