Okay, I may have been a bit optimistic thinking I could install Yosemite using Unibeast on an old Core 2 cpu, but don't fault a geek for trying.

Everything seems to be working; Sound, WiFi, Ethernet, Sleep, Wake, Shutdown (however it took over 10 min once), Restart, Video (runs CS: GO well). USB works fine, except USB 3.0; does not seem to detect my USB 2.0 flash drives, and I don't have a 3.0 flash drive to try.

I picked up this Dell Mini 9 Netbook for $250 and followed these instructions to change its operating system from Windows to Mac OS X! Cheap and tiny and just fine for internet access, itunes and iphoto -- pretty much all I use a computer for.

Put together initially with an AMD 7750? However due to stability issues was replaced by nVidia GTS 450.

I removed the dust from the PC fans, and added some spare HDDs sitting in an IKEA box. Everything works nicely and I can enjoy some power on Mac OS X, through my "virtual" Mac Pro wannabe. I wish it was stable enough to sell my iMac.

I got up this morning to go play golf with my dad at our favorite course, Old Brockway, in King's Beach. There weren't a ton of people out yet, so we played by ourselves, and really only saw one or two other groups on the course. This was my first time playing in nearly a year since my surgeries. I went in with zero expectations, just hoping to be able to swing the club through all nine holes. Haha. I need to play with zero expectations more often!

On the first hole, my drive (with a 3-iron, not a wood) went straight down the middle, and I made it to the green on my 2nd shot (that never happens on that hole). On the 2nd hole, my drive (again with the 3-iron) went down the middle, and I made the green on my 2nd shot (again, never happens on that hole). On the 3rd hole, I landed about 20 feet away from the pin on this par 3, ending with a par. I broke out my driver for real on the 7th hole, and made pretty good contact - I was in a lay-up position after my 2nd shot, though I choked after that. The 8th hole, though...wowsers. I used my driver again, and made the best contact I've made in I don't know how long. The ball went high and straight and long, and my knee dealt with it! I was about 20 yards short of the green after the drive, resulting in a par. Same thing on the 9th hole - huge drive, and ultimately a par. Seriously - I need to play with no expectations every time. I wore my knee brace and was starting to feel it toward the end, but all in all, did well.

We came home and I started work on my nerd project for the weekend - Hackintoshing a Dell Mini9 netbook to turn it into a Mac running OS X. My mom wanted a small laptop to travel with, and since Apple has not (yet) announced a small netbook-like computer, I told her about the success people had been having with the Hackintosh method. So, we decided to give it a go. The Dell arrived while I was in NYC, so this was the first chance I had to try the experiment.

Gizmodo.com has a fabulous step-by-step tutorial on how to do this, though I had a few stumbles along the way in downloading some of the required files, configuring things correctly, and ultimately getting it to boot with OS X. But with patience, the Mac OS prevailed, and we now have a Mini9 running Mac OS X 10.5.6! Oh, and somewhere in there, I tried out riding my mountain bike for the first time in almost 2 years - it (the knee) worked! I think I need the seat a tiny bit higher, but I was able to do it!

I spent the rest of the evening sorting, labeling, and uploading pictures from the last couple of weeks.

Big, ginormous 200mm fan at the top of the case. Despite what you might think, this isn't loud - the fan is designed to be big, but turn very slowly and quietly.

There's a 120mm on the left side (back of the case) too.

Everything's wired up in this picture, but the center of the case stays surprisingly cable-free since everything's cabled through the side of the case.

The big bar going across the middle of the photo is the wall that separates the power supply chamber from the electronics chamber. In theory, the power supply draws its own fresh air from the bottom of the case via a window with a washable filter, and then exhausts hot air out of the back of the case without affecting the cooling for the electronics gear.

This is my Gateway T-6330u before the job. There were some stickers on it, so there is some residue from them. I removed it a little later with residue remover.

There is also an Apple sticker bottom right, that I used for the imprint.

The case is called a "mini", but it still isn't small. In fact, if they hadn't said mini, I would have assumed it was a standard case.

being a long time mac user i just had to see osx on a regular pc :)

Late at night I really like it being completely dark, so I found a cheap €10 used LED IKEA spot, and installed it under the shelf for some hidden lighting solution to complete darkness not allowing me to see the buttons I press on my Wireless Keyboard.

Loads and loads of IO. Me likey!

My workplace (in my bedroom). =)

The power supply is in a separate bottom part of the case to keep its heat away from the rest of your gear. Antec has a little sliding window where you can route cables up to your motherboard, and you can also route cables through the back of the case.

Notice the fan power cables dangling in the air at the top left. The fans use standard drive connections, not motherboard connections, and they're not temperature-controlled. You control them manually with a high/medium/low switch on the case.

My first computer build is complete. Added a heatsink after putting it together, a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus (affordable yet effective).

Since my last post, added the following (or waiting for these parts to come in the mail):

- Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus Heatsink/Fan

- 16GB G.Skill Ripjaw (2X8GB) 1866mhz, Cas Latency 10

- Seagate Barracuda 3TB Sata 6.0, 7200rpm 3.5" Internal HD

Not sure how much mudpluggin' it will be able to do but it seems to run most apps without missing a beat.
