Run out of the house when she heard a gunfire. “When I heard the shooting in my direction, I stopped running afraid that they will shoot me- I was easily taken. They hold only the little ones but we had to walk really far with them and we were taken to a forest. There was no food and I used to feel hungry- only milk was provided. They put us separated- I was alone. I always wanted to escape but they are always following us even when we go to the loo. I can’t even express how I felt when I saw my mother- it was a special. In the future, I want to be a teacher. My favorite subjects are English and Maths. Am still scared. I hear that this happens repeatedly, tomorrow others will be taken…” © UNICEF Ethiopia/2016/Meklit Mersha

I went to the health food store and look what I brought home.
OK, I did buy some organic this and that. But no one can live on sprouted bread alone.

September 23 marked the six-month anniversary of the signing of the federal health care reform bill, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Senator Jack Hatch and I took the opportunity to highlight the benefits of the national health care reform act for small businesses during a press conference in Des Moines. Pictured from left: I, John Hale of the Iowa Care Givers Association, CoFounding owner Alexander Grugrich, Raphael and his mother, Tanya Keith, owner of Simply Giggles, and me. Wellness is first and foremost a choice to assume responsibility for the quality of your life. It begins with a conscious decision to shape a healthy lifestyle. Wellness is a mind set, a predisposition to adopt a series of key principles in varied life areas that lead to high levels of well-being and life satisfaction.

WHO’S THE BOSS?
In the digital health revolution, the patient is supposed to be king. But in a world where this consumer doesn’t pay for much of his or her care, isn’t confident about his or her knowledge of the marketplace, and doesn’t have that much choice anyway, can he or she really be in charge? (If the answer is no, how do we change this paradigm?)

HDR panorama done in LR Classic CC. Two exposures for each of 13 shots. This one really challenged the algorithms and there were too many stitching and HDR masking errors to deal with. Still, I love the shot so I'll choose to ignore the problems.

Reliable health centre are very few especially in the rural areas. Returnees are preferring to settle in urban centres where they are assures of some basic services. This in turn leads to overcrowding and stretching of the little services available. EC/ECHO/Martin Karimi

Traditional birth attendants are women who assist mothers in delivering their babies, and have usually been trained by other traditional birth attendants (and increasingly by NGOs).
The government promotes clinic attendance for births and encourages traditional attendants to refer pregnant women to the PHUs for delivery. But the traditional attendants continue to be used quite commonly for home births.

Vitamin A deficiency
250 million pre-school children are Vitamin A deficient, and the condition is the leading cause of preventable childhood blindness worldwide, especially in low-income countries.
Vitamin A is essential for growth and development, eye health and a strong immune system.
The World Health Organization aims to eliminate Vitamin A deficiency, and food fortification is a key part of the strategy. What is Nestlé doing to help?
