Everyone struggled with inner demons and conflicts. It was a natural part of life and Jorgia Prynce was not exempt. Since she was young, she’d always struggled with doing the right thing. Rules were sometimes meant for others. Laws were a often loose guideline for what you could do, but nothing serious. You could stray from authority, so long as you were doing something good… right?

“Who’s idea of protecting people is this?!”

Jorgia could still hear the woman's shrill voice as she cried out and went down. Unspeakable crimes her husband called it. She supposed that was exactly what this was. His word held less weight for Jorgia as she knew he was under the effects of a powerful love spell, inflicted on him by the woman he called a wife. Had he know the truth behind his ‘darling wife’ and the cursed child they had produced, he’d have run for his life and rightfully so. The woman's wand fired green streaks of deadly magic at the group sent to handle the situation. With one of them already down, the rest began their real work. Exterminate one foretold to rival the evil of history’s darkest Wizards. The Unspeakable Auror’s Department was a new section of the DLME… Unofficially at least. Officially? The department didn’t exist. The Ministry couldn’t publicly admit to having a secret group of Aurors and public officials who ‘stopped catestropy by any means necessary’. Of course they didn’t take this work lightly and all cases had to be investigated through the use of time-turners and alteration theory (different choices produce different outcomes), but when all paths lead to genocide, muggle or wixen, action had to be taken.

Now she stood in front of a mirror, her body covered in scrapes and bruises from the fight but her mind equally marked from the ordeal. Her chest rose and fell slowly while she stared into her own eyes, digging through her memories and reliving them. She didn’t bother focusing on what she saw… she’d relive that for the rest of her life. Instead Jorgia focused on what she felt during the whole thing. Fear. Anger. Frustration. But deep down, she could sense it. Clear as day, even behind the subconscious ignorance of it. Adrenaline. Excitement. An eagerness. She liked it. She liked it much more than she wanted to admit. As she let her thoughts race, a voice she hadn’t heard in over a year crawled into the back of her mind and chuckled menacingly.

“It’s in your blood, Jorgia Lagorio. You were born for this. Now make your father proud.”

Macro Mondays theme : Cutter

A cookie cutter is a tool used to cut cookie dough in a particular shape. The word by itself was quite self explanatory. 😊

These two cookie cutters are small enough to fit within the 3” guideline. One is a star and the other a snowflake.

A light snow at night is sometimes quite a peaceful and enjoyable experience.

However, when the wind kicks in, it’s a different story!

Thank you everyone for your visits, faves, and kind comments

Pliers.

The advantage of inheriting the tool collections of at least three people is that you find some interesting oddities. The disadvantage, of course, is that you end up with an awful lot of tools that you are destined to keep “just in case”.

At least I have found a use for this one! It’s is a miniature pair of pliers. It was definitely my father’s and perhaps my grandfather's before.

To suggest a story, and to add scale and contrast I thought I would try setting it within the carnivorous maw of an ordinary pair.

This is for the Macro Monday group’s theme this week hand tool, suitably cropped for the group’s three-inch guideline.

Thank you for taking time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Macro Mondays :)

A bit of tweaking with selected colours to reduce card detail.

Macro Mondays theme : Sweet or Savoury

I wish you could smell those strawberry macarons! I guess you would have been just like me, fighting this irresistible temptation to eat your props! Apparently, my husband didn’t have the same willpower and the macarons mysteriously disappeared once my shooting session was over. Oh well, that was reason number 2 why we bought them after all.

For my photo, I arranged two macarons in a mini saucer bowl and framed them within the 3” guideline.

I still have a few left if you care to join me for an afternoon tea with some strawberry macarons! 😊

Hopefully, my picture respects Macro Mondays' guideline now... Happy Macro Monday everybody

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Moon represents a disturbing figure, eternal and ephemeral at the same time, captivating, where light and darkness debate in a constant dance, giving mystery to its reliefs and shapes.

Starting a day of photography and observation of the Moon is a ritual worthy of a method: find a quiet and dark place, level the telescope mount and balance the whole, arrange the cables that will make everything mechanical magically become electronic and digital, put the mount in station, turn on the notebook and start the software that, with our guideline, will do the magic.

On the night of the first day of June, the Moon rose after sunset showing its pristine clothing, inspiring and inviting us to spy on its details with a camera and an eyepiece. So, with the witness stars, I began the long process of capturing pieces of the Moon that could later be joined to form the entire disk.

I felt restless, careful, cautious, impatient, millimetric, mathematical, almost irritated. Imagining fragments, taking care that there are no missing pieces of the puzzle, concentrating on not making mistakes, I remembered a phrase that I read one rainy afternoon:

"Don't even try to talk to me when I'm looking at the moon." (Wendelin Van Draanen)

I recorded 22 videos of about 1500 frames of which I stacked and processed between 15% and 20% of the best ones. In the end, I needed 18 frames to make the full Moon.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moonlight spilled over the leaves of a palm tree; a slight breeze stirred them and the filaments randomly distributed the silver sparkles.

A persistent dew began to bathe the night and the yellow eyes of the black cat disturbed the attentive and dazed owl. A new methodical action awaited me: put away all my equipment. The session had ended.

Now that I see the result in this modest image, I think that perhaps the Moon could have lit up and surrounded by flames, like those mysterious objects that wizards and elves carry in the magical scenes of a fantastic work.

My Moon made of fragments is the same Moon from all corners, from all continents, from all coasts and all seas. The Moon of always, of any time. The Moon of the Earth, the Moon of men.

The Smile on Saturday group’s theme is “multicolor bubble bokeh”. I think I figured out how to do that with a phone’s camera!! Had to focus on something up close to achieve it. Was that ok? How did I do, Maria Godfrida? Too much ribbon, not enough bokeh?

Am going to put another bokeh picture up but it was taken earlier this month, so it doesn’t fit that guideline

Macro Mondays theme : "Patterns in Nature"

Flowers exhibit some of the nicest patterns found in nature. The Zinnia featured in my photo is one good example. The petals follow a specific pattern for this variety of flowers. And the palette of colors is simply gorgeous. Of course, the flower I chose falls within the 3” guideline.

Macro Mondays theme : Hard Light

According to Wikipedia the “Red Planet”, also know as Mars, is 6780 km in diameter. I don’t know if Janet would approve my picture if it was the real thing! I think I would be in trouble with the 3” guideline… 😉

Actually, the red marble I used is of a more reasonable size, measuring an outstanding 0.000016 km in diameter (or 5/8” if you prefer). Still too small to be called a dwarf planet. The shadow itself is a little under 2” wide.

I took this picture in the afternoon, using the natural daylight. The intensity of the light was sufficient to cast a very dark and distinct shadow on the white surface.

Macro Mondays theme : Yellow

Yellow is one of the primary colors used in painting. In a matter of fact, the yellow ochre pigment was one of the first colors used in art.

For my picture, I had to curl my skeleton leaf to make it fit in the 3” guideline.

Little cherry tomato crying because the spring onions were cut up. Oh' how sad.

For Macro Monday this week 17-02-2020 with the theme of Vegetables I decided to try out some complementary colour combinations.

With this in mind, and with red and green vegetables available it did seem a no-brainer.

The cherry tomatoes were very small so this macro image is way off the 3 inch guideline.

I did spray the vegetables with water and took the image outside, I really shouldn't have bothered though at the end of shooting nature was providing all the droplets I could have ever dreamed possible, good old storm Dennis.

Macro Mondays Member's Choice theme ''Found In The Kitchen''

For this week Macro Mondays theme “Found in the Kitchen”, I decided to use two small cookie cutters. They both are 1.25 inches in width but overlap to make sure they still fit in the 3” guideline. I mostly use these cookie cutters to create different vegetable shapes for decoration when I do stir-fry. It works best with peppers or carrots. Everything tastes better when it looks good isn’t it? 😉

Day 1 of 366 (year 2)

So, first off, let me start by saying that the Flickr Roulette Group asked us to post the first photo we took in 2008 and post it unedited...so that would explain this nonsense. Never leave a drunk woman alone in the bathroom with 2 cameras and some music...hmm, at least I think I remember hearing some. Yes, I am wearing the same clothes and tiara etc. from my final 365 shot of year 1 ( simply because this was taken moments after the clock struck midnight).

Next, I have another long entry for you all....

i welcome 2008 with open arms, with an open mind and

with an open heart

...

sometimes i think it silly, to mark today, any more or less significant, than that of yesterday. i wake up every morning trying to learn from past errors and using that knowledge to move forward in my day, in my life. sometimes, it doesn't go as planned.

i do understand that today is nothing more than me technically nailing up a new snazzy calendar on the wall and trying to remember to write 08 on my checks instead of 07...and i do realize that any other importance i place on today is self inflicted, but it does give me some sort of guideline and hope for a fresh start. is that so wrong?

i do make resolutions every year. i don't share those with anyone. they are for me and for me alone. i am proud to say i accomplished 3 of them, so i do give myself some props here.

this morning i woke up with the best feeling running inside of me. i took my first deep breath of 2007 and could feel it to the point of chills. far different than the feeling i had 365 days ago for reasons i don't feel the need to get into right now ( i am sure you are all sick of reading this crap on my stream over the last few days).

2007 has finally come to an end. for some of us it was a good year and for some of us it was a bad year. whichever it may be, we all have something in common. we have today.

...and for anyone who knew her, today marks the 15th anniversary of alyse's passing. she will always be in my heart.

i try not to live in the past ( yesterday is gone)

i try not to live in the future ( tomorrow hasn't happened)

all i can ask of my friends and family

...

is simple

...

be here now.

~all my love~

jennifer

oh one more thing:

I am starting a 365 project that any of you are more than invited to join in with me. I have this silly book called 365 Daily Instructions for Hysterical Living and the book claims to change your life. Each day you attempt to accomplish the task at hand. I figure under my daily portrait ( yes, you heard me, I think I am doing a year 2) I am going to write a small blurb about the experience. If people actually want to do this with me, I will set up a group...but otherwise, you can live vicariously through me.

Day 1: A Warm Up

As this is your first day, you should warm up with an easy task that will only change your life a little bit. Choose one of the following options ( and then the book gives about 20 or so)--you can choose to do more than one if you are daring!

I chose the following:

I decided which one of my toes was the prettiest. I decided it was my second toe on my left foot ( next to the big toe) because it has a freckle on it.

I also went on a one minute hunger strike.

oh and I sexually harassed myself.

Thank you all for reading and Happy New Year to you all!

Highest position: 89 on Thursday, January 3, 2008

I think I will stick to the last one.

I'll keep up the good work with tearing down fences, open up gates, searching for answers, being with my loved ones, taking care of my health both inside and outside.

I don't think you should wait to start with new purposes, new resolutions.

If they are correct for you, you must start ASAP.

Following my intuition is my guideline, if something or someone is not good for me, I do my "swooooosch" and off it goes

A nice clap on my own shoulder is one of the things I give my self, especially when I think I have solved some of my life mysteries - acknowledgement is important 🙏

Macro Mondays theme ''Evolution''

The art of making coffee is an individual choice. The evolution of coffee making goes from using a simple coffee pot to using a Coffee Filter or an Automatic Drip Coffee Maker, a French Press, Instant Coffee (why not!), an Espresso Machine, or most recently a single use Capsule Coffee Maker. Whatever is your preference, home made or at your favorite barista joint, there is no better way to start your day!

My picture includes coffee beans, fresh ground coffee, and an Espresso Capsule. Everything sits comfortably within the 3 inches guideline.

Macro Mondays theme : Reflection

For this week theme I used three small shells and some imitation pearls. I placed them on a mirror and installed a graphic paper featuring a wave-like pattern in the background. This is what created the colorful texture reminiscent of the sea. The whole frame is well within the 3” guideline.

I recently joined a really cool group on Flickr known as My day, yesterday.

Shoot video throughout a day in your life, then put it together and upload it the next day. Don't add any music or sound effects, just use what the camera recorded.

The challenge is making your entire day's worth of shooting fit within the 90-second guideline for Flickr videos. NOT easy! I originally shot over 70 minutes of video. Editing it down to about 7 minutes was a breeze. Editing it down to 90 seconds from 7 minutes has taken the better part of any spare time I've had in the last 4 days. This is the first time I've ever edited actual video, and I have no clue what I'm doing, obviously. My transitions are terrible! But I'm learning, and totally enjoying it. I would love to see my contacts do this (hint-hint!). Try it- it's fun!

Oz characters from poster

Yellow Brick Road from clip-art

The road is first introduced in the third chapter of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The road begins in the heart of the eastern quadrant called Munchkin Country in the Land of Oz. It functions as a guideline that leads all who follow it, to the road's ultimate destination—the imperial capital of Oz called Emerald City that is located in the exact center of the entire continent. In the book, the novel's main protagonist, Dorothy, is forced to search for the road before she can begin her quest to seek the Wizard.

Another shot from my recent trip to San Diego. This is taken along the shores at Nicholson point near La Jolla. I really felt like I came away with a lot of interesting and different shots from this one shoot. I normally have a rule of not posting more than one from a given shoot, but I have violated that several times this year so clearly not much more than a vague guideline now. This was a long exposure taken just after a large wave broke right in front of me. I didn't realize during the shot that I had water droplets on the filter. I decided that it looks kinda cool so I kept them rather than trying to fix it up. It seemed to add to the 'alien landscape' feeling. I came away with a few of these surreal alien landscape type shots so I'm going to put up a short series over next few days or weeks with 'Neptune' derived titles. I wish I could say I'd set out with that vision and captured it exactly as I planned. But that ain't how it went down.

*Cooked before eating (a light sauté in butter gives an excellent, mushroomy, umami flavor and dense, meaty texture), although some people have prolonged gastrointestinal distress afterwards (up to 6 or 8 weeks) [for those who really want to try, parboiling the mushrooms briefly [or 10 solid minutes in lightly salted water, and use this boiled water as a mushroom stock or for risotto, but sadly, after this rough treatment of boiling, the mushroom loses flavor and some of its meaty texture, becoming a bit rubbery, and takes on an almost exclusively crunchy texture at the edges, but it's one way to remove whatever compounds that disagree with some people’s digestive systems]; however, the operative words for eating them is: approach with caution, be certain of your identification by a white spore print, and sample very small quantities at first until you know how your body will respond to this mushroom – the decision to eat or not to eat other species of mushroom popping up in and around our regional landscapes that are not absolutely identified as edible is easy to make…DON'T EAT THEM!! – this mushroom cannot be positively identified by observing features alone: a white spore print must be confirmed for positive identification, and this mushroom has look-alikes, some deadly, some making you very sick, so tips are a guideline only, confirm with reliable sources & a trusted local expert, and as always, it's your responsibility to ensure 100% any wild plant or mushroom you consume, as, even when properly ID-d, ringless honeys are notorious for giving some people acute GI problems: always try a very small amount, like a single cap, the first time, then a small portion (3-4), before consuming a whole meal's worth

Charlotte, NC – 2018AUG22 – Ringless Honey Mushroom:

We've had record rainfall lately – the wettest July on record and the 2nd wettest month ever – and just "overnight" these two clusters of edible mushrooms popped in our backyard, Armillaria tabescens, growing with explosive speed, often reach full maturity in a day or two, growing in clusters of multiple individuals arising from the same spot in the ground.

By average rainfall in Charlotte, NC (USA), the wettest month is March: an average 4.4" of rain falls on 11-12 days, though in July rain typically falls on more days, with 3.5" in 12-13 days, the driest month, November: an average of 3.0" in 9-10 days, though in October rain typically falls less days, 3.3" in 7-8 days.

Hope you enjoy the 16% of 49 photos I took here this day!

Air pollution is a mixture of man-made solid particles and gases in the air we breathe that pose serious health and environmental threats. Such as fine particles and greenhouse gases (like carbon dioxide) produced by the burning of fossil fuels, сar emissions, urban smog, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen and mold spores may be suspended as particles. Most of them come from energy use and agriculture.

Some air pollutants are poisonous. From smog hanging over cities to smoke inside the home, air pollution poses a major threat to health and climate. Inhaling them can increase the chance you'll have health problems. People with heart or lung disease, older adults and children are at greater risk. Air pollution kills an estimated 7 million people worldwide every year. World Health Organization data shows that 9 out of 10 people breathe air containing high levels of pollutants. More than 80% of people living in urban areas that monitor air pollution are exposed to air quality levels that exceed WHO guideline limits.

While climate change is a global process, it has very local impacts. Increasing temperatures are directly linked to poor air quality which, in turn, can affect the heart and exacerbate cardiovascular disease. For examples a rise in pollen, due to increased plant growth, or a rise in molds, due to severe storms — both of which can worsen allergies and other lung diseases, such as asthma.

Carbon dioxide is widely considered to be a pollutant when associated with cars, planes, power plants, and other human activities that involve the burning of fossil fuels. That's because carbon dioxide is the most common of the greenhouse gases, which trap heat in the atmosphere and contribute to climate change. Other greenhouse gases include methane which comes from such sources as landfills, the natural gas industry, and gas emitted by livestock, and is sulfur dioxide, a component of smog and a cause of acid rain.

Macro Mondays theme ''Staying Healthy''

Orange juice, there is no better way to get your daily intake of ascorbic acid! Ascorbic what? Well, vitamin C! We should get between 65 to 90 mg of vitamin C a day. A glass of orange juice will provide around 50 mg. Not bad!

For my picture I used a very small glass and I should probably drink two or three of these to get the recommended vitamin C intake. Or, of course, I could always use a bigger glass. 😊 Anyhow, for Macro Monday, I made sure I respected the 3” guideline.

Stay healthy! Drink your orange juice everyday, and take plenty of nice pictures! It’s good for the body and the soul!

Bicycle Tyre (or should that be bicicle tire? It would be much easier if we just all spoke Latin :) )

A bit of a rush for Macro Mondays theme transportation today. I really ought to be doing something else but the Flickr tremor had returned…

A child’s bike rescued from the local public tip and that will shortly be given to a local charity who can make very good use of it. It’s a real shame what gets thrown away at times, though I appreciate it takes time and effort to find good homes for things.

Although toys are excluded from the theme, as most parents will know, a child's bike is real transportation for a mini-human, so I thought I might get away with it. Cropped to well within three inches for size guideline.

Thanks for taking time to look. I hope you enjoy the image in spite of the tremor :) Happy Macro Mondays!!!

[Handheld in bright sunlight.

Developed in Lightroom and contrast and a bit of extra colour for the lichen (it’s clean air in the country so the stuff grows everywhere lol).

Sharpened in Affinity Photo with Clarity and High Pass/ Linear blend. Unsharp Mask was ugly for this one.

And, yes - well spotted: there is a bit of added motion blur on the diagonal, selectively masked ;) .

Slight dark vignette.]

Macro Mondays theme : Medical

For this week's theme, I used a stethoscope. More precisely, the chest piece and bell of a stethoscope. As a reference, the little heart is 1 ¼” wide and 1” in height. I made sure the whole frame respects the 3” guideline.

Thank you everyone for your visits, faves, and kind comments

Some title, huh??? Guilt, guilt, guilt, guilt..... I'm torn because I'm having a hard time lately, keeping up with all of you, yet I still need to upload a shot each day :( which is making me question my decision. Please know I'm trying and will be online tonight, trying to catch up with you.

Guess I should say that my challenge is a bit different. When looking at my calendar for last year, except for my 3 weeks in July (Wales and Ireland), I almost took and posted a shot each day. So MY goal was to take a shot EVERYDAY, but also to have a loose guideline that I could use MOST of the time (told myself the aim was to try to use the guidelines 50-75% of the time. I wanted to try to take 'other' shots and broaden the types of things i normally shoot. I like that aspect of it,....i mean who wants a stream of 100% sunrises when you can step out of your comfort zone and try other things. But I still feel like I cant keep up with everyone. SO just know that i'm not forgetting anyone, and will get to you asap.

A mental disorder or mental illness is a psychological or behavioral pattern generally associated with subjective distress or disability that occurs in an individual, and which is not a part of normal development or culture. The recognition and understanding of mental health conditions has changed over time and across cultures, and there are still variations in the definition, assessment, and classification of mental disorders, although standard guideline criteria are widely accepted. A few mental disorders are diagnosed based on the harm to others, regardless of the subject's perception of distress. Over a third of people in most countries report meeting criteria for the major categories at some point in their lives.

The causes are often explained in terms of a diathesis-stress model or biopsychosocial model. In biological psychiatry, mental disorders are conceptualized as disorders of brain circuits likely caused by developmental processes shaped by a complex interplay of genetics and experience.[1]

Services are based in psychiatric hospitals or in the community. Diagnoses are made by psychiatrists or clinical psychologists using various methods, often relying on observation and questioning in interviews. Treatments are provided by various mental health professionals. Psychotherapy and psychiatric medication are two major treatment options, as are social interventions, peer support and self-help. In some cases there may be involuntary detention and involuntary treatment where legislation allows.

Stigma and discrimination add to the suffering associated with the disorders, and have led to various social movements attempting to increase acceptance.
