The Holy Isle (Scottish Gaelic: Eilean MoLaise) is one of a number of islands in the United Kingdom which go under the name "Holy Island". It is located in the Firth of Clyde off the west coast of central Scotland, inside Lamlash Bay on the larger island of Arran. The island is around 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) long and around 1 kilometre (0.6 mi) wide. Its highest point is the hill Mullach Mòr.

The island has a long history as a sacred site, with a spring or holy well held to have healing properties, the hermit cave of 6th century monk St Molaise, and evidence of a 13th-century monastery. An old Gaelic name for the island was Eilean MoLaise, Molaise's Island; this is the origin (via Elmolaise and Limolas) of "Lamlash", the name of the village on Arran that faces Holy Island.

Some runic writing is to be found on the roof of St Molaise's cave and a Viking fleet sheltered between Arran and Holy Isle before the Battle of Largs.

In 1549, Dean Monro wrote of the "little ile callit the yle of Molass, quherin there was foundit by Johne, Lord of the iles, ane monastry of friars, which is decayit."[10]

On Christmas Eve, I stood in the brick streets and looked up at the snow that had begun to fall. This year, it was a white Christmas. I wish you a happy Christmas too✨

Barkhor place in front of Jokhang Temple (House of Buddha) is a Tibetan holy pilgrimage site in Lhasa, where from dawn to dusk devotees make three circuits around the temple on Barkhor Street in a clockwise direction according to Buddhist principle. In the middle of the square, water is throw on burning juniper to produce thick smoke that fills the air.

A shot from Holy Island is kind of Christmassy isn't it?

Merry Chrismas to one and all and fingers crossed for 2017.

A portrait of Cow.

I hope you will like it!

Enjoy.

Such an lovely and iconic Tacoma view that we have come to know and love. It is visable in many directions. Unfortunately, it is unsafe (they say) and needs a very expensive upgrade. The funds are not secured yet and the church is closed. I don't think the steeple is lit at night anymore either. Prayers for them getting the funding!

It was a fun one to shoot from the back side, off of 34th street, with the 100-400 S and polarizer.

Thank you for your warm and kind words, and comments on a cold March day in the NW. You are all very much appreciated!

CASTLE STALKER,where many scenes from Monty Python's "Monty Python and the Holy Grail " were filmed

King Arthur: I am your king.

Peasant Woman: Well, I didn't vote for you.

King Arthur: You don't vote for kings.

Peasant Woman: Well, how'd you become king, then?

[Angelic music plays... ]

King Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. That is why I am your king.

Dennis the Peasant: Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Arthur: Be quiet!

Dennis the Peasant: You can't expect to wield supreme power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!

Arthur: Shut up

Dennis the Peasant: I mean, if I went around saying I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Arthur: [grabs Dennis] Shut up! Will you shut up?!

Dennis: Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system!

Arthur: [shakes Dennis] Shut up!

Dennis: Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help, help, I'm being repressed!

Arthur: Bloody Peasant!

Dennis: Ooh, what a giveaway!

The Collegiate Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, Stratford-upon-Avon is a Grade I listed parish church of the Church of England in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England.

It is often known simply as Holy Trinity Church or as Shakespeare's Church, due to its fame as the place of baptism and burial of William Shakespeare. More than 200,000 tourists visit the church each year.

I planned to visit Stratford-upon-Avon and photograph Holy Trinity church through the willow trees on the banks of the river Avon, but it was difficult to find an unobstructed balanced composition, so I settled on this view across the river instead. I will probably revisit this location at other times of the year to compare the view during different seasons.

Well we made the effort of driving to Holy island at 0345am to guarantee we beat the tide over the causeway...so glad we did, we were treated an extraordinary dawn sky. The sky really did look as stunning as this with a tremndous red glow that seemed to last for an age.

my first attempt at capturing the Milky Way - even got a little bit of Aurora as a bonus
