Olympus Trip 35

Kodak Portra 400

Taken: 8/8/2022

So, going again for some creative try-out with the flash.

This time I wanted to achieve a very peculiar look, blowing the background completely: I set the slave flash to Manual mode and cranked the power up, pointing it upward to have the light bouncing on the ceiling. I chose this spot in the living room purposely because of the white walls and ceiling. This way, I got that skewed histogram with a lot happening on the right, pure white.

In hindsight I would have liked to have the whole leaf in focus. I think I'll try this again in the future, maybe stacking focus, keeping this one as a memento.

Surligner l'horizon

This photo had very high contrast and was underexposed to get full drawing in the highlights. In oder to manage contrast masking of the sky with AI was very helpful so I could get well balanced tonal values at the foreground too. The mask was also advantegeous for editing the sky and the landscape separately regarding white balance.

Now, a few days later, I can see at the webcam that the most of the snow has melted away with the warm temperatures so this was a good opportunity at the end of April.

I KNOW, I am slightly obessive about taking wave shots, but, even if I say so myself, the ones I took down at Ballycastle the other day really were crackers.

So I am indulging myself by putting another one up.

My hooley dooley wave is my fave shot, but this is a close contender. I just loved the way the light sliced across it, highlighting all the colours in the wave from the icy, icy blue greens to the golden hues where the wave picks up the sand.

Yes, I am waxing lyrical!!!

Ohhhhh how I wished I could have got to BallyCastle yesterday.

We had a major, major storm that ran for two days and I have been in typhoons in Hong Kong where the wind wasn't half as strong as what I experienced yesterday.

It was far too dangerous though as the wind was making my little mini swerve all over the place, so I had to contend with going down to Downhill beach.

Bit disappointed as I have seen bigger waves on non windy days!!! And to cap it off, walking back to the car which took forever, I was facing the wind and got sand blasted!

Did have the beach to myself though!!!

ALWAYS BETTER ON BLACK

11/366

This was my first attempt in trying to use an off camera flash to give a completely black background. I definitely found a technique I'll want to mess around with more.

It was right before I was going to read my son his bedtime stories and put him to bed when I remembered i still needed a picture for the day. I had to persuade him to help me take this picture with an extra bedtime story (much more favorable than more candy). He sat for exactly two shots and then declared, "I'm ready for bed Daddy." Haha. But at least one of the two shots was usable.

A flower for her

To make her stay.

I took this the other morning when things were still. It seems hard some days when the wind is tossing these beauties about and I cannot get a good clean shot.

- www.kevin-palmer.com - After the storms passed off to the east, the anvil filled the entire sky with mammatus. A small clearing to the west allowed sunlight to shine through and illuminate the clouds. All the ingredients were there for an incredible sunset, so I went to Glendo Reservoir and waited. The colors did not disappoint.

The Bigo structure dominates the scene in the old port of Genoa, but everything is lit up at night. Genoa turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip.

This was one of our trip highlights...

A very early rise at 4 o' clock...or should I say "silly o'clock", Ron ;-), a quick cup of coffee and half an hour later we were on the road for a promising sunrise shoot. Unfortunately I forgot to fill up with petrol the day before, so I had to calculate the available range carefully. Anyway, as good preparation is always essential for landscape photography, I already had a location in mind which was just within range. When we arrived near Loch Tulla, the sun was still below the horizon, there was a beautiful mist above the loch and the sky was changing colours from violet to orange. Then when we entered the parking place, there was that majestic deer in the fields of mist. Quickly I got out of the car, set up the tripod and started to enjoy the scene... an orange sky, layers of morning mist above loch Tulla, mountains around and in front of me this beautiful animal. What a lovely dawn patrol!

Water flare messing up the shot, or not, depending on your preference - I don't mind it, as I couldn't be asked to 'Shop it out', Lol :-) HSS !

The year 2020 was not a total social desert.

Here, pre-pandemic, Abby Lauren and I only cared about looking good for the camera and enjoying each other's company.

Trading witticisms, insights, and playful criticisms - we thought it among the best of our times. In 2020 it was!
