The landmark of Nea Fokaia is the Byzantine tower of St. Paul, on the hill beside the port. According to tradition, it was there that Saint Paul secretly baptized Christians when visiting this place. In 1407 the land was donated to a monastery, so the tower is believed to have been built a little later.

The height of the stone tower is 17 meters. Right next to is the church of Agioi Apostoloi (Saint Apostles), built in 1868.

Sint Nicholaskerk is the most seen and at the same time overlooked church in Amsterdam as well as being one its most recent constructions, no one can miss this iconic structure upon arrival to the city walking from Centraal Station your eye is immediately drawn to it at 58 m in height it towers over the city skyline.

This Roman Catholic Church was designed by Architect Adrianus Bleijs and is a nod to the past combining elements of neo-Baroque and neo-Renaissance styles, completed in 1887 it was made a minor Basilica in 2012.

The church is dedicated to the 4th century charitable patron saint of children that became our Santa Claus as well as the patron saint of sailors and prostitutes, another winning combination.

In the Netherlands Santa Claus is known as Sinterklaas and a feast has been celebrated for over 700 years in his name and adopted in the early part of 20th century the tradition of leaving small gifts in children’s shoes was practiced on Dec 6th which has evolved now to become a Dec 5th evening tradition of gathering of family and friends to exchange gifts and laughter.

While Dutch Sinterklaas celebrations are mainly for the children its adult component is an annual grievance poem written to the recipient that must rhyme and be read out loud by the subject at the evening party all in good fun but beware you may get as good as you give.

You can take a look to the link what officially space is.

I never loved maths in school, for me the end of creativity. Everything must be valid, sure, ... . But space? Geometry? Endless possibilities that has to be filled. That can't be boring!

The Beachy Head is located to the south of England, inside Sussex Oriental's county. With 162 meters of height, he is the giant of the biggest lime of Great Britain. Our forbears were thinking that the land was squared and that tape-worm a just edge where it was ending.

If that were so, it would end right here at Beachy Head, England.

In Beachy Head there filmed Quadrophenia's end, a British movie of 1979, based on the opera rock of 1973 Quadrophenia, of the group The Who. It was Sting's cinematographic début.

Some of the best images I took at the Cathedral Gorge state Park were I positioned the cliff walls against a clearing sky just before sunset. With these images, I found that there was no sense of scale, adding mystery to the landscape. In reality, they were only about 20-30 feet in height, but with erosion patterns mimicking much larger landscapes in the southwest, they looked like massive towering structures. Nevertheless, I had some fun finding the best-looking ones and placing them against the rapidly clearing clouds.

"People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering."

At its height the theatre could seat up to 25,000. Going through Greek development and Roman renovation, there were theatrical plays, musical performances, political and religious events.

The location is most famous for being the staging ground for St. Paul to preach to Asia Minor. St. Paul was an influence that threatened the local worship of Artemis, or the Roman Diana, by denouncing idol worship. This threatened the sales of Artemis statues causing a panic that almost turned violent. Paul was forced to leave Ephesus.

Adelaida, AUSTRÀLIA 2023

The General Post Office is a colonial-era building situated on 141 King William Street on the north-west corner of King William Street and Victoria Square. It is the former General Post Office for South Australia. Postal services operated from the building between 6 May 1872 and 11 October 2019.

A 14-story hotel was built behind the historic structure, starting in 2021. It opened as the Adelaide Marriott Hotel in 2024.

History

General Post Office

The original building was constructed in the period 1867–1872, and was the most expensive building constructed to that time by the colonial government in South Australia. It was constructed from Glen Osmond and Glen Ewin stone, and ornamented with Bath limestone.

A competition was held in March 1866 for the design of the building, with the winning design submitted by Edmund Wright in collaboration with Edward Hamilton. They were at the time in practice with Edward John Woods, and Robert G. Thomas may have had a hand in the design.

Prince Alfred, The Duke of Edinburgh, was involved in laying the foundation stone, who also officially named the clock tower Victoria Tower on 1 November 1867. The capstone was put in place at a ceremony on 25 May 1870. The height of the tower was put at 154 feet (46.9 m), a little taller than the Albert Tower of the Town Hall on the other side of King William Street. The original plans had the tower somewhat taller, but R. G. Thomas was obliged to redesign it, as a cost-saving measure.

The building was extended in 1891-92.

There was also an office tower addition to the original post office in the 1920s.

Hotel

On 14 October 2019, Adelaide's GPO was relocated to the adjacent GPO Exchange tower at 10 Franklin Street. Plans were announced for the original building to have with a Westin hotel built atop it.

In April 2021, South Australian premier Steven Marshall attended a sod-turning ceremony, to mark the beginning of construction on the hotel. The hotel was estimated to cost A$200, with property developer Greaton handling the construction. Designed by local architects Baukultur, the tower, on the site of the 1920s addition, will retain the entire original GPO building, with some sections incorporated into the new hotel. Upgrades to the structure as well as additional seismic retrofit have been added, to ensure the structural integrity of both the old and new buildings. The topping out ceremony took place in October 2023, and included an Aboriginal smoking ceremony by traditional owner representatives Kuma Kaaru.

The 285-room, 14-story hotel opened as the Adelaide Marriott Hotel on 22 August 2024.

Araucaria ... is a genus of evergreen coniferous trees in the family Araucariaceae. There are 20 extant species in New Caledonia (where 14 species are endemic, see New Caledonian Araucaria), Norfolk Island, eastern Australia, New Guinea, Papua (Indonesia), Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Paraguay.

Araucaria are mainly large trees with a massive erect stem, reaching a height of 5–80 metres (16–262 ft). The horizontal, spreading branches grow in whorls and are covered with leathery or needle-like leaves. In some species, the leaves are narrow, awl-shaped and lanceolate, barely overlapping each other; in others they are broad and flat, and overlap broadly.

The trees are mostly dioecious, with male and female cones found on separate trees, ...

A rose is a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae. There are over three hundred species and thousands of cultivars. They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing, or trailing, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. Flowers vary in size and shape and are usually large and showy, in colours ranging from white through yellows and reds. Most species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and northwestern Africa. Species, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and often are fragrant. Roses have acquired cultural significance in many societies. Rose plants range in size from compact, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach seven meters in height. Different species hybridize easily, and this has been used in the development of the wide range of garden roses. 60371

This past week I explored a new provincial park called Height of the Rockies, one of the more remote and wild places I have been to. On the trail to Connor Lakes and back (pictured here) I ran into a huge bear, multiple grouse, snowshoe hares, ground squirrels, a pack of grey wolves stalking an elk, and zero other people. I hope there continues to be places like this in the future!
