It's a tough world starting out in music world, no sellout concerts, no number ones, no awards, not even a band, just you & the guitar, strumming on a city street, hoping some coins flipping your way.
I brought this photo forward today, for the day that was in it, a sad day in music world, the death of S Club 7 star Paul Cattermole who died at the age of 46.
In a world of sugar pop of the 90's, its wasn't all glamour & riches.
Rest in peace Paul Cattermole.
Music is an important part of the Cuban culture. Here an older gentlemen was giving lessons to an adolescent. Who knows if this was staged or not, but they weren't paying any attention to our group and the scene seemed genuine. This was taken in Jaimanitas, a recovering and artistic area. Looking back and reflecting on some pictures/snapshots I think about my guitar classes. I remember passing the beginner course, but not the intermediate level.
Since I did not continue I tend to consider the experience a flop. But really reflecting I remember that I was typically caffeinated as a way to start the day. And being judged by a guitar aficionado, whom I admire.
The secret really is to practice-practice-practice, but who really has time to sit and read music when there are custom espressos?
Lately, I've been listening to guitar music. Though I did not excel at reading music, I realize that I can correlate the note with the string position, just can't identify the note. So it wasn't a total flop. Just a lack of focus. Moderation is key.
Is my child too young for music lessons?
Some children demonstrate a love of melody and rhythm from a very early age. It can be tempting to run out and sign them up for lessons, but how young is *too* young?
The youngest age we recommend for private lessons is 4 years old. It may seem early, but listen to this: In a study of preschoolers, children who took weekly piano lessons showed a 34% improvement in spatial skills than the children who did not take lessons. Starting music at a preschool age can give your child huge developmental benefits.
If they're less than four years old, a group class may be a great option. Parent/child participation in a group setting can establish a lifelong love of music.

Music Box - New Westminster's Music School
We created a brand new animated ident and logo for Bath Guitar School. Richard wanted to update his branding for 2011 and had created an evolution of his logo, based on a Coat of Arms style design. We worked with this idea to create a new logo (featured in the ident) and an animation to kick off his online videos on the Bath Guitar School YouTube channel.
The logo is now being used across the BGS 2011 marketing materials and the ident has just been rolled out onto the latest videos.
