The oft taken view across Hathersage Moor from Over Owler Tor to Higger Tor.

Went to explore these crags above Burbage valley and got some gorgeous light as the sun was starting to set. Note to self... come back when the heather's out!

The geology of the Peak District amazes me. The way that silt deposits when this area was a huge river delta formed this gritstone or sandstone on top of shale and limestone underneath. We're lucky that, due to erosion, we can experience all of these rock types in a relatively small area.

I imagine this striking feature is layers of silt and the blocks have slipped down the hillside, much as the huge block is doing to the Western side of the Tor.

And the history too. With Carl Wark, a site of an iron age hill fort just visible through the mist.

Shelter Stone on Higger Tor almost glowing at sunrise.

No mist in the valleys below but a lovely bit of early sunshine on the tops of the hills the other morning.

Higger tor gets a lot of visitors, on a weekend hundreds of folk walk up from the Fox House,Upper Burbage bridge or Surprise view car parks. This only gives a taste of the area. i like to walk up from from the valley starting at Hathersage on a weekday. When you reach the 1424ft summit rocks it feels like you have climbed a proper hill.

A recent sunrise photo from Higger Tor in the Peak District.

I came across this composition while trying to get out of the wind which was very cold considering the time of year.

Eventually the sun broke and started to add some colour in the sky.

The sun just starting to light up the trees on High Lees.

I wish I'd taken more longer shots on this morning. Though a lot of landmarks were covered. It would have been a good day to use the 24-240mm. As it is, this is the longest end of the 24-105mm.

On Thursday morning, I was standing in the cold, wind and hill fog, thinking "What am I doing?"

Shortly after, the fog started to lift and the light broke through and I was happy.

Looking down the Hope Valley towards the famous (or infamous, depending on your point of view) cement works.

Taken one day before Lockdown 2.0, or was it 3.0? I'm losing count. Anyway, the view made it worth getting out of bed at 05:50.

The lack of cloud was a bit of a disappointment on Thursday so I returned to Higger Tor this morning.

I had a prime lens in the bag so I thought I might as well get a sunstar shot.

One from the archives ,I can't seem to find time to process anything at the moment and I've got hundreds to do ,higger tor peak district ,south Yorkshire

The present lack of rainfall has reduced the flow of Burbage Brook under the 17th Century packhorse bridge. Burbage Moor on the Sheffield / Derbyshire border.. The pock marks on the bridge are from bullets fired by allied soldiers on training exercises during World War 2 - the bridge and many large gritstone boulders were used for target practice.

A photo From Higger Tor featuring one of my favourite rocks in the Peak District.

hi an image captured last sunday at midnight on Higgor Tor in the Peak District ...a liitle bit of light pollution to contend with but far better than the concrete jungle of Milton Keynes where i live :):)

A blustery morning in the Peaks and I was surprised to see only 1 other car in the layby down from Higger Tor, as it's normally packed. The forecast hadn't been great, indicating an 80% chance of rain.. what was I thinking!! Inbetween clouds and some quite strong winds, there were moments of fleeting light, one of which I caught above.

I took this on a visit to Higger Tor on the morning of Christmas Eve. It was a bitterly cold morning but the light was still good when I arrived.

Two images of Over Owler Tor taken a in different conditions. The warm-toned image was taken just after sunset on a fine day and the cool-toned image was taken at sunset on a cloudy day. Both images were taken from Higger Tor but, as can be seen from the different position of elements on the horizon, from slightly different places.
