Resist encroachments on students' access to public spaces: Various discriminatory practices (e.g. disallow-l~ding PSR and .

Ensure the participation of GSCASH in decisions regarding security. There should be training for security guards with regard to handling cases of sexual harassment. .

Sensitisation and Information Dissemination .

The GSCASH volunteers' programme, which has been an important vehicle for sensitisation and for spreading .

information, needs to be revitalised by calling for volunteers at the beginning of every semester; handouts should be provided to all students, staff and workers with essential information including helpline numbers. The recent in-cident of a contract worker being molested point to the urgent need for such information to be made readily avail-.

able for the benefit of the entire university community; basic information (in Hindi and English, to start with) includ-.

ing essential phone numbers have to be put up in hostel messes. .

Gender workshops by the GSCASH have to be held in coordination with the Women's Studies Programme. .

Workshops for faculty, staff and for GSCASH members have to be held regularly. Such programmes should .

also address issues such as the stereotyping and discrimination faced by women from the North-east. Issues re-.

parties need to be taken up and tackled. .

Programmes regarding choice marriages, dowry, sexual harassment, gender discrimination, caste violence, ex-ploitatio_n_in workplaces and homes and alternate sexualities will have to be organised regularly. Such programmes should help-develop a comprehensive understanding of the issues involved, thus enabling the participants to locate .

campus level issues in the larger framework of social and political processes. .

Stand up for LGBT Rights: Conduct programmes to sensitise the University community about issues regarding \ sexual orientation so as to combat stereotypes and hegemonic heteronormative discourses. The struggle for LGBT rights has to go beyond tokenism. Earlier there were groups and collectives in JNU which focussed on debating.

Health and Hygiene .

Public health awareness programmes and campaigns should be held in collaboration with the University Health Centre for students and others on anaemia, calcium deficiency, sexual and reproductive health, mental .

health, contraception and abortion. Such programmes should involve the dissemination of basic information regard-.

ing public health concerns. .

Facilities to address issues regarding mental health and well-being in the campus are utterly inadequate at pre-sent. A permanent clinical psychologist whose services are available everyday has to be appointed at the Health .

Centre. .

The services of a gynaecologist should be available at the healtl1 centre full-time to address the specific healtt1 .

The lack of proper sanitation in the University, especially in the academic complex, needs to be addressed on .

I an urgent basis. Proper cleaning and maintenance of bathrooms needs to be ensured; availability of water and the \· t·l provision of soap and other essential materials has to be ensured. The administration must ensure decent work.

. .

conditions for sanitation workers; gloves and other essential things have to be provided. .

Easier access to sanitary napkins and condoms -The issues of sexual health, setfe sex and contraception ~ave to b_e addressed by t~e University by ensuring adequate mechanisms.
