Three of these stands were made from baseboard I thought would have to be thrown out. It was the very last few inches of baseboard I had leftover from when my dad redid my bedroom back in 2008. For some reason, there were huge gouge marks all over the top of this section. I decided rather than toss it out, I'd see if I could fill in the gouges using spackle. It ended up working out quite well. You can hardly tell that there was damage to the tops of these (it's more visible on the side). I hate wasting things, some I'm glad I thought of a solution to make the last piece of baseboard functional.
Anyways, I knew for Voldemort's stand that I didn't want to do black. His entire robe is jet black, so there is no way a stand would stand out if it was painted the same color (pun intended). I went with silver because it would not blend in with his outfit, but it would go with his overall color scheme. I did get a little carried away with the glitter. I didn't have any silver glitter paint left, so I dumped a bunch of glitter into some mod podge and used that. I should have done the lettering first, but instead I painted the glitter before. At least the lettering didn't come out too lumpy. I decided to outline his name in black (to tie in his robe), but the main portion was done in purple. I chose this color because it compliments the purple around his eyes.
Hagrid's stand gave me the most trouble. I knew I wanted it to be a dark forest green with speckles. It was my take on a dragon egg. With my first attempt, I actually flicked the end of the paint brush to create the speckles. But I didn't like the way that turned out, so I had to wipe it off and start over. On my second attempt, I simply used my paint brush to create different sized dots, and a fan brush to make even smaller speckles. I was still feeling unsure of how it turned out. Colleen says it's her favorite from the bunch, so although I'm still iffy on it, I'm glad she likes it so much.
The Triwizard and plain Harry stands look alike because the dolls are more or less the same. The Harry one is made for the doll sold in the 2 pack with Voldemort. He comes in the same outfit as the Triwizard dude, but without the jacket and egg. I was very inspired by the dolls' split color tops. I tried out something similar with my Cruella doll's stand, and I really liked how it turned out. So I decided to do the same technique, but in Harry's colors for their stands. The plain Harry stand was actually originally used for another doll--my MGA Swan Princess. I decided she didn't need to be out on display anymore. I hated how her stand was painted, so even if I do decide to put her out in the future I wouldn't have wanted to use the stand she already had. Luckily, the pink paint sanded off easily (not like the primer that was on the rest of the stands in this photo). I didn't want these two Harry stands to be identical, that's why I swapped around the colors. But both are comprised of red, black, and golden yellow. To get the sharp line down the centers of the stands, I used masking tape. The lines are not quite in the middle of the bases, because I did not want to do the dowel backrests in split colors (that would not have worked out well. That's why the divide coincides with where the dowel is fitted, rather than dead center.

I'll participate in a Zakka event in Japan!
I created this hardcover journal as a custom commission for someone traveling on their bicycle from North to South America - the specs were:
Hardcover journal
moleskine strap
graph paper
map of south America on the cover
I added an awesome camouflaged secret pocket for storing important documents or extra cash.
Interestingly, when I inquired what colors they might like to have in their books they replied "it doesn't matter" - I asked, "really, no preference?" and it was revealed that the entire family is color blind and the only colors that appear true are shades of blue.
In response I avoided red and green bookcloth and chose a nice brown silk Japanese cloth - I also chose a high contrast geometric endpaper so that hopefully it will still look cool even if the colors are different from the way they appear to me.

Hello Flickr! My name is SarahHaekelfee, I'm new here. I'm totally in love with crocheting and taking photos of it! Here you can see one of my latest works.
This is the dreaded Mushroom Beast! He´s known for shooing people out of the forest when they try to pick mushrooms. He´s crazy about mushrooms. Don´t you dare to take them away from him!
Fungita was a regular mushroom, she was saved by the Mushroom Beast from an imminent end inside a basket. She was so grateful that she suddenly growed eyes and a mouth and jumped to his arms to kiss him. They´re partners in crime now.
