A barn with wonderful overgrowth on the silo near Preston Hollow, NY. I have shot this barn before.

I think I was the only person in NW Washington cursing the clearing clouds. Rain - come back!! :)

Went for a day roadtrip along the west end of the North Cascades Highway to check out a few creeks. First stop was up Thornton Lakes road to check out Sky Creek. Snow stopped my car but sadly not my feet. By the time I ended up at Swayel falls I sometimes postholing up to my hip. Looks like a nice little spot but too much snow for scrambling and photos.

Next up was Happy Creek. End of the road at the moment as the remainder is still closed for winter. But took the Ross Lake trail for a bit then picked my way to the bottom of Cedar Hollow Falls. I really enjoyed the atmosphere here. And thankfully these falls face North so I could take photos in the shade.

On the way back, the final stop was Pyramid Creek. A fun mossy scramble was had there. Especially the awkward straddling of a fallen log and sliding across above the water.

How I love smudgy trees. I'm really pleased with how this one has come out.

It was pouring with rain when I took the (three) shots I've used to compile this image. The rain drops on the lens add to the distortion. Thankfully the Fuji still works...

A view of the Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse surrounded by ice on the Hudson River. The lighthouse sits north of the Tappen Zee Bridge about 15 miles north of Manhattan, NYC.

This is the 'Fred Hollows' ferry, a Sydney Ferries catamaran, built by 'Incat' in Hobart, Tasmania.

It is arriving at the McMahon's Point Wharf, on Lavender Bay (Sydney harbour).

Photographed near sunset with my Canon EOS 5D Mk IV, with the Canon 24-105mm lens.

This ferry is dedicated to the memory of Fred Hollows who was a gifted ophthalmologist. He was born in New Zealand but, after studying in the UK, came to Australia where he was named 'Australian of the Year' in 1990.

He was committed to restoring the sight of people in Australia, Nepal, Eritrea (in Africa) and Vietnam, et.al., most especially the disadvantaged and/or indigenous people of those countries. He gave up so much of his time and money to help people gain or re-gain their sight.

Interestingly he was a member of the Communist Party in the 1950s. He sadly died at the age of only 63, in 1993, of renal cancer.

Took some photos of Ares for my friend, Kass. :3

Tidbit about Ares. He looks like he gets into a lot of fights, he looks like trouble.

Actually, he's the embodiment of "Courage." And as my character, he got all the scars stopping fights. Never starting them. :3

He's a peacemaker.

Thank you for commenting and faving my photos :-)

Our Daily Challenge - Hollow Hearts (Best explore position #5)

Tonight, I really was just trying to get through the day. I was really tired so I had the perfect Sunday of sitting on the couch and watching / napping all the Sunday football games.... I'm also getting completely destroyed in Fantasy Football this week so I had another reason to sleep and just chill.

Anyway, I wasn't really feeling it so I went cliche (and not even very well either...lol) Hollow heart apples are NOT made easily... Anyway, upload and then watching Dexter the rest of the night before its back to the grindstone.

Cow Hollow Wood is a 40-acre ancient woodland in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire. It is managed by the Woodland Trust and is open to the public. The wood is home to a variety of trees, including oak, ash, and hazel, and is a haven for wildlife.

Coming in low and approaching at semi-sonic.

another specimen I cut at the clubhouse wednesday and this one, with some unfilled pocket-rot cells, is from Live Oak County.

I wrote a bunch of different captions for this. About darkness, Alice in Wonderland, and what it means to peer into the unknown. I erased them all. What I really want to say is this: I made this for anyone who is searching and who feels alone. That’s all. And that’s just about everyone, sometimes. That’s me.

“Hollow Places”, self-portrait May 2020

Accompanying poem:

Hollow places, vast and full,

you temper darkness with cracks and holes

and answer us in rhythmic constancy.

Those expansive,beckoning hollows

warn us to go but there are those who will stay

to understand the emptiness of it, or to fill it.

Echoes are easy companions.

They answer us straight-forwardly,

without pretense or reservation.

Hello?

Hello.

Is anybody there?

Is anybody there.

That is a darkness no one sees;

to be emptied of light is an eternity

that only dead stars endure.

Who are we, then, but the dust of that

infinite light extinguished,

transformed into curiosity embodied?

To the explorers and the venturers,

and to the pilots weaving their vessels through

a long and winding darkness -

To you, stay.

To you, stay.

To you, stay.

In the winter months it's a little more like Sleepy Hollow, you expect to see Ichabod Crane come racing up the path trying to escape the headless horseman.

Today is day 230 of Project 365 (Tuesday).

Off the shore of Lake Superior in Grand Portage, MN.

There are many unique places to explore down in Hocking Hills in southeast Ohio. Conkles Hollow is definitely one of them. Situated off S.R. 374 on Big Pine Road, Conkles Hollow is a rugged, rocky gorge - considered one of the deepest in Ohio. The trail leading up the narrow half-mile long ravine is surrounded by vertical cliffs rising over 200 feet above the mouth of the gorge, When the weather is wet, numerous waterfalls can be found cascading down the cliffs on both sides of the gorge. This is a photo of the reward found at the very back of the hollow.

Skyline Drive MP 36.4, elevation 3,320 feet

Shenandoah National Park

Page County, Virginia

In mid-August a few years ago, we were fortunate to be at Jewell Hollow overlook in Shenandoah National Park (Skyline Drive MP 36.4, elevation 3320 ft) in late afternoon, where the warm sunlight enhanced the beauty of the mountain ridges and Shenandoah Valley below us. Skyline Drive runs close to county lines; while the road appears to be in Madison County at this point, this part of the overlook almost surely is in Page County.
