This plant is now being promoted and marketed under the name English name 'Hawaiian Palm' in English and Dutch [in the Netherlands using English in product names makes marketers feel clever]), 'Palmier hawaïen' in French, and 'Hawaii-Palme' in German. Initially, it was marketed as 'Vulcan Palm'.
The West Maui Mountains or West Maui Volcano, known to the Hawaiians as Maui Komohana and to geologists as Mauna Kahalawai, forms a much eroded shield volcano that constitutes the western one-quarter of the Hawaiian Island of Maui.
The three moku or districts of west Maui are Lāhaina, Kāʻanapali, and Wailuku. Wailuku is also known as Pūʻalikomohana, or Nā Wai ʻEhā which means the four waters. The 4 waters are the ahupuaʻa (smaller land division than district), which are Waikapū, Wailuku, Waiʻehu, and Waiheʻe.
The port of Lāhainā lies on the southwestern slope.
The summit peak is called Puʻu Kukui, at 5,788 feet (1,764 m) elevation.

Taken in the Cemetery at Painted Church (St Benedict Catholic Church), Captain Hook, Big Island, Hawaii. The Church is aptly named for the lovely painted interior- well worth a visit. Located on the Southwestern shore of the Big Island.

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Over forty Alaska military personnel pose here June 14, 2013, for a fun, group shot on their way back from Tropic Care 2013. Forty-five Alaska military personnel from Air and Army National Guard and active-duty Air Force set up and ran medical clinics for medically-underserved Hawaiians on the islands of Lanai and Maui as part of an Innovative Readiness Training project June 4 to 12. The group joined about 500 other military personnel from multiple components of the Air Force, Army and Navy on four Hawaiian Islands at six sites as a joint training mission called TROPIC CARE 2013 – the largest IRT mission since the program began.
