A master at work putting up a new "gårdsgård", simply an old style of fence, at Hembygdsgården. Made without modern materials, only natural ingredients..
This sort of fencing was easy to put up on location. No need to transport anything but essential handtools like axe and knife.

I love good healthy food and I love to make it. It stands to reason I'd have a lot of tools to help me in the kitchen. These are but a few in my collection.
Always handy to have a set of Allen keys!

For 'Macro Mondays' theme of 'Hand Tool'.
Not quite what you would expect as a 'Hand Tool' but 60 to 70 years ago you improvised and used what was available to do a job ! Some of us still do.
My Dad always carried a coin in his pocket on the basis that you never knew when it might come in useful. I've seen him remove stones from his car tyre with a coin and I've seen him use a coin as a screw driver.
So here you have a more common use - removing a lid from a tight tin. Those more familiar with a 'modern' film camera will have used a coin to loosen and tighten the battery cover on the base of their camera.
Lesson to be leant - always carry a coin in your purse or pocket, but perhaps not like my Grandfather who always had a half-sovereign with him!

Well, if it wasn't for the rose the kitchen strainer wouldn't be so beautiful!

The village Anidri located in the southwest of Crete, about 5 kilometers east of Paleochora, the Kandanos (or Rodovani) - Prodomi - Anidri - Paleochora route. Especially the last part of the route of Anidri to Paleochora where you have a section running very nicely by a gap. It is a very quiet area with many winding roads, green nature.

It took me forever to remove the permabond that was at the top of the eye. Whoever owned it before was using the poll as a maul, so there is some rolled edges I have to file out by hand. Other than that the eye and bit look great. This is about 5 lbs.
I had my hands gripped so tight for so long, the gloves actually stayed put. #HandTools #FlickrFriday
I recently went to visit my Mum on the east coast to spend a bit of time with her. It was the first visit since my Dad passed away. It was always a Father and Son tradition to go down to the shed to sit and talk about everything and nothing.
The Shed is a place for creativity, escape, reflection and future projects. A place where world domination can be conducted within the confines of a 6m x 8m space.
My dad was born one year after the depression and was a refugee from war torn Europe, those two things shaped his life in a way that still resonates today.
He was a firm believer that life is never to be taken for granted. always seek to improve ones life, never think that any government will look after you and God is with you weather you like it or not.. They are all attributes for survival in a harsh world.
He also believed that everything is useful "never throw anything out" 'it will come in handy one day" . Visiting his shed this time, was a strange feeling, it was like he was there... but he wasn't. just about all of his life possessions were there in the shed, even though he was gone it was comforting to be there. I took my camera and captured his shed as best as I could to preserve all these memories.

A tale from the Tin Temple.

My third carving project was a steep learning curve. I found a pattern on the internet and thought I would give it a go. It wasn’t long into it that I realised I needed more tools, really small ones. I bought some micro carving chisels including one with a 1.5mm cutting edge. This carving took a month including inception, which involved glueing two pieces of lime wood to get the shape I needed.
Racks of hand tools hang in the East Broad Top shop, many of them stamped with either EBTRR or simply "Rockhill" on the handles. With a blacksmith shop next door I have to imagine most of these tools were made by the railroad themselves.
Relief carving in Jelutong wood, In the Court of the Crimson King album cover by King Crimson. Released in 1969, the cover art was by English artist Barry Godber. Sadly he died a year after its release. He was just 24 years old.
My Keeton Kutter which I have had for almost half a century. It has two blades, one for vertical cuts in matboard and one for bevelled cuts in the window.
A second wood carving class focused on undercutting. This is meant to make the carving 'pop' from the background.
I wanted to post this yesterday, but Photoshop wouldn't work for me!!
I used Jessica Drossin's fabulous textures again - I used Handtool and Powder here. Love these textures!
