These shots will be much more interesting when they have someone you know in them. Best with cyclists or cars that are only moving linearly, rather than someone, say, jogging, who is also moving up and down.

Notice the blurry convention centre in the background

I have spent almost a week on Salt Spring Island, in the Southern Gulf Islands just off the much larger, well-known Vancouver Island. Amidst artists, winemakers, coffeeshop owners and simply incredibly resourceful, talented and warm-hearted people. Sounds like a snapshot of what Canada is all about? In essence, you've got it all here on Salt Spring Island and more. I completely fell. Head over heels. And already know I'll be back here .. soon !!!

Lots of leading lines here, and a False Creek Ferry subject.

Near Revelstoke, BC with Kootenay Rockies Tourism and Destination BC

We slow the shutter speed to 1/20 and follow the moving subject like a hawk! Discreetly of course.

Same thing, but sometimes reds are even more difficult than yellows. Primary colours can challenge our digital cameras, and there is artistic license to play with things. It's up to you, but remember all the tools we have in camera!

From the Canada Place Convention Centre to the railway and the port cranes we get a glimpse at the history of Vancouver: from resource/port town into prominent world city.

We were noticing the reflections making the x shapes on the building to the left.

This is another example of my interest of combining human and natural elements.

The bright aquabus adds a splash of colour (sorry, color) :) and I've placed it in the left third of the frame

F5.6 In this shot, the subject is sharp but not much else. Factors affecting the "blur" are distance from you to the subject, distance from the subject to the background, and how zoomed you are.

I didn't take many panning shots yesterday, I would have preferred to capture his face. But you get the idea. Sharp subject and blurred background due to motion. The trick is to track the speed of the moving object EXACTLY. Dont' forget to be in continuous shutter!

This is how we achieve those misty water shots! Think waterfalls (better than water parks) :)

In this shot, note the blurry poles and person in the background. With slow shutter speeds we have to be careful because handholding can result in too unwanted blur. In this case we would need a tripod.
