How often does one see such naturally gorgeous auburn hair?

Over the years, I have asked a few farmers from Brazil, along with importers and exporters, about how coffee is processed here, but until this visit I did not understand the exact methods of the processing.

The first thing I learned is that every farm is different in how they process. The second thing I learned is that, although different, many farms call what they do by the same name.

To give a better understanding I will try to break it down:

The Natural process. Overall, many farms do natural processing (especially in the Cerrado), but it is not like the natural process we find in Ethiopia. Here most of it is tree dried. (I only saw one Microlot that was picked ripe and then dried in the sun.)

Pulp Natural is also very confusing here. The reason being that many farms also have a demucilage machine, which can take off a certain percentage of the coffee fruit after pulping. The percentage of mucilage is dependent upon how the machine is calibrated. Some farmers take off 0% and others take off 100% percent. It all depends on the farm. Most places I visited took off quite a bit. You can tell by looking that the parchment color as it is being dried. The more yellow and rustic, the more mucilage that was left on.

Washed coffees are not very common, but a coffee that has been demucilaged at 80% or higher—in my mind—will taste more like a washed coffee than a Pulp Natural. I saw one farm that actually had fermentation tanks that did an odd blend of Pulp Natural and Washed processing.

Over here is a recap and my short notes:

Natural: tree dried = very common

Natural: picked ripe and then dried = not common

Pulp Natural: 100% of mucilage left on and dried on patio = not common, hard to produce.

Pulp Natural Demucilaged: anywhere from 10-90% of mucilage is taken off and then dried on patio = very common process, but both very good and poor quality can be processed this way.

Demulicaged: 100% of mucilage taken off = not common

Washed process: Coffee is pulped, fermented, and then dried = Not common.

A good note to all of this is each farm also changes their focus for processing day by day. For instance, if a lot of ripe cherry is harvested (like you would find early in the harvest season) then a lot of farms choose to make that a Pulp Natural. A lot of tree dried cherry generally means it is later in the harvest and that of course will be a natural.

I told you it was confusing.

Before someone gets their knickers in a twist, my last shot was taken no closer to Switzerland than my dining room table.

If you look at the EXIF data, you'll see that it's a 25 second exposure at f/22 and ISO 100 with a Tamron 90mm macro lens.

I only got the idea for the Alps while I was fiddling around with the shot on my computer.

I've given up counting how many times I fall in love every week at the rescue centre! Little Rooney is just 7 months old. The poor little guy was signed over because his owner was having a baby and Rooney kept climbing into the cot. He's extremely affectionate and very playful ... in fact, everything you could possibly wish for in a kitten. He was reserved instantly, of course, and will soon be leaving the centre to live with his new family.

In my quest to make "things happen" I think nothing of trying to do what is depicted in the above image and "I'm pretty good at...." achieving it. What a coincidence as that happens to be the theme for this week's Me Again Monday group!! Yeah, I know, a pretty lame attempt at humour!!

On the more serious side, when working on the delivery of a "project", my pedantic trait does often upset people along the way but, if I do say so myself, the ultimate outcomes more often than not, please many more.

For anyone who has ever tried to find out their personality type, you will be unsurprised to learn that I am an ESTJ.......mostly. For those interested to check out their type here's one site to do it for free: www.16personalities.com/

I know it looks cruel but ... thats how you feel sometimes ...

This image may turn out to be my personal favorite from the trip.

This woman lay sleeping on a bench in the park behind The Notre Dame Cathedral. Clearly homeless, she lay there midday, while certainly hundreds of people walk around her, comment, some even laugh.

While she, in no way, can be classified as "beautiful" in normal societal terms, I found her intriguing and "beautiful" in the most artistic way.

What does she dream? Does she have goals? Does she want to rise from her plight? Or, in her eyes, is it a "plight" at all?

"Why" does she live? What is it all for? Is she sustained by the natural survivor instinct or does she sustain herself on the memories of a prior time?

As she lay there, I chose to capture a moment. She breathed out, I gently pressed the shutter on my Canon 5D once, adjusted the image, zoomed in a bit more and then captured this. She did not even stir.

She just laid there...beautiful in her own unique and artistic way.

Painting the lorikeets from life - they don't stay still very long :) This is my first attempt, and I'll continue, and see how it goes.

Is your child outdoorsy by nature and a sports fanatic too? Then packing him off to any ordinary camp just won't do. To ensure that your kids learn and draw maximum fun out of their great camp experience, it's important that you choose your child's sports camp with care. Considering the dizzying array of sports camp programs out there, finding that one right sports camp that suits your child's need and talents can be difficult. cms.campnavigator.com/2-campers-corner/557-how-to-pick-th...

I really loved how these branches were shaped and they seemed so musical...with the bokeh magical...like little moons dancing in the night! Hence the name and reminder of Beethoven's ~~~ Moonlight Sonata ~~~ ; Hope you all like it as much as I do!

This presentation is based on a forthcoming IMF Working Paper that will be published in October 2017. Most studies measure economic success by studying convergence in income– i.e., GDP per capita. By that measure, Asian countries, led by China and other dynamic economies, have been successful in bridging gaps in per capita incomes in recent decades. But it is well known that GDP per capita does not fully capture economic welfare (Tobin and Nordhaus, 1972). This study updates Jones and Klenow (2016) who use a micro-founded index of economic welfare—which includes consumption, leisure, life expectancy, and inequality—to look at economic progress in a broad sample of countries between 2007 and 2014. The results demonstrate that welfare grew more quickly than income for most countries over the period. However, for some populous middle-income Asian countries in which GDP per capita grew very quickly, welfare lagged. We then add environmental factors to the index, including greenhouse gas emissions and a measure of sustainability, to illustrate how important the use of the natural environment is for welfare in certain countries.

In this attempt, I pointed the crutch toward the sky, and a conveniently placed cloud.

I also tried some shots with one of my wife's unique canes. Looking at them this morning, it strikes me that it's a little too unique; the viewer might not know what it is. So, I'm sticking with the more-familiar crutch.

HISTORY:

Currently unavailable.

In the meantime, here's how you can access this obscure little gem.

DIRECTIONS:

Approaching from Stocksbridge, turn right off the Stocksbridge bypass into the driveway leading to the Equi-Trek works plant. Turn left after approximately 25 yards onto a narrow path amongst the trees. This the route of the trackbed and is pretty much indicated by the lower embankment slightly further along. The railway route follows for 2 miles north very closely alongside the bypass at all times.

For midway access to the railway path, remain on the bypass and take the right turn onto Mortimer Road at Midhopestones. Pass under the railway bridge and then turn left upwards onto the track bed and continue on the right or left.

The trackbed is very muddy in places although at one point a trail of wooden pallets have been left arranged to step across. The old line pass through a farm before following a hardened embankment and into a cutting and through a short tunnel beneath the bypass. The pathway then emerges up a steep ramp alongside a treatment works plant near Langsett, from here the main road can be rejoined.
