As we were arriving at the Overseas Passenger Terminal this morning, we noticed that we may have a problem... There was a humongous ocean liner in the way! The Queen Victoria was in port so we had to deviate our plan. After a mad dash around to the Cahill Expressway, we took the elevator up and were presented with a stunning view of Circular Quay.

This was towards the end of the sunrise, with a bit of colour starting to punch through the thick, cloak of cloud cover.

It looks quite warm here, but the temperature was hovering around zero degrees all day and was quite bracing!

A severe thunderstorm builds rapidly in the early evening hours to the east of Boulder Colorado. The storm generated hail as large as 2.8 inch / 7.1 cm in diameter and high winds, which together did as much as $2 billion damage to cars and buildings in the Denver metro area. Storms with such ferocity are becoming more common, very likely associated with climate change impacts on greater capacity of the atmosphere to hold moisture and increasing instability.

After long-lasting rain the river Havel is swollen to high water. In some spots the river burst its banks. Luck for me ;)

Tagelanger Regen und die Havel führt Hochwasser. An besonders flachen Stellen tritt der Fluss über die Ufer. Schlecht für den Hafenmeister, gut für den Fotografen ;)

Good morning. Just a single posting this morning as a way to let you know I'm back after a very hectic trip to New England. While one doesn't always get to see everyone they'd like, or get to do all the things they want when away, I did get the time to persue the local dragonflies on two occasions. Unfortunately it'll be a while before I get to post any of the pictures as I need to find time to wade through hundreds of photos. Until then, and beginning tomorrow, I'll be posting a few series taken here locally in the Midwest before my trip.

I hope you all are well...and were good while I was gone. As for me, I need a few days to get my act back together and might be a bit lack when it comes to responding to comments or slow visiting. So please bear with me on that...thank you.

Almost forgot...Happy 1st Day of Summer to everyone.

Clawd: Now that you're taller, you'd better not let Clawdeen catch you wearing that old dress.. Its WAY too short now.

I'm the little blonde kid from 1973 (age 5). That summer I went with my dad on a backpacking trip to the High Sierras.

We climbed Mt. Whitney which is the highest mountain in the Continental United States (Elevation 14,505). At the time I think I was the youngest person ever to have climbed Mt. Whitney. I googled the youngest to climb Mt. Whitney the other day and saw a couple of four year old climbing twins ascended the peak last year and hold the record for the youngest now -- but I probably had it for many years without even realizing it.

I took several trips with my father growing up to the High Sierras and climbed Mt. Whitney again a few years later. We would fish the cottonwood lakes and would usually spend about a week up there at a time. I remember when the backpacking got difficult for me he'd tell me stories. Lots of stories from Uncle Remus about Brer Bear and Brer Rabbit and on one particularly difficult climb the story of the Little Engine Who Could.

I remember that year that my dad told me that if I could make it to the top of Mt. Whitney with him that he'd buy me a candy bar.
