Intimidating radiation machine found in the abandoned military hospital, Antwerp, Belgium.
Taken during my very first urbex experience - my cherry - into Antwerp's abandoned military hospital during my big "Things Fall Apart" tour of Western Europe in 2005 (after 4 years I have still not been able to find out the actual name of this hospital - driving me crazy). I got locked inside this place twice, if you can believe it. The first time in the evening as a storm was approaching, and I ended up having to wait inside an orthodox Hebrew primary school with two Polish cleaning ladies who told me (it turned out otherwise, thank god) that they (and I) were locked inside the school until 8 in the morning. The second time was the time this pic was taken. A wing of this hospital is still active, used for caring for WWII war vets, and the gate for the abandoned part is inside the gate for the active part. I just walked in both gates early in the morning of Belgium's national holiday, and returned to the inner gate a half hour later to check on it and found it closed and locked. Eventually I found a building that bordered on the parking lot of the active wing, and found the one window that wasn't barred and was openable. One of my proudest moments in life was not just bolting at that point. I turned around, went back into the depths of the complex, and finished my photos for another couple of hours. Then I bolted. :-)

Rachael Robinson Elmer (1878-1919) was an American impressionist postcard artist and book illustrator. She was artistically influenced by her art teacher, Childe Hassam. Her impeccable postcard artworks featuring different New York city scenes, became her best-known work, with “Art-lovers’ New York” as the most popular collection. Elmer illustrated with a pioneering impressionist artistic sense, the postcards are a reflection of how much she fell in love with the city from a very young age. We have digitally enhanced her magnificent postcard set and made them available to download for free under the CC0 license.

"Artbrussels" is a contemporary art fair happening every year. I was there for the 27th edition and made a little photo report.
For more information on the exhibitors and artists, visit Artbrussels' official site: www.artbrussels.be/
Every year in April, Artbrussels opens its doors and welcomes more than 30 000 professionals, collectors and art lovers from all over the world. Artbrussels is the European platform for upcoming talents in the field of contemporary art and focuses as well on strong established galleries representing a selection of their highest-quality paintings, sculptures, photography, video and installations .
Artbrussels attracts art enthusiasts, including a considerable number of art collectors, critics, journalists, curators and other decision makers; one in five visitors comes from outside Belgium. A VIP Privilege programme welcomes over 300 collectors from throughout the world, treating them to free overnight accommodation and a stimulating off-programme. Moreover, Belgium and Artbrussels itself represent a substantial number of significant art collectors. Compared to many other countries, the concentration of art collectors in Belgium is remarkable.
Artbrussels offers a strong selection of 172 galleries, nominated in accordance with a rigorous quality-based selection procedure. The international selection committee places particular emphasis on the work of young creatives in contemporary art. The fair has a most international profile, with 80% of its participants coming from over 20 countries.
The major part of the fair is dedicated to numerous established art galleries with both international profiles and programmes. In addition to the established art galleries, Artbrussels offers three attractive and specialised zones: Solo Shows - First Call - Young Talent
As I sat in Ed's Mom's garden surrounded by beautiful flowers this dandelion caught my eye. Upon close inspection it's middle looked like a sea urchin shell, I thought, and I had never noticed the texture of the actual seeds before. So, I turned away from the flowers to focus on the weed. And this, I suppose, is why most people think photographers are weird.

Henri de Toulouse–Lautrec (1864–1901), was an aristocratic alcoholic French artist known for his socially unacceptable lifestyle. He observed and documented the Parisian nightlife through his post-impressionist artworks. Sharing a similar style as other well-known French artists such as Paul Cézanne and Georges Seurat, he created memorable works of art depicting the lifestyle that he enjoyed before passing at a young age. We have digitally enhanced the gorgeous Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec artworks and they are available to download and use for free under the CC0 license.

The Highest Resolution Image of our Planet
It's been taken by Russia's latest weather satellite, the Electro-L. Elektro-L is now orbiting Earth on a geostationary orbit 36,000 kilometers above the equator. The satellite took the photos at a massive 121 megapixels. Electro-L’s images were made combining three visible light wavelengths and one infrared, according to Gizmodo. I just love to have this opportunity to showcase this picture in my blog.

Ralph Waldo Emerson. The happiest man is he who learns from nature the lesson of worship.
Lucius Annaeus Seneca: On entering a temple we assume all signs of reverence. How much more reverent then should we be before the heavenly bodies, the stars, the very nature of God!
John Muir: All the wild world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go, to highlands or lowlands, woods or plains, on the sea or land or down among the crystals of waves or high in a balloon in the sky; through all the climates, hot or cold, storms and calms, everywhere and always we are in God's eternal beauty and love. So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.
