The first O-2 flew in January 1967 and the plane went into production shortly thereafter, with the USAF taking delivery in March 1967. A total of 532 O-2s were built in two variants for the USAF by 1970. The O-2A served as a FAC aircraft with the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron, while the O-2B was equipped with loudspeakers and a leaflet dispenser for use in the psychological operations (PSYOPS) role. Several USAF O-2 aircraft were later transferred to and operated by the former VNAF South Vietnamese Air Force.[3]

Following the Vietnam War, the O-2 continued to operate with both U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard units well into the late 1980s. Six former USAF O-2A airframes were also transferred to the U.S. Navy in 1983 for use as "range controllers" with Attack Squadron 122 (VA-122), the Pacific Fleet Replacement Squadron for the A-7 Corsair II at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California. These same aircraft were later transferred to Strike Fighter Squadron 125 (VFA-125), the F/A-18 Hornet FRS at NAS Lemoore, in 1986 for use in the same range control role.[4]

The six Navy O-2A's remained in this role until September 1990, when they were replaced by T-34C Turbo Mentor aircraft transferred from the Naval Air Training Command. Four of the Navy O-2A aircraft were retired and two of these became civil registered in October 1991. These two aircraft were flown in U.S. airshows performing a "Viet Nam Warbird COIN/FAC" routine during the 1990s. The routine debuted at the "Wings Over Houston" (Texas) airshow in October 1991.[citation needed]

Of the six USN aircraft mentioned above, two were transferred to the U.S. Army in late 1990.[4] O-2As had originally entered the U.S. Army's inventory in 1967 from USAF stocks and were augmented by the 1990 aircraft transfer from the U.S. Navy. Several disassembled USAF O-2s remain in storage at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona.[4] Two O-2As were used at Laguna Army Airfield, Arizona as part of testing programs carried out by the Yuma Proving Ground. These were retired in October 2010 and sent to a museum.[1]

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a federal law enforcement agency under the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), responsible for identifying, investigating, and dismantling vulnerabilities regarding the nation's border, economic, transportation, and infrastructure security. The largest components within DHS are Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Enforcement & Removal Operations (ERO). Headquartered in Washington, D.C., ICE is charged with the investigation and enforcement of over 400 federal statutes within the United States, and maintains attachés at major U.S. embassies overseas. Consequently, Homeland Security Investigations Special Agents possess the broadest investigative authority within the United States government.

Either way, it's rather intimidating...

Sandia engineers designed the Gemini-Scout Mine Rescue Robot to identify dangers and provide relief to trapped miners. The robot is able to navigate through 18 inches of water, crawl over boulders and rubble piles, and move in ahead of rescuers to evaluate precarious environments and help plan operations. The Dolphin is primarily a Short Range Recovery (SRR) aircraft. There are now total of 102 Dolphins in the Coast Guard Fleet. The fleet has home ports in 17 cities on the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Gulf of Mexico, Hawaii, and the Great Lakes region.[1]

The Dolphin is usually deployed from shore but it can be deployed from medium and high endurance Coast Guard Cutters, as well as the Polar Icebreakers. The Dolphin's main jobs are: search and rescue, enforcement of laws and treaties (including drug interdiction), polar ice breaking, marine environmental protection including pollution control, and military readiness.

I took this shot and was zooming in looking and... Well you can see at least 2 rifles. I could not make them out at all with my eye from the street in front of the white-house. It seems like they have a nice setup there. The only thing missing is someone to actually pull the trigger...

Sandia researchers work on the CANARY Event Detection Software, which is open source software developed by in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency to enhance the detection of terrorist attacks or natural contaminants to public drinking water systems. The projected image shows what a utility operator might see, including a map locating a sensor that has detected contamination, a graph (top) that shows a measurement of water quality at the sensor and another graph showing the operator the probability that the water has been contaminated.

Sandia researchers in their laboratory work with new imaging techniques to view cell-level activity with unprecedented detail. Exactly how and why the cell’s defenses fail against some invaders while successfully fending off others has long been a mystery.

The novel super-resolution microscopy technique developed at Sandia is providing new answers to old questions by unveiling never-before-seen detail of the cell membrane. The insights gleaned from the research could open doors to new diagnostics, prevention, and treatment techniques. The research supports Sandia’s biological threat reduction programs and could be expanded to support biofuels research.

Washington D.C., Monday afternoon May 20, 2013. The Home Defenders League, Occupy and other social justice activists numbering 500 by my rough count marched from Freedom Plaza to the Department Of Justice to demand that government hold the banks accountable for the ongoing home foreclosure crisis. The demonstrators succeeded in breaching the line of heavily armed police and Homeland Security officers and in blocking the main entrance to the building. Over twenty demonstrators were arrested for acts of nonviolent civil disobedience, mainly because they crossed police lines.

Many family members and close friends of the candidates came to show their support for this special event. Constitution Day is celebrated on Sept. 17 in remembrance of the signing of the Constitution in 1787. Since 1952, Citizenship Day has been celebrated in conjunction with Constitution Day, although Congress first underscored the significance of United States citizenship in 1940, when Congress designated the third Sunday in May as “I Am an American Day.”

N22PP is a Bell 412EP, Serial Number 36219, manufactured in 1998. It is operated by the United States Park Police in and around the District of Columbia where it performs law enforcement as well as search and rescue duties. The United States Park Police predates both the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service. It was established in 1791 by George Washington and has served in Federal parks for more than 200 years. The United States Park Police is now a unit of the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, with jurisdiction in all National Park Service areas and certain other Federal and State lands. The United States Park Police provide law enforcement services to designated areas primarily in the Washington, District of Columbia, New York City, New York and San Francisco, California metropolitan areas.

The Aviation Unit of the United States Park Police was established in April 1973 with one Bell 206B JetRanger and a staff of three Pilots and three Rescue Technicians. At that time the unit was based at the Anacostia Naval Air Station. A second helicopter, a Bell 206B III JetRanger, was added in 1975 and the Unit relocated to Andrews AFB. The Aviation Unit moved to its present facility in Anacostia Park, the "Eagle's Nest," in 1976. In 1983, the 206B-III was replaced by a Bell206L-III LongRanger. The first twin-engine helicopter, a Bell 412SP, and the third helicopter to carry the designation "Eagle One," was placed in service in January 1991. The Unit grew to its current staff, and began providing 24-hour coverage in January 1994.

In August 1999, the Unit took delivery of its second twin-engine helicopter, the Bell 412EP pictured above. It became the fourth helicopter in the unit history to carry the designation "Eagle One" and the same registration number as that of an earlier aircraft whose crew affected the rescue of victims after the crash of Air Florida, Flight 90.

The missions of the United States Park Police Aviation Unit include aviation support for law enforcement, medical evacuation, search and rescue, high-risk prisoner transport and Presidential and dignitary security. The Aviation Unit has provided accident free service for over 38 years.
