you really need filters to shoot in a situation like this. but i think its worth for

At SFO. They have a point I guess.

Bay of Fires, Tasmania

One of 220 shots from this evening aimlessly trying to direct light onto my face. This was my pick of the bunch. Flash 1 fired through an opaque funky lightshade gelled blue @24mm 1/64. Camera right pointing at the right hand side of my head. Flash 2 fired through socked and skirted beauty dish on 1/32 power directly above my head pointing down. Flash 3 sat on the fridge snooted and gelled red 1/16 power @105mm missing my head completely :)

Into LR for some considerable fettling and sliding of sliders.

This is number 342 of my 365.

Another guess on metering with Sunny 16; adjusted a bit to f/11 to get a bit more of the bike. Having fun shooting without a meter.

I'm going through and organizing images from the last few months this morning. I came accross this one and remember not really liking it because of the harsh light but the more I look at it the more I think maybe that fits because the harsh conditions have contributed to the demise of the house.

As brutal and unforgiving as it is, I'm shooting in this harsh light for a reason: it's the season. Weather systems wiggle about at this time of the year; in the adjustment of their corsets and skirts they whip up incessant and unpredictable winds. Such behaviours are not photo-friendly. I could get out earlier. That might require some resolve. I think I packed that away somewhere — can't find it! If I was to wait? Well, the wind picks up, stays up and dies down after dark. Photography out here in the dark and cold has limited appeal. The "mercury" dropped to -7°C the other morning! Yes, I've wielded a camera at much lower temperatures than that. But I was in the Arctic then, and this is now.

My next "flower" to appear is this seedling greengage. I had a grafted tree which produced the most superbly sweet fruit. It fell victim to gummosis and had to go. Thieving birds would help themselves to its fruits, pop onto the raspberry trellis and drop seeds. Some germinated, and this is one planted out and grown on. It's possibly not as good as its parent. But it was there, I had the room and it was free!

There you have it: my seedling greengage in the harsh light of day.

In the harsh sun light of a Goan summer a woman from the tribal lands of Karnataka stirs up a pail of coconut shavings to pound them in a large stone mortar and pestle that she holds in the other hand.

Goa is more known for its beaches, tanned flesh, food and carnevale then for its salt. Here right next to Panjim, salt making goes on in the summer months. I guess since no tourists arrive here during that period, no one even mentions the existence of these historic mines which work on the principle of solar evaporation of the saline water that reaches up the Mandovi in the summer months.

In Goa, during the months of summer, nothing moves, not even the breeze, it is hot and sultry and almost impossible to think. The famous beaches are not happening as the water is so murky and full of churning that the currents are vicious.

The only activity that seems to occur during this hottest part of the year in Goa is the making of Salt and living life and dreaming of the monsoon to break and bring the rains.
