A picturesque tall white-harled house on the north side of the junction between Back Causeway and The Cross in Culross (W FIfe), The Study dates from c.1610. This is said to be where Bishop Leighton of Dunblane (1611-84), who lived nearby in Bishop Leighton's House, composed his sermons. Built as a merchant's house, next to Culross Palace one of the finest in Culross, the building was acquired by the National Trust for Scotland in the 1930s. It was renovated by Ian G. Lindsay and Partners in 1959, winning a Civic Trust Award in 1962. The Study is now A-listed and is open to the public for guided tours.

The building is L-plan and comprises a three-storey main block, with a tower facing the street which rises higher. This contains a turnpike stair, with the upper stage corbelled out and containing the actual study. The orange pantiled roofs feature crow-stepped gables and catslide dormers. The windows to the front feature lattice leadwork and wooden shutters below, allowing the windows to open. Inside there are original fireplaces and timber panelling, while the beamed ceiling of the first-floor room is a reconstruction of the 1960s, brightly painted with fruit and flowers in homage to its 17th century forerunner.

Avocette élégante - Elegant Avocet by Jogabi - Michèle

61 328

Source : www.oiseaux.net/oiseaux/avocette.elegante.html

Taille : 45 cm

Envergure : 77 à 80 cm.

Poids : 250 à 400 g

Longévité: 25 ans

--

The elegant avocet lives in a large part of Europe, its territory continues in the west and the center of Asia to the south-east of Siberia as well as to Manchuria, in the northeast from China.

It consumes mainly aquatic insects, worms and small crustaceans living in brackish water. The avocet searches for food in the water with its curved, very sensitive beak. His method is original: it opens the beak and scums the water surface. For this, it maneuvers the beak in a back and forth side while filtering food. The avocet may also tip over like a duck to forage in deeper water. Until his bill is clearly rolled up, the young is content to peck.

The species is threatened mainly by the destruction of feeding, nesting and overwintering habitats due to the drying up and transformation of brackish lagoons and salt marshes, disturbance of nesting sites and poaching.

Wetlands are deteriorated by the use of insecticides; Fortunately this species is able to adapt to habitats that have suffered a reasonable drop in quality. As 90% of European migrants are concentrated in less than 10 sites, effective protection of these places is absolutely essential.

Size: 45 cm

Wingspan: 77 to 80 cm.

Weight: 250 to 400 g

Longevity: 25 years

Preparing the next attack by Richard De Grataine

78 27

Chapter VII: The Preparations

The style card and credits here

Nagato consulted his tablet for the latest instructions. The orders were clear: the next target was Fermilab, near Chicago. However, a persistent doubt gnawed at him. He had been infiltrated for several years in the 11th and 12th centuries, an arduous and lonely task that had cost him much of his personal life. Although the purer air and freedom to move without restrictions on Earth's surface offered some respite, he constantly longed for his real family and a special person he hoped to share his life with. The message he had just received reminded him of the danger of his mission; he had almost lost his life in the last incursion. This near-death experience increased his doubts about whether he was on the right side and the true purpose of his missions.

As he prepared in his hideout, Nagato reviewed the plan meticulously. He needed to infiltrate Fermilab, locate the core of the particle accelerator, and destabilize it without being detected. While preparing his equipment, his thoughts grew darker, remembering moments with his family and the person he left behind. Determined not to fail, he checked his tools one last time. With a mix of determination and doubt, he set off for Fermilab, questions about his loyalty and mission purpose weighing heavily on his mind. Despite the uncertainties, he was ready to face the challenges ahead, protect those he loved, and discover the truth.
