Cover of an old 1969 Mental Health magazine from the UK I found in one of my old boxes - I used to work in mental health years ago, and these were being thrown out - they were old and out of date when I got them and now they are a curious historical record of a time before platform shoes, before disco, before Thatcher, before yuppies, before the internet - before Paxil, Zoloft and Prozac (yes there was a time before Prozac!)

Today Vince talked me into taking off of work, I'm really glad he did! I really needed a day off and today was so beautiful outside!!!! I don't think i could have lasted inside. We went to the lake front to catch the sunrise and when we got there the sky was already a little high but i really love how the images turned out!

When she heard the gunfire, she was holding two kids (one year old daughter Nyakoch Gatdet and 6 year old son Tut Gatdet. Two of them escaped with her while two of them were taken. “If I had four hands, I would have saved all four of my children, she says. “My nine year old daughter has returned while my four year old son hasn’t. I feel sad. I have seen my husband being killed along with a dozen other men. I prayed for my children’s return- prayer was my only weapon.”
“There is no one to go to- everyone in the community is affected so nobody will see my problem as a special case. At first it was a hearsay that some children have returned. But then we were informed through the kebele officials to come and identify the children- I was praying that my children would be part of the returnee. I spotted by daughter among many children standing in a circle and I praise the lord immediately. I also thanked the government for taking action. Now am praying for my son’s return and still living in the presidential guest house for two weeks. I am scared to go back to my village just in case the rebels come back. But I know that the government is doing everything possible to secure our area and I feel relieved. Lost in the conversation of the digital health revolution is the focus on humans that often drive transformation in healthcare and that’s the medical doctor. We’ve seen doctors increasingly demoralized, depressed, and under pressure to meet mounting administrative loads while maintaining impeccable, patient-rated “healthgrades” online. The epidemic of burnout now affects almost two-thirds of America’s physicians according to a recent Medscape study. They’re frustrated by the payment systems and being pushed out by large health systems that imagine others doing their work and stripping them of authority. They spend less and less time with patients, and there’s giddy talk about how soon robots—already active in surgery and radiology—will do it all. Do we really want to imagine a world without doctors?

You may think twice about coming to this clinic for any treatment, except the treatment for boredom. No dull moments here! The Veterinarian is checking the Easter Rabbit to make sure he's ready to hide all the eggs, while the nursing staff check over the patient on the table. Another patient was treated and released after a severe injury to his ankle.
Today, health is more than getting treatment for a wound, injury, or other adverse medical condition. It may also instruct you to stay healthy with good eating habits, good hygiene, and proper exercise and rest.

As 14,000 Americans lose health coverage each day and health care premiums continue to grow more than three times faster than wages, President Obama has included health reform in his first federal budget. But Congress will have a major role in shaping the reform proposal and ensuring its success.

At the core of precision medicine is precision: the critical need to hit, square on, a moving target in a body chock full of moving targets. To keep the aim sound, we need more than a steady hand, we need data. Smart data, and lots of it. That imperative has driven much of the innovation—and investment—in the current digital health transformation. Entrepreneurs and corporate leaders are now championing the role of big data in everything from drug development to predictive analytics in cancer diagnosis to hospital systems management—and putting billions of dollars behind these efforts. Do the numbers add up, or is the promise of big data yet another false medical miracle?

A common problem for students studying health and social care related subjects in HE is that they can access the web on any number of devices which do not necessarily have automatic syncing of bookmarked web pages enabled. There is also a related problem of sharing, as well as discovering relevant online resources. A potential solution to these problems is a social bookmarking application such as Yahoo!'s “delicious”. Results from previous studies using this service suggest that social bookmarking shares similar features to more traditional indexing systems but also contains extra dimensions such as tags related to time. We present the initial results from a study into social bookmarking that has encouraged three groups, containing over thirty health and social care students, to utilise delicious in their everyday practice and to create a tagged repository of resources that are relevant to their courses. We will discuss the preparation of introductory materials as well as specific problems faced by health and social care students in using Web 2.0 applications. We will also present the results of analyses into the patterns of tagging and bookmarking activity that have emerged in addition to the types of tags that are being used.
