This is one of a series of hollows along Spruce Run in Southern Ohio. The area of this photo is composed primarily of sandstone. Over many years, water and ice have caused the sandstone to give way above and create huge hollows like this one.
Making the journey to a hollow like this one can be challenging. After you've arrived here, you feel like you've arrived in another world. All around you is an eco-system which is different than the hardwood forest above. Down here are primarily evergreen trees and cool air year around, and ferns in the warm seasons. It is a place of peace and tranquility, worlds away from the cities full of traffic and noise.

I made this LEGO MOC of a traveller crossing a large Hollow Log Bridge for the Bridging the Gap category of Summer Joust 2022.
We travelled down to Grand Marais, MN yesterday to see Travis Navitsky's photo exhibition at the Johnson Heritage Centre. The afternoon light was so lovely when we stopped at Hollow Rock for a quick photo shoot. I was lucky to capture this starburst shining down on the glistening, melting lake ice. Soon there won't be any left - daytime temperatures today and tomorrow are supposed to be 8 degrees Celsius.
A sunken lane (also hollow way or holloway) is a road or track that is significantly lower than the land on either side, not formed by the (recent) engineering of a road cutting but possibly of much greater age.

A small section of the Dark Hollow Falls in Shenandoah National Park. The fall foliage was at its peak, making for a surreal setting of astonishing beauty. I never wanted to leave!

All that remains of a Common Puffball after the slugs & other leaf litter creatures had had their fill.
Even though the water levels were rather low on my visit to Log Hollow Falls, I still found a very nice setting. The amount of fresh leaves down in and around the water and the falls was quite a sight and definitely made for a nice mood. :) -H3
Wandering around your local woodland can reveal a host of secrets and little scenes in miniature to photograph, however it takes a while for you photographers eye to focus in on the woodland mushrooms and woodland toadstools that make their homes in the wet nooks and crannies of the dead wood.
Allowing your eye adjust to the challenge is the key thing to remember and having a dedicated macro lens really helps with close up photography by bringing the miniature subjects to life, once you have found them within the chaos of the woodland photography environment.
Armed with my trusty Pentax K1 and 100mm f/2.8 Pentax Macro Lens.
