MRT Tracks: ER wanted to wait for the train to pass by but, it was drizzling so I hurried him to head to Geylang Serai Market which is a short distance away.
ER’s initial intention of having these boiled bamboo shoots for pariah/spring rolls made good in this stir-fry dish instead. Other vegetables include carrot and soaked dried mushroom. The addition of dried shrimps had added the much desired flavor, simple and yummy. These vacuum-packed bamboo shoots ER bought from the neighbourhood supermarket have a nice fragrance, something that I like :)
Punggol's best roast meat stall so far. Or we, personally, would say it's much beta than the stalls supported heavily with advertisement. This humble stall is run by a couple from Hong-Kong.
The roast duck here reminds us of those we ate in Penang. Sweet crusty juicy duck skin & sweet tender duck meat. You don't need to go to a restaurant to enjoy this!! - Rika

homestyle cheese flan with caramelized sugar
A cross between baked cheesecake with eggy flan flavour.
French beans that had been sliced thinly were easier to cook through and absorbed flavours better. I should have thinly sliced the chicken fillets too.

Though the train looked empty now, passengers trickled in along the route; it was filled up minutes later.

There was a performance in Chinatown Food Street tonight by artists from Malaysia, Taiwan and Singapore. We did not stay long enough to see it. This show certainly was a crowd puller both to tourists and locals. The compere was heard introducing the varieties of foods from here before the show began at 1900.
These people were dancing to the tune of lively country and western music...whether to the youth or elderly, this is a good way to relax and exercise.
Tempura is seafood and vegetables coated with tempura batter and then deep-fried. Although tempura is a popular Japanese food today, interestingly, it was the Portuguese who introduced it to Japan.
This dish came to mind when Rika and I were talking about lunch. At home, we ate tempura with rice but, always without a dipping sauce :) Between, Rika is in the midst of preparing for her semester exam.
The basic ingredients of tempura flour are: wheat flour, cornstarch, baking powder and egg flour.
For more information and recipe on tempura, pls visit: www.japan-guide.com/r/e106.html and for more Japanese food: www.japan-guide.com/r/e1.html
Homestyle pandesal (a rather dense and hearty "salt bread") is crowned with a sweet twist on florentine called laing (taro root leaves, coconut milk, shrimp paste, and chilies), a poached egg, calamansi lime hollandaise, and jumbo grilled prawns. On the side are kamote fries (a white sweet potato best enjoyed with a bottle of banana ketchup).
