Japanese Halloween costumes and fun on the streets of Tokyo during the 2016 Shibuya Halloween Street Party. This year, the party is taking place over three days (Sat, Sun & Monday) and the Tokyo police are closing the streets around Shibuya Station to give people more room to enjoy Halloween. Here's Cadence sitting on a tower of pumpkins at Dollywood. I took her there to see if I could get some pictures for Halloween, but they're still in their Bluegrass and Barbecue thing and just starting to get their fall decorations out.

Halloween costumes on the street in Shibuya on Halloween night 2017. The Shibuya street party is Japan's biggest Halloween party.
Halloween Symbols - FIRE
To the Celtics, the bonfire represented the sun and was used to aid the Druid in his fight with dark powers. The term bonfire comes from the words "bone fire," literally meaning the bones of sacrificed animals, sometimes human, were piled in a field with timber and set ablaze. This practice of burning humans was stopped around 1600, and an effigy was sometimes burned instead.
Legends tell us that on this night, all the hearth fires in Ireland were extinguished, and then re-lit from the central fire of the Druids at Tlachtga, 12 miles from the royal hill of Tara.
Householders were levied a fee to relight their holy fire which burned at their altars. The extinguishing of the fires symbolized the "dark half" of the year, and the re-kindling from the Druidic fires was symbolic of the returning life hoped for, and brought about.

For Heather's Speckled Egg Halloween Hat swap. I sewed this hat by hand, and decorated it with net, lace, ribbon and one of the big bottle cap cats I've been working on. I have a new appreciation for the millinery arts -- it's very fine hand-work, for sure.
There are two sparkly felt roses at each side of the bottlecap decoration -- I am not sure how well you can see those in this picture. I am just really pleased with how this came out, and hope my partner likes it! She sent me a tremendous, wearable hat! You can see it here:

BTW, that paper in the background is some of the beautiful flocked spiderweb paper I bought while I was in California. After I left I was kind of sad I hadn't bought more, then over the weekend I found two more sheets at our local Ben Franklin craft store!
