A Spanish mantilla support comb, known as a "peineta", produced in the 19th Century.
Pieneta combs are worn as part of traditional Spanish dress. The comb is worn within a woman's hair in order to support a silk or lace veil or shawl known as a "mantilla."
The comb itself consists of a curved outer frame which supports a wire mesh, metal points protrude from the top centre and each corner of the framework in order to support a mantilla veil. The Framework itself is mounted on a seven pronged comb.
