I got some new seamless white background paper the other day and needed something to shoot, so I grabbed my hackintosh netbook. I was trying to achieve the perfect white background with only 1 Nikon SB600; not as easy as it looks. Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks.

Advice. You may prefer longer and less wide desks, but after all the most usable ones are the not-so-lengthy but deeeep ones.

The 146x50 cm MICKE has now been replaced by a 120x60 cm VIKA. And, yes 10cm of depth really make a difference.

This is my workspace, people!

Everyday, all day. Recently I also "stole" this stool from our living room and perfectly made it fit on that corner. The pillows added to the colorful composition of the wall.

God, the HDR feature of the iPhone 4 is awesome!

This little wall thingy has saved appreciable desk real estate.

Plus those hangers can be really useful for items that are usually lost somewhere in the room.

Forgot to get a photo of the chair along the desk.

So here it is with a sheep skin and back-supporting pillow from IKEA. Also it perfectly fits between the HELMERS! Precisely.

Finally people!

iBoot and Snow Leopard found each other and are now living in the alter ego of my HTPC.

This Mac Pro wannabe is fully functional, thank God.

So I handed down to my sister the old MICKE desk.

I got a second HELMER drawer chest, and used it with my old white one as legs for a 120cm x 60cm VIKA AMON desk surface.

About a month ago, I had seen an article somewhere in Lifehacker or so, about the easy LACK+RIBBA desk elevator thing.

So I got the LACK shelf I had, placed two RIBBA frames on the desk and aligned it on top of them. The iMac is heavy enough to keep it sturdy, but I try not to move everything around. Nothing is screw-driven, whatsoever.

I find this practical. For various reasons.

Also, you can get an idea of the backlight on the iMac and of the shelf below it.

Neat and tidy, as always :p

You could say I have some sort of OCD...

Oh, and the bed is not from IKEA, quite surprisingly!

This was my initial HELMER bought. I got a second one for a HUGE discount [€25->€9], but it was in grey. So to blend these two together, I exchanged half of the drawers.

Funky and easy.

This wall... It was too empty, so I got mirrors! And every now an then, I will get a new frame to put in the top right nail.

Over the winter my trusty 10year old iMac died. So my best friend is helping me build an epic hackintosh. Luckily she's got an engineer's mentality. It's built and all we need to do is load the OS

Small and light enough to fit into my camera bag with the DSLR and keep me online anywhere anytime... and powerful enough to do all my post processing, Flickring and uploading while I listen to music with iTunes. Yeehar, I'm in love!! :-)))

It mounts at sea, a concave wall

Down-ribbed with shine,

And pushes forward, building tall

Its steep incline.

Then from their hiding rise to sight

Black shapes on boards

Bearing before the fringe of white

It mottles towards.

I've tried to process this image on my hackintosh setup on my pc. So far, most of my image processing applications are running except some of my games. There's nothing much different on the result as I still use the same software and my default parameter settings. In terms of speed, I still prepare windows setup. I guess it's because my hardware is not fully compatible with mac.

Have a Bless Sunday Everyone!

Shard London Bridge, previously known as London Bridge Tower, and also known as the Shard of Glass, 32 London Bridge and The Shard, is a skyscraper under construction in Southwark, London. When completed in 2012, it will be the tallest building in the European Union.

This shot is taken from Temple Gardens in the City of London one of the oldest parts of London. A nice contrast of old and new and a commentary on the changing skyline and character of London.

All Ikea DIY Shared Workspace, using a $99 Ikea countertop and a pair of legs. easy!

My wife and I get to work from home from time to time and when we do projects together, this is where the magic happens!

I have a large corner desk from www.workspaces.com in a spare bedroom in my apartment. The computer is a custom-built "Hackintosh" used for video production, photo editing, and IT administration. It's also the multimedia hub of my apartment, acting as a HTPC by feeding digital audio and video into my living room home theater and serving up an awesome media center called Plex.

My workspace back in late 2009:

After moving from the 17" and 22" to dual 22" in May 2010 and then adding the 17" back in for triple displays in October, I've finally made the jump to three 22" LCDs. The left and right panel are Acer P221Ws and the middle is an Acer AL2216W. Color is surprisingly consistent between them, the middle has just a slightly bluish tint which I can remove through callibration.

I've of course upgraded the Hackintosh that runs them as well. I've still got the Intel E6300 overclocked to 3.05GHz, but not much else is the same. In order to get dual graphics cards working with EFI injection I needed a new motherboard with dual PCIe slots, so I went with the Gigabyte GA-EP45T-USB3P with 4GB of DDR3. As far as graphics cards go, I have a 9600GT driving the middle and right panels and a 7600GT driving the left panel. The system's running 10.6.4, which I'm scared to update to 10.6.6 at risk of breaking my dual-card setup.

Other differences from the 2009 setup:

>New desk. I built this from scratch last May after getting my second 22" and realizing that I had no room left on my 4'x2' desk.

>No more laptop on my desk. Now that my desktop is a far superior machine, I keep the MacBook Pro on the dresser by my bed for late-night surfing and whatnot.

>Only one computer at my desk. I got tired of dealing with multiple machines, so I put all my resources into making the Hackintosh the best system possible, and now it does all I ask it to.

>Projector's gone. The configuration of my room doesn't really make sense for projecting. It lives in my basement now.

Oh, and the lighting. The lights behind the monitors are $6 Lowe's uplight cans with 25 watt clear globe bulbs and the light under the desk is ropelight I attached with hooks. All 3 are hooked together to an X10 module for easy on/off and dimming.

Daytime pictures will come tomorrow. I just got the 22" LCD this evening.

By the way, I'm 16 and a Junior in high school.

Aug. 2011 Update: The Hackintosh has been upgraded to an Intel Q6600 OCd to 2.61GHz, and I'm 17 now and soon to be a Senior.

Sept. 2011 Update: Hacky now has 8GB of DDR3 1333 and is OCd to 2.79GHz. Now booting of a 2x80GB RAID0 array with ~250MB/sec max read speeds. Replaced the remaining 7xxx series video card with a second 9600GT, dual cards still work perfectly, and I can now try and update to Lion since I no longer have 7xxx series cards. (On another drive of course. Never muck up a working OS X install on a Hack!)

In the next few weeks I will be gutting a defective G5 (different from the one in the photo, my mother uses that one now) and modding it to accomodate all my Hackintosh components. I will be posting a new photo once the HackinG5 is done. I am _very_ excited for the parts to come so I can build it.

Update: "PowerHac G5" is built. Pic of the internals:

Moving some things on the desk around this weekend and I'll have an updated workspace pic to post sometime next week.

I've installed a Home Automation System in my apartment consisting of GE Z-Wave Wireless dimmers, a Vera Z-Wave Controller, an attached USB-UIRT to transmit IR to my TV/Receiver, and SQ Remote running on my iPad to let me control it all.

With this setup, I can turn on my TV/Receiver, Fire up Plex on my Office/HTPC, play a movie, dim the lights and control the volume.

A DIY so simple, but also so useful.

It took only two minutes and three pieces of IKEA cheap materials

A LACK shelf, and two rectangular RIBBA photo frames.

I used the shelf with the metal support on the back to make it sturdier, even though it is not attached to the wall of the desk surface. It simply lays on the frames, that simply lay on the desk. No screw-drivers no nothing!

iMac, Genius speaker set, Magic Trackpad, Apple Qireless Keyboard, iPad 2. What else could I ask for?

Got to briefly meet Steve Wozniak as he was doing some press for Dancing with the Stars. I showed him my Dell Mini 9 with OS X Leopard installed on it (and an Apple sticker sloppily applied over the Dell logo.

He said, "Oh my god, that is so COOL!"

And: "Is that really the color you wanted?"

Then he graciously signed it. I then ran away and giggled for about 45 minutes.

This cabinet features my network hub: A cable modem, wireless router, and home automation controller.

I cut the 1.20 x 0.60 VIKA AMON to 1.10 x 0.60 to fit the wall space, and have no regrets over that decision. I don't miss any of the area suntracted after cutting the desk, since I am using the extra shelf as a monitor stand and can hide the keyboard under it.

It was slightly more of a pain than I'd originally expected, but big ups to Blam for loaning the USB bootloader and helping me skip steps 1-whatever.

I have a large corner desk from workspaces.com in a spare bedroom in my apartment. It's the multimedia hub of my apartment, featuring a custom-built "Hackintosh" that feeds two displays in the office as well as mirrors the primary display to my living room home theatre.

The desk I'm used to: www.flickr.com/photos/42736403@N08/7082176541/in/set-7215...

I had no desire to move from my triple-display ass-kicking desktop Hackintosh to a laptop just because I was going to college, so the desktop came with me. I had to sacrifice one monitor and my giant HP color LaserJet, but that's it. I'm making do just fine with two 22-inchers.

For audio, I left the Edirol micro-monitors at home in favor of a stereo. I eBayed a 1981 Yamaha R-300 for about $90 and combined it with some Yamaha bookshelf speakers and a Pioneer sub I picked up at Goodwill to make one epic dorm room stereo.

Notice the little AirPort Express under my stereo? Yeah, that's technically not allowed here. We're not allowed to have any wireless access points, or routers. But I'm being low-key about it, I have the Tx power at 50% and the channel set as to not interfere with the res hall network. I have it acting as an access point tied into my desktop via a second Ethernet card. I use Internet Connection Sharing in Mac OS to provide the connection.

Oh, and the current specs on my PowerHac i5:
