The little one was using the big one as a pillow. He looked up as I took his picture. They were all huddled together on one rock in the Monterey Bay. The view from the Navy Pier.

I guess the stairs lead some place important, because the police told me to stop taking pictures....for security reasons.

I was having my car serviced and decided to visit the mall next door. There is a carousel at the TRACY mall that is functional but not in use when I arrived. So I pulled out my camera and commenced to take a couple of shots.

Immediately after taking the 2 images that make up this panorama, a security guard came up to me and advised me that the mall policy was no photographs because of the Homeland Security Act. (do wut?!!!!) So I packed up and left, ate breakfast, thought about it and went back to the mall where I found the security office and told them of the exchange. They were quite surprised of course. .... [ What do friends do if they take pics of each other at the mall? Go to jail? ] .... I told them of my photographic interests, what I do for a living; i.e., FBI has my fingerprints, I've had a security background check, etc etc etc.

The mall office gave me the green light to shoot away but not at the "store fronts". But within 5 minutes of exiting their office my car was ready and I no longer had any further interest to take pictures of the carousel creatures. Maybe I'll go back and tell the guard to kiss my #*&!$@.

It was crowded on Lincoln BLVD in the Presidio this afternoon. But it would have been a lot worse for my drive home, had I took Doyle Drive to the GG Bridge.

Quittin' Time

Walking back to Ops during the last 15 minutes of a long flying day, a DHS P-3B is silhouetted by the setting Florida sun.

A lucky candid.

I was out shooting the ruins of Battery Godfrey when suddenly this unknown kid leaps across and onto the adjacent roof. If I hadn't of already had the camera up to my eye, I'd never have captured it.

Walking under the George Washington Bridge, be careful, if you have a camera.

A portly gentleman asked me what I was doing. Told him I was taking pictures of the bridge. During our conversation a State Police car pulled up and an officer got out and started questioning me. I asked them if I was being detained, they said no but it wont look good. So I said what do you mean it wont look good.

To make a long story short. I have been around most of the NYC bridges taking pictures day and night, what ever technology they are using, enables them to recognize repeat visitors. So you could say I am flagged. The State Police wanted to see what parts of the bridge I was taking pictures of, so I showed him. All was okay except the one taken at the base of the bridge were all the security equipment is.

They nicely asked me to delete it.

The police were very friendly and non threatening. I did ask them if there are people who try to take close ups of the underside of the bridge, they said yes and it is worry some.

So the next time you are lurking around under a bridge with a camera beware, big brother really is watching you!

EXPLORE 2/21/09

Yes, I am aware that in the film, this is by definition a droid, but just for the sake of letting me try to fit in with the month, pretend this is a drone :P At least it ain't a meatsack.

But yes. Very much inspired by the Homeland Droids from Elysium, because I'm not original enough to come up with a design on my own. Not yet, anyhow, but give it time.

And yes, this is far from perfect, but it's been a while since I've built anything Mech-related at all, and even then I was relatively rubbish.

So yep. I won't be passing up the opportunity to build out of my comfort zone for once this year. Droneuary is a go for me, so there should be more builds on the way.

Also, cheers Zach for inspiring me to actually build goddamn anything at all.

And I'm back to my older camera, with not-as-good photo-taking abilities, because my younger sister borrowed my newer one and has since 'misplaced it'. Pretty bloody helpful. Sarcasm.

Snapped this at the Albuquerque Sunport. If you've been to an airport anywhere in the world you know they put up these long security fences. The one here in The Duke City is relatively small compared to some.

Lovely 1934 building designed by C.W. Dickey & Herbert C. Cayton.
