After departing Portola in the early afternoon, CN 2221 is seen leading a westbound oil train through the Williams Loop in the early afternoon. With no clouds to even out the light there was a very harsh contrast between light and shadows.
On a birdless, nearly cloudless day, even the sunlight turned harsh and lit everything up differently.than usual. As I sit here in the 30 degree temperatures, all I can think is I'm ready for spring.
Approaching this once pivotal industrial site, one would be forgiven for appreciating the beauty of the diffused light of sunrise, majestic mountains, the awe of the landscape at that time of morning softened by the rolling mountain mists - without realising that this scene would once of been full of unimaginable hardships and toll upon the body, lives cut short through accidents - but I can imagine that just like humanity across all of time that they too would of made the best of their situation, laughter and perseverance driving them on.
CN L512 approaches the Illinois International Port behind IC #6200, the first SD40-3 rebuilt at Woodcrest, and an EJ&E SD38-2. As you can see, since the CN bought the EJ&E in 2009, the Latin Kings have assumed control of the property.

The final shot from the trip up Sgor Mor before mounting the bikes and heading back to show how the harsh Scottish weather takes it's toll on the landscape. You have to be hard to survive up here.
At a height of 2667 feet (813 meters), Sgor Mor doesn't quite qualify as a Munro as it's 333 feet (111 meters) short, but it is a Corbett and offers some great views of the Cairngorms.
Late afternoon from the Klakkur hike near Klaksvik in the Faroe Islands. This photo was taken facing north towards a line of finger-thin islands with high central ridges. Small villages nestled into the folds of the peaks were only linked by tunneled roads in living memory.

From my trip to Tiverton last Saturday. The weather was absolutely fantastic and I spent quite some time strolling along the river. I planned on taking some longish exposures at that part of the river which cascades down a few little steps. The light was unfortunately pretty harsh (not complaining here, enjoyed getting a bit of vitamin D) so there is hardly any colour in the sky. I do however like that perspective with the tree and colourful buildings in the background with the little falls in the front.
The environment on Alcatraz Island made building maintenance a tough thing.Cool temps, high winds, and abundant moisture put a constant strain on the best of structures. When the prison was closed in 1963,the neglect caused considerable damage until the island was made part of Golden Gate Park….
We are being buried in a ton of snow and blowing winds. A big North Easter blowing snow across the lake.
I was still recovering from my bike accident on the ice, when a couple days ago I got hit by a car while on my bike. A horrifying experience that could have been much, much worse. I did hurt my neck and back but otherwise mostly shook up.
Thanks to all who take the time to comment on my photos it is greatly appreciated.

In the arid land of southwestern Wyoming, you can see over vast distances. It is a hot, dry, and harsh environment... and inhospitable for the unprepared. The landscape consists of dirt and rock... and although there is some evidences of life (sagebrush, antelope, deer, gophers, and birds), trees are scarcely seen. The clouds and hills cast sculptured shadows across the landscape. Buttes jut out of the hillsides like cathedrals. It is quiet and still... no one is within miles and miles. This arid desert land has a beauty all of its own.

Miles de gracias a la modelo, que lo de hacer sesión de fotos de doblete después de una espicha no te lo hace cualquiera (menos mal que las ojeras y la cara de cansancio nos venían bien jejej)
The rubber rabbitbrush is one of the few plants that do well if they can get a foothold in this lava field. I took this shot from an extinct volcano near Sunset Crater in Arizona. The bigger volcano in the background is called Strawberry Volcano.
I took this some years back at my favorite beach in Orange county. I have posted a few shots from this spot before.... Some of you may know, I don't give away the name of the beach to just anyone. It is an awesome spot and I have almost always walked away from there with damn good photos. I have no idea why I never edited this particular shot. But I am glad that I found it now. Hope you all like it.
Just after I took this shot, a large wave broke over these rocks and soaked me and the front of my filters and lens. I could not keep my glass from fogging up after that.
One exposure using a .9 Grad ND if I remember correctly.
