… is getting ready for the Grand Prix. La Condamine and Sainte-Dévote viewing stands are almost fully erected. Every year the same scenes are repeated: normal life is completely disrupted for weeks as the city gets ready, regular activities come to a full stop on the Grand Prix weekend – while being compensated by the Prince, no less – then everything is dismantled within a couple of days, till the next year.

Archaic Doric style, the temple of Hercules is the oldest on the site, it dates back to the end of the sixth century BC.

8 of its 38 columns were raised during the first half of the 20th century.

The temple of Heracles is located near the road, east of the park, near the entrance, right next to gate IV (porta Aurea). The identification of this temple dedicated to Heracles is given by Cicero himself, quaestor in Sicily in the year -75. In his famous accusations against Verrès, he evokes a large bronze statue of Heracles, in a temple located near the agora (lower agora, near door IV): his lips and chin were worn, he says, by dint of being touched by the pilgrims, and Verrès planned to seize it. According to Biagio Pace, it may have been dedicated to the Letoids.

The temple of Heracles is the oldest of all those near the southern wall, dating back to the early 5th century BC. It rests on a three-degree base. Its plan conforms to that of most of the temples in Sicily. Its peristyle of 6 × 15 columns is however more elongated than usual, which made it possible to spare at the ends a space equal to the width of two columns, as well in front of the pronaos as behind the opisthodome. Also missing the adyton, usual in the temples of Sicily. The architrave elements show U-shaped siding grooves, intended to pass symmetrical skidding loops.

Debris from the temple of Heracles was found scattered throughout the area, for example capitals covered with stucco, as many other elements of the temple must have been. The eight columns visible on the south side were reassembled in 1924 at the instigation of Alexander Hardcastle, while the whole of the north side was reassembled in the 19th century. A transformation in Roman times and the discovery of a statue of Asclepius in 1835 suggests a new attribution.

There's nothing quite like boiled eggs and 'soldiers' made from toast. But let's face it, smashing-in the top of the egg to gain access using a spoon is brutal, messy, and uncivilized.

But lo! I have just managed to find a nifty device from Germany: an eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher. There are several types, this being a precisely calibrated spring-loaded affair that cracks and removes the shell with the bare minimum of collateral destruction.

A device of which even the fastidious Hercule Poirot would approve!

… on Monaco Harbour. La Condamine Marina is still illuminated, but rain clouds are rushing down the slopes of Le Rocher. Part of Monte Carlo is already getting drenched. It took less than 10 minutes to reach us on the waterfront.

About an hour later, the skies are clear again.

Perspective on the façade of the wonderful Florin Court - a residential building on the eastern side of Charterhouse Square in Smithfield, London, UK.

The building is an example of 'streamline moderne', an international style of Art Deco architecture and design that emerged in the 1930s.

It was built in 1936 by Guy Morgan and Partners and features a beautiful, curved façade with projecting wings, a roof garden, setbacks on the eighth and ninth floor and a basement swimming pool.

Being fans of Agatha Christie and actor David Suchet, we visited because in the LWT television series 'Agatha Christie's Poirot', the building was used as Whitehaven Mansions, the fictional London residence of private detective Hercule Poirot.

Florin Court is an art deco residential building situated on Charterhouse Square in Smithfield, London. As for as colour goes, it's not the most attractive of buildings which is why I have gone with a strong black and white which I think compliments the composition.

Wiki - It became Whitehaven Mansions, the fictional residence of Hercule Poirot, in the 1990s filming of the TV series based on Agatha Christie's mystery stories.

I was very fortunate to have lunch yesterday at the Sharrow Bay, a luxury country house hotel overlooking the lake at Ullswater in the Lake District. After the meal we were ushered into the drawing room for coffee or tea. These four ladies had the best seats in the room - directly overlooking the lake. It had a certain atmosphere about it where you half expected Hercule Poirot to turn up...

Abell 39 (PN A66 39) is a low surface brightness planetary nebula in the constellation of Hercules. It is the 39th entry in George Abell's 1966 Abell Catalog of Planetary Nebulae (and 27th in his 1955 catalog) of 86 old planetary nebulae which either Abell or Albert George Wilson discovered before August 1955 as part of the National Geographic Society - Palomar Observatory Sky Survey. It is estimated to be about 3,800 light-years from earth and thus 2,600 light-years above the Galactic plane. It is almost perfectly spherical and also one of the largest known spheres with a radius of about 1.4 light-years.

Probably the best vantage point over the Principality of Monaco (and there are quite a few) is the one on the peak known as Tête de Chien or Testa de Can. Rising 550 m. above the sea, it perfectly dominates the horseshoe that forms Port Hercule between Monte Carlo, La Condamine and old Monaco. There is a French military base, but you can walk up from a nearby parking lot right next to it.

From up here you can see all the Principality of Monaco under you. From Fontveille to the west to Larvotto to the east. It's probably the only place on Earth where you can see a whole country from one point in the ground.

Messier 13 or M13, also designated NGC 6205 and sometimes called the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules or the Hercules Globular Cluster, is a globular cluster of several hundred thousand stars in the constellation of Hercules.

"On my way back home, I visited me own."

The visitor was unknown. Hercule's armor impersonified maybe. The warmth of the night.

This was just above my head...at the air show. I think it was a Hercule !

Two more uploads from the top of the hill, near Monaco-Ville.

This was a lovely view of the buildings in La Condamine, Monte Carlo and Carre d'Or. This hill walk seems to be within the area of La Condamine, which surrounds the Port Hercule. You can see the marquees and fences that were obscuring our ground level views.

It's 8 months today since I lost Hercule.

The grief is still overwhelming and I've found myself unable to do any photography, as Hercule was always with me.

To distract myself, I spent six months decorating my house (probably poorly ) and although I have had many falls and seizures, I've also really enjoyed it.

During this time, I have discovered a love of painting, especially acrylic pouring, so I thought, why not share my art with you all until, hopefully, I can face my camera again?

I hope you're all well. Big love to you all 💜

The port Hercule of Monaco is a natural bay located at the foot of the ancestral rock of the Princes of Monaco.

It is one of the few, if not the only port of the French Riviera in deep water.

Alliteration is the only reason for that title, along with the fact that I recently read an Agatha Christie mystery (Hercule Poirot, however, not Miss Marple).
