I've been trying to get a good photo from these unnamed rocks looking Higger Tor for a couple of years. It was a bit of a gamble as they're in a bit of a dip and I knew I'd lose the light early on. Then it was a run on to Carl Wark to soak up the last of the sun's rays.

Typical that after four days off, the best light comes when I'm back at work. But with the clocks moving and little traffic on the roads due to Easter, I made it out in time.

Last Sunday I managed to get out into the Peaks for the first time while it was snowy! It was such a great landscape to be in under such beutiful conditions! Unfortunately the sky remained completely grey, but it was still a great way to spend my last day before starting uni again.

Higger Tor, Looking to Carl Wark, Peak District, UK.

After a fruitless trip to Mam Tor yesterday morning, I preferred a location closer to home and easier to get to for a Sunday morning. I still set the alarm for 5.45 to make sure I got there in plenty of time.

There was an excellent inversion in Hope Valley but not much mist in Burbage Valley. But just as I was photographing the pre-dawn colours a bank of mist rolled past as the sun started to rise. What a stroke of luck. Soon after this shot the rocks glowed red with warm light before the sun rose into cloud.

I'd added a tiny bit of saturation to the image but I've now removed it an re-uploaded. Might even need the saturation reducing.

Then bumped into the Martin Levers and had a lovely chat. If you have time, please check out his work. He's been a great inspiration to me over the past couple of years.

A good view of Hathersage and the Hope Valley in autumn, from high up on Higger Tor.

From a quick visit to Higger Tor on sunday, a spur of the moment thing and two hour drive, haven't been here for over 18 months, you can tell winter is on its way

A fantastic morning on Higger Tor when it all just comes together. Albeit briefly.

At first, with the hill cloaked in low cloud, it didn't look too promising. However, the sun managed to sneak below the cloud line briefly as it cleared the horizon, then light up the mist with quite breath taking effect.

One of those morning that serves as a reminder why I love landscape photography and the places I visit so much!

This was taken atop Higger Tor looking down onto Carl Wark Fort - which was something I'd never heard of until I saw it on the OS Map (see Wikipedia's stub for more info).

You can also see in the distance Longshawe Hall, where my car was parked. Long way isn't it!

Looking at Stanage Edge from Higger tor, the heather is in full bloom.

Due to the overcast and wet weather it seems it's the season to look back on old images. This one was from a glorious summer sunrise in August 2011. Not much in the way of processing as it was shot in jpg. Just sharpening, levels and a bit of desaturation.

Happy New year everyone.

The Peak District's very own red rock. Well, tonight it was. Shortly after this the sun dipped below the cloud near the horizon and the warm light was gone.

Carl Wark, through the rain and murk, from Higger Tor.

The glorious weather over the last couple of days has meant being able to get out and about away from the city and into the the countryside.

Higger Tor is a fantastic rocky outcrop overlooking a valley and offering views in all directions.

This particular occasion offered incredible views into the distance as there was excellent visibility and no haze.

One of the earlier shots taken on Millstone Edge. I had something like this in mind, and although it was a little way before sunset, I quite liked the how the shadows were being cast over the moor.

A sprinkling of snow and blue sky was a bit of a shock early Sunday morning.

Taken about 6.30am on Higger Tor looking west across the Hope Valley towards Castleton and Mam Tor. Stanage Edge to the Right in the distance. Cant wait for that heather to turn colour. It's gonna happen soon.

Out this morning for sunup, and headed to Higger Tor. Wrong choice I reckon as low cloud obscured the sunrise completely.. I think that Curbar would have been good this morning judging by the way the light was in the distance, and seemed to be hitting the ground right over the Curbar area!

This was taken about an hour after sunrise, and I loved the strip of light over Castleton, but lighting Mam Tor and the Great Ridge
