Here, I started to sew on the middle part of the bow. I overlapped the felt piece, and brought the needle through both layers from the bottom. This is a step from my 1940s-style hair bow fascinator tutorial found on my blog. See my profile for more info!

A Spanish mantilla support comb, known as a "peineta", produced in the 19th Century.

Pieneta combs are worn as part of traditional Spanish dress. The comb is worn within a woman's hair in order to support a silk or lace veil or shawl known as a "mantilla."

The comb itself consists of a curved outer frame which supports a wire mesh, metal points protrude from the top centre and each corner of the framework in order to support a mantilla veil. The Framework itself is mounted on a seven pronged comb.

Two tortoiseshell hair combs dating from the mid to late 19th Century.

Hair combs of this style grew in popularity throughout the Victorian period. Their mass appeal was widened by the introduction of celluloid, which allowed for the imitation of more expensive tortoiseshell designs.

Each hair comb consists of a wide, curved upper band, with curved teeth beneath.
