At the height of autumn, the autumn leaves are beautiful, but where I live, the red color becomes even more noticeable after it gets colder.

This past week I explored a new provincial park called Height of the Rockies, one of the more remote and wild places I have been to. On the trail to Connor Lakes and back (pictured here) I ran into a huge bear, multiple grouse, snowshoe hares, ground squirrels, a pack of grey wolves stalking an elk, and zero other people. I hope there continues to be places like this in the future!

The black heron (Egretta ardesiaca), also known as the black egret, is an African heron. It is well known for its habit of using its wings to form a canopy when fishing.

The black heron is a medium-sized (42.5–66 cm in height), black-plumaged heron with black bill, lores, legs and yellow feet. In breeding plumage it grows long plumes on the crown and nape.

August 15th 1945, 2 weeks before documents were finalized, was VJ Day. Highlighting the end of around 6 years of worldwide violence and carnage. The war was over and people across the world were celebrating.

So anyone who's doing any research know there's another side to the story ofcourse. Japan was left in a near total state of ruin which led to decades long US occupation of fixed replenishing, we all knew eventually this would help Japan as a whole bounce back in great proportions but scars still remain to this day.

I tried to make this side view look like it was of this time. But I'm not that insensitive and left some pieces that ruined the immersion, such as trees that still have plantlife on them, which wouldn't have been in any photo here in '45, raised the noise as well. And frankly, there aren't a whole lot of ways to make the atomic dome look like a positive shot, so I didn't even bother trying to make that the idea.

Because I'm ultra-conservative with space, and I can't just buy new beefy memory cards everyday this is the best frame I have. I never shoot RAW, I refuse to. I need the space to keep trying new angles and be experimental with my spots.

Again: I do not condone atomic warfare, I'm just not going to say WW2 could've ended another way, and I refuse to talk against the US. I love Japan and respect the people who died that day and the ones who mourn, war is still awful, war never changes.

Alhamdulillah, cantik betul masa ni

Panorama Leipzig, the viewing platform of the MDR Tower on the 31st floor. 180° West. At a height of 120 meters, it provides a good overview of the city center.

I really don't dig heights, 3 or 4 feet from edge and no railing. A white knuckle experience to say the least :)

Once you find yourself north of the Arctic Circle, in Norway, the snow remains in the high country even in the height of summer. I took this shot while travelling inland from Skjervoy, from a sunny sheltered valley, looking towards the hills.

Lamayuru is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Lamayouro, Leh district, Ladakh, India. It is situated on the Srinagar-Leh highway 15 kilometres east of the Fotu La at a height of 3,510 metres. It is currently affiliated with the Drikung Kagyu school of Buddhism.

The Drikung history states that the Indian scholar Naropa (956-1041 CE) allegedly caused a lake which filled the valley to dry up and founded Lamayuru Monastery. The oldest surviving building at Lamayuru is a temple called Seng-ge-sgang, at the southern end of the Lamayuru rock, which is attributed to the famous builder-monk Rinchen Zangpo (958-1055 CE). Rinchen Zangpo was charged by the king of Ladakh to build 108 gompas, and certainly many gompas in Ladakh, Spiti Valley and the surrounding regions, date from his time.

The oldest gompas, those dating from Rinchen-zang-po's time — Alchi and Lamayuru, and the less accessible Wanla, Mang-gyu and Sumda — belonged at the time of their foundation to none of these Tibetan schools, whose establishment they antedate. They were at some stage taken over by the Ka-dam-pa, and when it fell into decline they were taken over again, this time mostly by the Ge-lugs-pa. The exception was Lamayuru, which was for some reason claimed by the Dri-gung-pa"

The gompa consisted originally of five buildings, and some remains of the four corner buildings can still be seen.

Lamayuru is one of the largest and oldest gompas in Ladakh, with a population of around 150 permanent monks resident. It has, in the past, housed up to 400 monks, many of which are now based in gompas in surrounding villages.

A rose is a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae. There are over three hundred species and thousands of cultivars. They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing, or trailing, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. Flowers vary in size and shape and are usually large and showy, in colours ranging from white through yellows and reds. Most species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and north-western Africa. Species, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and often are fragrant. Roses have acquired cultural significance in many societies. Rose plants range in size from compact, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach seven meters in height. Different species hybridize easily, and this has been used in the development of the wide range of garden roses. 60065

Height to 60cm.

Also known as “Evergreen Bugloss” or “Alkanet”.

Flowering from April till June.

Flowers 8mm to 10mm, blue with white centres and flowering in small clutches towards the top of the plant.

This plant grows upright and is a bristly perennial, native to Western Europe; but not native to the British Isles. It is found near buildings, along damp shady hedgerows and on roadside verges; it has difficulty growing in acidic soil.

Bombus pratorum (Linnaeus, 1761) Early Bumblebee. 13MM Queen, 10mm worker, 10mm male.

Body lengths in mm , queen 15-17, workers 10-14, male 11-13.

One of our commonest and widespread bumblebees, males are very attractively marked with abundance of yellow hairs; the workers are smaller colour versions of the queen. Once a male has left the nest he does not return, his sole aim in life is to survive the cold in the early spring months of the UK, (by sheltering under a nectar giving flower) and mate with a new queen.

Flight season… In the south... Queens can be seen from March, workers and males from April; new queens are on the wing from May so in most cases two and possibly three generations are created.

In the far north…Queens appear later, so only a single generation is possible. Bombus Pratorum can be on wing till September and sometimes into October, very rarely winter-active.

Habitat… many and variable habitats you will see this bee, although it does favour wooded areas and waste areas with plenty of brambles growing. Also, commonly found in gardens and brownfield sites.

Flowers visited… The early queen bee visits sallows and a variety of spring-flowering plants and shrubs. Queens, workers and males all visit a wide variety of prunus (flowering fruit trees and shrub blossoms) earlier in the year. Then throughout the summer months, a wide variety of summer flowers are on the menu; with brambles being one of their favourites. This is a pollen storing species.

Nesting…. B. Pratorum nests are shorter lived than other bumblebee nests, averaging just 14 weeks, with a population of up to one hundred bees. B. Pratorum will nest practically anywhere, from underground in old rodent burrows, on the surface under vegetation material. They also favour old small bird nesting boxes as well as holes in trees and roof spaces.

It's been a while since my last Flickr upload, but I'm planning to come back to where it all began. My love of photography blossomed here, and I need to kick start myself back into photography again after barely using my camera all year.

The male fallow deer is known as a buck, the female is a doe, and the young a fawn. Adult bucks are 140–160 cm (55–63 in) long, 85–95 cm (33–37 in) in shoulder height, and typically 60–100 kg (130–220 lb) in weight; does are 130–150 cm (51–59 in) long, 75–85 cm (30–33 in) in shoulder height, and 30–50 kg (66–110 lb) in weight. The largest bucks may measure 190 cm (75 in) long and weigh 150 kg (330 lb).[4] Fawns are born in spring around 30 cm (12 in) and weigh around 4.5 kg (10 lb). Their lifespan is around 12–16 years.

Much variation occurs in the coat colour of the species, with four main variants: common, menil, melanistic, and leucistic – a genuine colour variety, not albinistic.[5] The white is the lightest coloured, almost white; common and menil are darker, and melanistic is very dark, sometimes even black (easily confused with the sika deer).

Common: Chestnut coat with white mottles, it is most pronounced in summer with a much darker, unspotted coat in the winter. The light-coloured area around the tail is edged with black. The tail is light with a black stripe.

The three slender columnar poplars rise side by side into the sky. The trees impress with their straight upward striving shape. However, their growth is not natural, poplars only take on this shape if they are regularly trimmed. I was only able to show the full height of the trees by using the portrait format. However, this enabled me to photograph them very straight and without much distortion at a focal length of 42mm.

The final remnant of the Russell Court Hotel in Belfast. It opened in 1972 at the height of The Troubles - and was bombed out a month later. It reopened, but was bombed yet again in 1976, and never reopened as a hotel after that. Subsequently it had various uses, including a pub (I was there a few times as a student) and sheltered housing. But now it’s being completely demolished to make way for a new building.

Located in the Aurès, Algeria, a long canyon crosses the territory that goes from Tifelfel to M'Chouneche. Gardens of fruit trees and palm trees are cultivated along the wadi (the river), dominated by cliffs with a height of 200 m or more. The village of Ghoufi is located on the edge of the national road, on the north cliff.

Overlooking the oasis, the balconies of the Ghoufi attracted men who built there dwellings dating from four centuries. One can find a village at the turn of each balcony, with impressive three-dimensional views over the canyon. Each village is connected to a taqliath: a multi-storey building containing a number of rooms equal to the number of families used for the storage of crops and provisions. The villages clinging to cliffs are Hitesla, Idharene, Ath Mimoune, Ath Yahia, Ath Mansour and Taouriret.

The architecture is typically Berber. The materials used are polished stone joined with a local mortar, rammed earth, tree trunks and date trees.

One of the most outstanding site I ever visited.

TCWR 2011 guides the St. Paul turn through Hopkins after a day's work at CP. The SWLRT project is still underway. Excelsior Blvd is currently closed for eastbound road traffic while the LRT bridge gets touched up. Really like using this camera pole for elevation as it brings a whole new look without using a drone.

This is Middle Falls on Mt Airy Creek. I made this single from the trail about 100 feet above the creek below on river-right. This is probably the best vantage point for a view on the length of the waterfall, as it is practically a slide. There is no way to reach the base of this waterfall from this view, or for that matter, any section of the creek except for the upper and lower extremities. The ridgeline trail is a straight vertical drop to the bottom with no hand-holds. This photo accommodates and portrays the length of the waterfall but how extremely steep it is viewed from this point. I did find a possible entry point about 100 yads downstream off the trail possibly leading down to the creek side, but I wouldn't even think of it without a 100-foot rope. Even if I were able to make it to the creek below, I'm not sure how visible the waterfall would be given the geometry of it's upper height and rhododendron overgrowth. I'm still going to plan an excursion to make it down though.

A late comment: did anyone notice that there's not a thousand tourists in this picture? But it was at the height of Mardi Gras. I caught it at a good moment.

The Parish Church of All Saints

The fenland village of Moulton is located a few miles east of the market town of Spalding in south Lincolnshire.

The parish church sits in the centre of the village and has one of the finest towers and spires in the county, combined they rise to a height of 165ft.

The church was built about 1180, instigated by Prior John of nearby Spalding, the tower and spire were added some 200 years later.

The Fenlands of south-east Lincolnshire, west Norfolk and north Cambridgeshire are rich in medieval ecclesiastical architecture, because of this the area is sometimes referred to as the "Holy Land of the English".

The water's back on at the fountain in Veteran's Memorial Park, though unlike some previous years the water pressure isn't enough to give a decent height.
