Higger Tor or Higgar Tor is a gritstone tor in the Dark Peak, in the north of the Peak District National Park in England. It overlooks the Burbage Valley and the Iron Age hill fort of Carl Wark to the southeast.
The tor stands to the south west of Sheffield, east of the border with Derbyshire, which runs along the nearby road to Ringinglow.
A scene from the 1987 film The Princess Bride was filmed nearby at Carl Wark with Higger Tor visible in the background.
Early morning with mist in the Burbage and Derwent Valleys to the East and West of the heather-covered higher ground around Over Owler Tor.
The rocks of Shelter Stone silhouetted against this spectacular early morning sky.
Given a mild HDR effect during processing.
A panorama taken from Stony Ridge Road in Sheffield, looking towards the North and West, with Higger Tor to the right of the scene and Over Owler Tor towards the left.
After a gloomy day, we were treated to some amazing conditions in the Peak District yesterday, as the skies cleared over a snowy landscape to reveal pink-tinged high clouds and low-lying mist caused by a temperature inversion in the Derwent Valley.
A shot taken last October that never sat comfortably with me. I took another look at it today and decided to desaturate, reduce contrast and post for a reaction. Its still a little bit nuclear to my taste, but seems a shame to waste such an awesome sky and the time spent waiting for the first rays of light to hit the millstones (the whole point of the mornings shoot). Thanks for looking...
An almost monochrome scene in the Derwent Valley last weekend as the mists cleared from the low ground as the evening fell. Image taken from Higger Tor.
Another view from Higger Tor with Hathersage in the near distance and you can just about see the Hope Valley Cement works, echoing the shape of the church spire in the far distance.

Another from Thursday's sunrise. I had the place to myself and the heather's coming along nicely.
Last Sunday morning. I wasn't going to take this shot due to the sun to the left. But then I decided that, as I was there, it would be rude not to.
A view across Burbage Moor towards the iron age escarpment fort of Carl Wark and the rocky edges of Higger Tor. Most of this Peak District view actually lies within the boundaries of the City of Sheffield.
Higger Tor, Kit Kat stones, near Hathersage. This was about the only place in the Peak District that was above the fog on this morning.

I can't remember exactly where in the Peak District this is, I think it might be Higger Tor. Taken back in 2016.
Beautiful start to the day on Higger Tor. Finally got round to buying some filters. Very much a case of trial and error. They seem to attract every dust and hair particle for miles around.
