Well we made the effort of driving to Holy island at 0345am to guarantee we beat the tide over the causeway...so glad we did, we were treated an extraordinary dawn sky. The sky really did look as stunning as this with a tremndous red glow that seemed to last for an age.

Holy Island, or Lindisfarne as it's also known, is one of the most beautiful places anywhere in the world and simply oozes history wherever you wander. It's importance to Christianity cannot be understated with its 7th century monastery serving as a home to St Cuthbert and also drawing the first significant Viking attack on Western Europe in 793. This pano (processed in glorious HDR once again!) depicts the much more modern Lindifarne Castle which was built in the 16th century before being altered and restored in 1901. More photos to follow!
I captured this well-defined lenticular cloud over the Holy Cross Wilderness. Mt. of the Holy Cross (14,009'), after which the wildreness is named, is the peak on the far right.
One of the first (and best) lightning photos I've ever taken. Recently had to edit it black and white for a customer. I love the drama the black and white edit gives it. The lights in the left lower corner are the cattle sale barn at the north end of our town. While I didn't get the lights of the whole town, I think this proves just how small we really are.

One of the beautiful breaking waves off the coast of Shetland this summer. It's hard to ever tire of the simple pleasure of watching waves breaking. Holy Roller Novocaine is by Kings of Leon
Why is hemp agrimony called holy rope?
The plant was known to some as Holy Rope, because they thought it was used to make the rope that bound Jesus Christ (again a connection to hemp, used for rope-making). Another name was Ague Weed, as it was believed to relieve fevers, and even prevent them. Not recommended for medicinal use, despite the claims.
