This planet seems good. One species seem to be so populous they have infiltrated every continent. They do have some rudimentary language skills but their mathematic ability is so basic they would never be considered an intelligent species. Atmosphere is very similar to ours with minimal terra and bioforming needed making it cheap to colonize.
The fingers quickly tapped the device sending a communication to corporate headquarters that they could apply to the commission to colonize earth with a high degree of probability of being approved.
Within a decade the ships started arriving. Humans objected to being colonized and threw every nuclear weapon they could scrap up. The colonizers retreated back to orbit, baffled by a species intelligent enough to create a bomb that could destroy the atmosphere and stupid enough to deploy it. The colonizers requested equipment to cleanse the atmosphere which was an extra expense. By the time they received approval and the equipment, all life forms on earth were dead except for cockroaches.
The colony shipped in fauna and flora from their original planet. It was much better really. Normally it was very difficult to get permission to make a planet exactly like home. There were groups that fought for planetary diversity but really it wasn't the colonizers' fault the original species killed themselves and almost everything else.
No one was happy about the cockroaches tho. Not even the groups for planetary diversity as cockroaches spread quickly across the galaxies once a few managed to get aboard ships. Major funding was approved to eradicate them. Nothing worked. The cockroaches kept surviving and coming back. Very irritating.

Note: I added texture and the aqua lighting on the right through Photoshop. For the texture, I used NightCafe to create an image with two planets on one layer and then used the SoftLight filter in PS at 40% opacity. The aqua lighting I brushed two circles of aqua, then Guassian Filter to spread them out, then Vivid Light filters at differing opacity for each circle.

I have just learned today (I took the photo yesterday) that our New Zealand variety is being re-classified because it's slightly different to the similar variety in the Northern Hemisphere. We have 3 varieties of Birds Nest Fungi in New Zealand.
I have been playing around with and older camera for macro.
Nikon D7100, pop-up flash through a Gary Fond diffuser, 50mm lens + 36mm extension tube + raynox 250. 1/250 second, F:13, ISO 100.
.....have recently seen how shooting at 1/180 seconds gives a more even diffusion.

Having started their day in Grand Rapids, MI, early that morning and covered all of CSX's former Pere Marquette mainline in southwestern Michigan and a brief portion in northwestern Indiana, CSX train W003 passes through Burns Harbor on the NS Chicago line headed for Barr yard in Chicago.
Having hunted for & found a solitary rock to include in the foreground, the hound decided to get in on the act.
The hills on the skyline are the Simonside Hills, a few miles south-east of Rothbury, which is where the road is headed. Tosson Hill at 440m is the highest point.

Agnes: I mean this book. I'm not entirely comfortable with attention from people beyond my core group.
Bruno: That may be the craziest thing that you've ever said. Attention from random strangers is great. They all love me.
Eva: I think the book looks great. It captures my true spirit - intelligent, beautiful and humble.
Bruno: I take excellence to that.
Eva: Don't you mean "exception to that"?
Bruno: Nope. Definitely excellence to that. I'm excellent at intelligence.
Eva: Sometimes I don't think you hear yourself.
Bruno: Sometimes I hear too much of you. And hey - who's that handsome dog sitting on that hill in the placemat?
Agnes: Dude, it's you!
Bruno: I knew that. Because he's handsome and I'm excellent at intelligence.
Eva: And also, it's a page proof from the book - not a placemat.
Bruno: I disagree. It's a placemat because anything that you put food on is a placemat. So I'm just going to sit here and stare until someone puts a big pile of cookies down on it.

This is an exciting time. For about the past year and a half I have been working on a book of dogversattions. It is now so close to done that it is starting to feel real.
There will be two versions of the book. On the table are page proofs of an interior page, the cover (partly hidden) and a 'test print' of the premium version which is landscape format and on glossy paper. This will be the version that I am getting a print run on with 1,000 copies being shipped to me later this week. I have arrangements to sell this through a couple of local book stores and the University of Saskatchewan. A portion of the UofS sales will be donated to the vet college companion fund to pay for treatments of animals in need.
Because of printing and general distribution costs of this version would be too high, we are also putting together a smaller square format non-glossy version that will be available through on-line sellers such as Amazon and be available to be stocked in physical book stores around the world.

Having jumped between Otters and Seals I thought I'd go back to Namibia images for a bit...
On the way to a well-known waterhole in Etosha National Park we stumbled across this "Cackle" of Spotted Hyenas. I really didn't think we'd see this species during our trip. Often it's the unexpected things that bring the highlights.
We have seen these this bridge many times, and it's always a wonder to me that wooden trestles are still being used (or allowed) on modern tracks, although this is only a partial trestle...
We have now had two very dry summers in a row and this year most of the little ponds dried up. However this week we had several days of torrential rain and once again those silly sticks got into trouble. Fortunatley Tiva has kept herself fit by wrestling with Tasku and she was able to leap to the rescue.
Having arrived with a couple of barriers from Chaddesden, 56081 is seen reversing into Leicester depot. The 37 nearest to camera is 37510 18/5/21.
transgender people have courage like i have never seen in any one group of people before..they face adversaty without fear and show alot of moxie in their quest to follow their dreams of being true to whom they really are in their heart..that is something that should be admired, not destroyed.
every year many transgender people are murdered , many families are left waiting for justice..
the few following examples are quite shocking.. (these are just five out of hundreds)

Erika Keels (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; 3/22/07) Erika, a 20-year-old black transgender woman, was murdered on March 22, 2007, on North Broad Street in Philadelphia. Witnesses saw an assailant eject Erika from his car and intentionally run her over four times, killing her and leaving the scene. A medical examiner’s report supports these eyewitness accounts. But police ruled Erika’s death an accident and have refused to conduct an investigation. The driver, Roland Button, was later apprehended, but he has yet to face criminal charges–including “hit and run” charges. When Ms. Keels’ friends, who are themselves trans, questioned police officials about the classification of her death as an accident, they were asked to disclose their “birth” names and told they were “trying to make something out of nothing.”

Duanna Johnson, a 40-year-old African American transgender woman. In February 2008, Duanna was picked up and arrested by Memphis, Tennessee, police officers Bridges McRae and J. Swain. She was pinned down and beaten by the two men in a Memphis police jail after she refused to respond to anti-gay and anti-transgender slurs. The assault was captured on video, which aired on several regional newscasts. In an interview given to FOX 13, Duanna spoke about her experiences. “As [Officer McRae] was calling me, he said ‘hey he-she, come over here’” Johnson told FOX 13 reporters, “I knew he couldn’t be talking to me because that’s not my name.” Duanna Johnson received national media attention this past June when she went public about the brutality she suffered at the hands of two Memphis Police Officers. She became “the public face of our community’s campaign against racism, homophobia, and transphobia” according to a statement from the Mid-South Peace and Justice Center. On Monday Nov 10, according to news reports, Duanna was shot “execution style” between Hollywood and Staten Avenue in Memphis, Tenn.[21]

Angie Zapata was a trans woman who was murdered on July 17, 2008, in Greeley, Colorado. Her death was the first ever case involving a transgender victim to be ruled a hate crime.[23] Colorado is one of only eleven states that protect transgender victims under hate crime laws in the United States. Allen Andrade, who learned eighteen-year-old Angie was transgender after meeting her and spending several days with her, beat her to death with a fire extinguisher. In his arrest affidavit, Andrade calls Zapata "it",[24] and during his trial a tape was played of a phone conversation in which he told his girl friend "gay things need to die".[25] Andrade's attorneys used a gay panic defense, implying that Andrade suddenly "snapped" when he learned Zapata was not born biologically female. On April 22, 2009, Andrade was found guilty of first degree murder, hate crimes, and car/ID theft. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.[26]

Tyra Hunter (1970 – August 7, 1995) was an African-American transsexual woman who died after being injured as a passenger in a car accident and refused medical care.[1][2] Emergency medical technicians at the scene of the accident uttered derogatory epithets and withdrew medical care after discovering that she had male genitalia, and ER staff at DC General Hospital subsequently provided dilatory and inadequate care.

Gwen Araujo of Newark, California (died October 2002), an American teenage trans woman, was killed by four men, two of whom she had been raped by, who beat and strangled her after discovering she was transsexual.[7][8][9] Two of the defendants were convicted of second-degree murder,[10] but not convicted on the requested hate crime enhancements. The other two defendants pleaded guilty or no contest to voluntary manslaughter. In at least one of the trials, a trans panic defense - an extension of the gay panic defense - was employed.[10][11]

Having 'climbed' into Bishopstone Station in the background (though you wouldn't think it) 313 215 begins the downhill stretch into Seaford. In the far distance can be seen the Southdowns and the outskirts of Newhaven.
I have no idea what this is or what I am looking at. Maybe some Kiwi on here can fill me in. It's appears man-made and was along the Ruakuri Walk Trail. Any idea, anyone? I've been told this is old housing, used in the pioneer days, but the circumference seems small for that, I know the area is a Maori burial ground. Is this some sort of shrine? Or is it simply an outcrop? I seriously would love to know more.
