Titsey Place manor house to be exact.. Shot in twilight, tripod used.

The house dates back to the 16th century and Titsey park is one of the largest surviving historic estates in Surrey.

Durante el puente de Todos Los Santos pasamos unos días por el Pirineo Aragones. Era visita obligada el valle de Bujaruelo. A la vuelta se puso a llover, así que hubo que armarse de chubasquero y paraguas. _A311438-42-43-47-49-Pano-ESF-1 copia

Here is what "snowy weather" amounts to in our neck of the woods (San Francisco Bay Area), a light dusting on the peaks of our mountains. But enough to evoke the spirit of the season.

May you have a blessed holiday season, and a fulfilling 2022!

(_B021812-a-14-HDR-Pano-ESF-1 copia)

In order to include the entire waterfall in the frame, without removing the railing that surrounds it, I had to take three photos in portrait format with the 7-14 mm in 7mm (equivalent to 14) and then join them in a panoramic view. (_B021812-a-14-HDR-Pano-ESF-1 copy)

Just to prove it, here's one in colour :-)

Gave the high resolution mode on the new camera a try last night. Didn't get the composition right (chopped the top off the steeple) or the shutter speed - stars are moving since this is a 8 x 8 second exposure. But it was cold - much colder than it looks - and I'd already taken a couple of shots.

Took this picture of the "Nordkette" directly from a window of my house. I'm so lucky to watch this every day, in so many variations, but rarely framed in fluffy clouds like this.

From the air, the extraordinary form of Old Sarum is unmistakable — a perfect concentric fortification set high above the Wiltshire countryside, its great earthwork rings etched clearly into the chalk landscape. This remarkable site marks the earliest settlement of Salisbury, with human occupation stretching back nearly 5,000 years. The outer ramparts, first raised in the Iron Age around 400 BC, enclosed an impressive 29 acres, later adapted and strengthened by successive Roman, Saxon, and Norman builders.

At the heart of the site lie the ruins of the Norman castle and cathedral — reminders of a time when Old Sarum was one of the most important strongholds in medieval England. William the Conqueror himself commissioned the royal castle here shortly after 1066, using it both as a fortress and an administrative centre. The cathedral, consecrated in 1092, was later abandoned when its clergy relocated to the valley below in the 13th century to found the “New Sarum” — today’s Salisbury — leaving the old hilltop citadel to fall into ruin.

Seen in evening light, the geometry of the ditches and banks is strikingly clear, emphasising how the landscape still carries the imprint of centuries of human endeavour. The chalk ridges, patchwork fields, and golden harvest tones surrounding the ancient ramparts give a sense of timeless continuity — a place where Britain’s layers of history remain visible in the very shape of the land.

Durga Puja - the ceremonial worship of the supremely radiant mother goddess, is one of the most important festivals, is celebrated every year in the month of October with much gaiety and grandeur in India and abroad, especially in Bengal, where the ten-armed goddess riding the lion and killing the Buffalo-Demon (Mahishasura) is worshiped with great passion and devotion. In Durga, the Gods bestowed their powers to co-create a beautiful goddess with ten arms, each carrying their most lethal weapon. The tableau of Durga also features her four children - Kartikeya, Ganesha, Saraswati and Lakshmi.

This aerial photograph shows the offshore wind support vessel IWS Windwalker alongside the quay, a modern example of the highly specialised ships now central to the operation of North Sea wind farms. Owned by Integrated Wind Solutions, the vessel was delivered in 2023–2024 and forms part of a new generation of Service Operation Vessels designed to remain at sea for extended periods while supporting offshore energy infrastructure.

Built by Vard in Norway, IWS Windwalker has been designed with efficiency, stability and crew comfort at its core. Its distinctive layout reflects its role. The large aft working deck carries containers, tools and equipment needed for maintenance work, while the tall tower supports a motion-compensated gangway system. This allows technicians to step safely from the vessel onto offshore wind turbines, even in challenging sea conditions.

The ship is fitted with dynamic positioning, enabling it to hold a precise position without anchoring, which is essential when working close to fixed structures. A helideck is mounted above the accommodation block, allowing for rapid crew transfers and urgent deliveries, while the bridge provides excellent visibility for manoeuvring in confined offshore environments.

In terms of capacity, vessels of this class typically operate with around 30 marine crew responsible for navigation, engineering and vessel systems. In addition, there is accommodation for up to about 90 technicians and project personnel. This means the ship can host roughly 120 people in total, functioning as a floating base where teams can live and work for several weeks at a time while maintaining offshore wind turbines.

The onboard accommodation is built to a high standard, reflecting the long periods spent offshore, and includes workspaces, communal areas and living quarters. Support equipment often includes a smaller daughter craft for transferring technicians directly to turbine structures when required.

Ships like IWS Windwalker represent a significant shift in maritime activity, reflecting the rapid expansion of offshore renewable energy. Their role is not to carry cargo in the traditional sense, but to support the ongoing operation and maintenance of wind farms located many miles out at sea. By remaining on site, they reduce transit times, improve safety and increase efficiency.

The vessel’s clean lines and bold livery reflect its advanced engineering and its role within a forward-looking sector. It is part of a growing fleet that underpins the transition to renewable energy, quietly ensuring that offshore wind turbines continue to generate electricity reliably for the grid.

Description for this whole series: I already posted most of these, but at that time I was processing them on my iPad using Photoshop Touch, and I hadn't realized that that resulted in lower resolution than the originals. So, here, I have re-processed them in Aperture and am re-uploading them at full resolution. These were taken on a beautiful sunny fall day in Chicago, on Northerly Island, with a view of the skyline between the bright red trees. The differences in sky color between some of them are the result of me playing around with a polarizing lens - some photos with it, some without (and possibly, hard to remember, a couple with it turned the wrong way).

I took this as a test of the Olympus E-M5 M2 camera’s high resolution mode. It produces a 40 megapixel photo, and the results seem to be very pleasing. Lots of detail in a very dark scene, and good noise control. This is straight out of camera, aside from a little sharpening in Lightroom.

The technique is explained here.

It was cloudy at moonrise but improved later, I stacked 120 shots to increase saturation and show the Hunter's Moon in full colors.

In Morocco there are many amazing scenes to capture. The colors are incredible, the nature is beautiful, the villages are so picturesque!

This is another small tannery where they hang the leathers to dry in the sun. I got there at dusk, when the sky became amazingly appealing and captured this shot while the tannery's operators were resting having a cup of tea after a long, hard working day.

I hope you enjoy.

Ralph Waldo Emerson. The happiest man is he who learns from nature the lesson of worship.

Lucius Annaeus Seneca: On entering a temple we assume all signs of reverence. How much more reverent then should we be before the heavenly bodies, the stars, the very nature of God!

John Muir: All the wild world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go, to highlands or lowlands, woods or plains, on the sea or land or down among the crystals of waves or high in a balloon in the sky; through all the climates, hot or cold, storms and calms, everywhere and always we are in God's eternal beauty and love. So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.
