This little fella came right up to me. Made me smile. Usually they make a fuss and fly off when you've not even seen them.

#36 of 113 of 2013, Short. This was my final shot for the 113 photos in 2013 challenge.

Higger Tor is a large rock / cliff formation in the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire, UK. The mist rolling in through the valley, the red sky, the amazing rocks and the rolling hills all set off this image for me. There are endless possibilities for composition and when the sunsets and creates a red sky like this, it's always on the back of your mind if your at the best location. For only my first visit here, i was rather happy with the choice. I'll definitley be going back again to explore some more though. www.paulclark.photography

Upper Padley

Padley Gorge

Located within a deep but narrow valley that begins near the redundant Grindleford Station building (now a popular café), and runs northwards towards the outskirts of the City of Sheffield.

The gorge (within the valley) is wooded with a fast-flowing stream, the Burbage Brook, running through it. The gorge finishes at the edge of the woodland but the valley continues up to the bridge on the Hathersage road and beyond to open moorland.

A sign marking the beginning of the City of Sheffield is just a few hundred yards from the bridge on Hathersage Road.

Foreground lightened as suggested by Ken.

A very cold and memorable February morning on Burbage Edge in some fine company, Paul Newcombe, Martin Levers and Steve Price. The temperature was 7 degrees below zero and everything was coated in a thin layer of ice, which was the product of freezing rain the night before. Whilst the Peak District is host to some extreme weather, conditions such as these are rare and fairly unique.

Over Owler Tor can be seen in the distance and the tiny blip on the horizon next to it is the gritstone outcrop, Mother Cap. Just below and to the right is Carl Wark, a rocky promontory on Hathersage moor and an iron age hill fort. The flanks of Higger Tor can just be made out to the far right of the frame.

A rainbow seen from near the Grouse Inn, Grindleford. One of many rainbows seen today.

Stormy skies just before sunset three weeks ago. This was taken between blizzards. Looks warmer than it was ;-).

The Longshaw Estate, which is made up of open moorland, woodland and farms, provides ecellent walking country, with dramatic views over the Derwent Valley. The estate is owned and managed by the National Trust.

Sunrise over Burbage Moor viewed from Higger Tor.

Second location of the day, awesome light, the fog had burned off. Last time we came here after I had climbed it i had created a whole new shade of purple for my face. This time I was only mildly red, either my fitness is improving or we found an easier way up (no comment) this was the sight that greeted us.

The snow up here was amazing, what appeared to be 5ft drifts in places, makes our 2cm here in the fens look rather pathetic.

Stumpy was stood a way away to my right, we weren't really concentrating on what one another was doing, but still managed to take identical shots, from different viewpoints! most odd.

Carl Wark is an enigmatic Iron Age Hillfort on Hathersage Moor in the Peak District, it has a defensive wall but no real evidence of ever having been inhabited. It is just inside the Yorkshire boundary with Derbyshire and is currently looked after by the City of Sheffield Estates Department. Higger Tor is another rocky outcrop just to the north.

Still flogging that great sunrise back in August.

Not the most striking sunrise I've seen on Higger Tor. Fortunately, I got a couple of blasts of light and a bit of colour at dawn to make it worth while!
