Copacabana after an Atlantic storm - what could be more fun?

I was cursing that storm a couple of days before because I was trying to get to Luton airport and all the railways were closed...in retrospect it was worth the journey from hell just to get these great waves the first morning of the holiday.

I never get tired of looking at or photographing the Canadian Rockies. This was taken at the entrance to Banff National Park on the east side near the town of Canmore, Alberta. The leaves turning color and a light dusting of snow gives us the hint that winter is on its way.

Following a trip down through The Common, up the River Blyth, making our way across to Walberswick and a ferry back to Southwold Harbour, that lovely August weather still seems to be with us.

A view of Southwold Harbour and the boats and jetties of the River Blyth along with the nets and paraphernalia of the fishermen on the East Suffolk coast.

Waking up to this view of Copacabana Beach, Rio! Couldn't wait to get down there!

Now returned from a brilliant bucket list trip to Brazil, Falkland Islands, Chile, Argentina, Peru and Bermuda! So many gorgeous sights to see....

I am taking these chronologically and Flickr will be my photo album. This means that after today there will dozens of uploads every day until I am done! I don't expect my contacts to bother with them all so don't feel bad about not looking!

Some of you have been following my trip on Facebook. I'm not a big FB fan or user but did find it quite useful to let some people know where I was. If any of you want to join me on FB then just drop me a line.

Afro-Colombian women, dressed in the traditional ‘palenquera’ costume, sell fruits on the street of Cartagena, Colombia. With the peace agreement, ending a 52-year civil conflict and promising political stability, together with rapid economic growth and unexploited tourism potential, Colombia has truly become a holiday destination. Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage site on the tropical Caribbean coast, plays the primary role in Colombia’s tourism renaissance. The historic sites from the Spanish colonial times are being restored, private investments are visible throughout the city and an increased number of local people benefit from the boom of the travel related services. © Jan Sochor Photography

TUS, Razavi Khorasan, Iran — Sculpture of Rostam's arrow blinding Esfandyar's eye, in the underground hall below the tomb of the Iranian medieval poet Ferdowsi, author of the Shahnameh epic. Like many stories in the Shahname which are taken from older world literature, the killing of Esfandyar and his vulnerability is a copy of the older legend of Achilles in Greece. Esfandyar had submerged himself in a lake of zinc to become protected, but he closed his eyes under the metallic liquid.

LORD HOWE ISLAND GALLERIES

AUSTRALIA

Google Map of Lord Howe Island

We were fortunate to have the opportunity to take Kayaks out onto the lagoon at the lowest tide the locals could remember.

With lots of colourful coral visible at the surface it was a rare photographic opportunity.

The two mountains to the East of the Lagoon, Mt Lidgbird (775m) and Mt Gower (875m) give a real "lost world" feel to this World Heritage listed island paradise.

In my view Lord Howe Island is a 'must visit' place along with Machu Pichu and the Perito Moreno Glacier & White Island, NZ, four of the most spectacular places I have ever been.

I came across this PDF Doc by McAllan et al on bird species made extinct on Lord Howe from a PDF File I found on the last item on this Google Search page. Will relocate it under a more appropriate image later.

www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&r...

"The island has sadly lost most of its endemic taxa, following the usual scenario of Pacific Island wildlife disasters, the flightless White Gallinule (gone by 1853) and White-throated Pigeon (gone by 1869) due to hunting, then the Red-crowned Parakeet derivative to the same cause later by 1880. The real tragedy came with the grounding of the SS Mokambo in 1918, as the island was rat free up to that point. Within a decade the endemic Robust White-eye, Lord Howe (Grey or NZ) Fantail, Lord Howe (Slender-billed) White-eye, Tasman Starling and Vinous-tinted (Island) Thrush were gone, with the Lord Howe Gerygone following by 1936. The wave of extinction continued as the endemic albaria form of Boobook then vanished in the 1950’s, ironically probably due to the Masked and Barn Owls imported to control the rats. Amazingly the Woodhen lingered on atop the peaks and was the subject of a highly successful rescue operation in the 1980’s. The endemic forms of Silvereye and Golden Whistler remain common, seemingly able to co-exist with ship rats."

Sadly man always finds a way to wreak destruction in paradise.

They come with cameras, backpacks, maps (digital and paper), and an air of hopeful confusion. From the Royal Mile to Stockbridge, Edinburgh plays host to a parade of curious explorers: some lost, some lingering, many utterly photogenic. This album captures the charm, the fashion, and the wonderfully awkward angles of tourists discovering a city that always rewards wandering #TouristsInEdinburgh

Are you worried about the traffic in Maldives? Well, there is no reason to worry. All you have to do is check here; we have the latest traffic report for Maldives. This way you will know if there is road construction or a traffic accident that will cause you to be late for an important event in Maldives. If you know there is trouble ahead, you will be able to divert the situation and go another route. Do not let a traffic jam have you late for an important event in Maldives, use are traffic report.;P

Male - the capital. A tiny island, about 2 km long and 1 km large - and 65000 people inhabiting it. Of course this causes traffic jams... which is not exactly your idea of a maldivian island. male is the "other" Maldives: tall white concrete buildings, hundreds of little streets, one beach - artificial by the way. Definitely not pretty, but truly intriguing.

It's really clean and tidy - and has some interesting mosques, modern and old - and very little else in terms of things to see. Male is bursting, and new islands are being taken over or built to make room for the new Males.
