Today's Issues:

One of the toughest issues in the Philippine political scene is reproductive health options. Being in a generally catholic country, the catholic church intervenes, and is a big factor, with such kinds of morality issues.

But unfortunately, we are still classified as a 3rd world country, thus, poverty and cost of living are issues that should be addressed as well.

FAVE ME means, favor me. I want the bill passed, if you're catholic (like I am) you have a choice, but choices are not protections. The best protection is loyalty.

Now, if you practice extra-marital affairs, you may be protected now by using rubber, but you wont be protected from hell.

So much has worn me down health-wise this year & I’ve felt so far from myself because of stress.

I’ve finally been able to verbalize and admit to myself that this has been the hardest year of my life since 2010 when my mother died. I knew selling a home & buying in another state would be stressful no matter what. What I don’t think I could have anticipated was a year like 2024 where we both got Covid for the first time (which had lasting impacts) and the genocide in Gaza ravaging the world. I fundamentally changed and that year left me a different person than who I have ever been. Physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Following that with a year that started with 70 days of varying degrees of headache to all encompassing migraines (leading to an MRI and medical action plans).

Then we started in earnest to do the home dance. Allowing people into my home repeatedly with no real control turned me inside out. My agoraphobia sky rocketed and everything felt impossibly hard.

From the start of the year we’ve had to face a new type of nightmare in our news, US domestic government, and life overall. Everything feels surreal most of the time.

I’ve had such a fog in my mind while I more or less had to shut entire parts of myself down and compartmentalize until I could get through other more immediate needs on my energy and time.

The stress, the uncertainty, the discomfort lead to me more or less giving up on having a human body. I rarely drank water, I stopped moving my body entirely, I spent every moment I wasn’t actively doing The Things I Had To Do™️ (or occasionally taking photos) laying down or crying. I could barely wash my face, brush my teeth, or take a shower. I know my photo stream gives one of those picture perfect storylines of how the last year has gone because I am pretty ok at composition and framing (and admittedly take good self portraits).

The reality is I’ve struggled more overall than I had ever let on.

This week I’ve been sorting photos & found some that dusted my brain off. Photos that reminded me of how even when some years like 2017 (the photos with just my torso) when I had just bought my first house with my ex and realized the relationship may not last because my sobriety hadn’t really changed anything between us. Or 2020 (the photo of me lying down in a Skeletonwitch tshirt and the 3 photo collage) the year of Covid and the year I finally ended that relationship after giving it everything I had for 3 more years while that global pandemic was happening.

Both were unimaginably difficult I was still able to lean into reflection, listening to my body and mind, and working to find the life changes I needed to be a happier and more balanced Nix. The photos feel like a talisman or a magical catalyst to remind me of my power. My routines are returning to me and I can feel the joy they bring. I am waking up.

If you’ve read this far, thank you. This is stuff I usually keep for my online blog, but I was feeling verbose and brave and wanted to share here too. I really value the connections I’ve been making being back on Flickr and the site and the people have been one of the bright spots for me through all of this.

Nyatayin two boys and two girls. One child still missing. Her occupation is farming. When she heard the gunfire, she was holding two kids (one year old daughter Nyakoch Gatdet and 6 year old son Tut Gatdet. Two of them escaped with her while two of them were taken. “If I had four hands, I would have saved all four of my children, she says. “My nine year old daughter has returned while my four year old son hasn’t. I feel sad. I have seen my husband being killed along with a dozen other men. I prayed for my children’s return- prayer was my only weapon.”

“There is no one to go to- everyone in the community is affected so nobody will see my problem as a special case. At first it was a hearsay that some children have returned. But then we were informed through the kebele officials to come and identify the children- I was praying that my children would be part of the returnee. I spotted by daughter among many children standing in a circle and I praise the lord immediately. I also thanked the government for taking action. Now am praying for my son’s return and still living in the presidential guest house for two weeks. I am scared to go back to my village just in case the rebels come back. But I know that the government is doing everything possible to secure our area and I feel relieved. I hope all my children get the proper education and support me when they grow up.” © UNICEF Ethiopia/2016/Meklit Mersha.

Denver Health is one of the regions leading trauma centers. The oldtimers, including myself still call it Denver General or DG for short. Working there is not for the weak of heart or mind. They see some of the worst possible scenarios in patient care. On a brighter note, the statue of the Native American on the horse represents the areas earlier history. The Arapahoe and Cheyenne tribes would camp and trade along the banks of Cherry Creek. There were camps along here even into the early days of Denver.

One of over 2,700 demonstrations that were held, with at least one protest in every state, and several taking place in other countries in support. This widespread participation highlighted the collective sentiment against fascism and the Trump Administration. Resist!

i made an appointment with my doctor's office in September and they gaaaavvvveeee mmmmyyyyyy vaaaaacccciiiinnnne awwwwwaaayyy.

Dude, i was incredibly pissed. Because, then they ran out and Colorado couldn't get flu vaccine until December.

So, last week when i was incredibly sick, i was in the doctor's office and asked if i could get the flu shot. They had vaccine in, but of course, i was too sick to receive it. So i begged and pleaded and got them to write my name on one and put it in the fridge and was able to come back today and get it!

My lab tests came back, and apparently i am not all well yet, but i am well enough to be done with antibiotics - calllooo callay:)

i asked the nurse if i could take a pic while she gave me my precious flu shot. It never ceases to amaze me how helpful accommodating, and interested in 365 people are when i ask them if i can take pictures!

Cover of an old 1969 Mental Health magazine from the UK I found in one of my old boxes - I used to work in mental health years ago, and these were being thrown out - they were old and out of date when I got them and now they are a curious historical record of a time before platform shoes, before disco, before Thatcher, before yuppies, before the internet - before Paxil, Zoloft and Prozac (yes there was a time before Prozac!)

Submitted by Matt from Australia:

I imagine this young boy as feeling extremely happy and carefree. We all understand the therapeutic benefits of contact with water. It feels so good to take a warm shower, or to have a dip in a cool swimming pool on a hot day. This little guy is focused in on the feeling of the water striking him, splashing around him, and washing over him. And that's probably the only thing on his mind - no troubles or anxieties at that moment!

An interesting book produced in 1922 at a time when the post-WW1 slogan "Homes for Heroes" was still valid and many schemes for the more economic construction of houses, either by size, scale or construction methodolgy were being proposed. This was also the time when many municipal authorities were first seriously involved in the provision of social or council housing. This book, with a foreword by Sir Charles Ruthen, Director-General of Housing in the Ministry of Health, has a series of articles both on types and plans of 'modern cottages' but also looks at various contemporary construction methodology including 'modern methods of building' that involved either a decree of prefabrication or the use of 'labour' and cost saving materials such as concrete blocks. and the production of concrete. Many of these methods, similar to those considered in similar post-WW2 years, where not widely adopted and properties using such novel methods often displayed defects. In many ways the 'traditional' construction methods of brick and wet trades won out.

The book also has many pages of adverts for builders and suppliers, many of which allude to the construction methods discussed in the articles. This advert is for a proprietary concrete block sold by McCreath, Taylor & Co of Glasgow - the St Mungo concrete block that allowed the formation of walls 'ready equipped' for lath and plastering thanks to an in-built clip. The blocks also formed a cavity wall when constructed. The advert mentions the use of "Winget" concrete machinery that is advertised elsewhere in the book. Various construction methods using pre-formed concrete blocks have been tried over time with varying success. In theory the construction of concrete in a workshop environment rather than on site should bring benefits in terms of production and quality - sadly, often, it was a case of cost winning out over durability. Interestingly the advert notes that these blocks have been sued in the housing schemes for the Corporation of Glasgow - I wonder which ones? Glasgow, with real housing pressures over decades, would become one of Europe's largest 'landlords' and with a massive housing construction programme over decades.

The dawn of a new day. An infusion of wholesome freshness, clean air, and good health.
