On Sunday 1 October 2017, Belgocontrol participated in the annual Open Company Day and opened its doors to the general public.
A total of 1.200 visitors had the unique opportunity to step behind the scenes of air traffic control as it is performed at and around Brussels Airport and in the skies over Belgium.
They could choose between two different guided tours. One took them along the CANAC 2 national air traffic control centre, from where air traffic overflying Belgium is managed. The second tour took the Belgocontrol guests up in the air traffic control tower for a visit to the meteorological service and straight to the top of the tower, where they could see how Belgocontrol guarantees air traffic safety at and around Brussels Airport.
This photo depicts the city of Steenokkerzeel as seen from the air traffic control tower.

Sunday August 30th, 2009 - Starting from Kyoto Station, we took the train to Nara Station. Kyoto is like going back in time, especially from Tokyo, and Nara, unbelievably, is like going back in time even more. Our tour guide for the day was an English speaking woman from Kyoto, who explained that many people say the capital cities have not changed much since the time that they were the capital of Japan. For Nara, that time would have been between 710 - 784, only 74 years. And indeed, with all of the amazingly kept old buildings, and tame wildlife (such as the deer!), Nara is perhaps one of the most unbelievable places in the World, it is like being in a fairytale. We explored the city all on foot, with the help of our guide. She was worth every yen (2000 JPY per person for the day), and explained so much about everything that we would have never known without her!
Photo: Well, not really! This little guy came up asking for food, perhaps some of the deer cookies that are so popularly sold in Nara (made out of soy and wheat, apparently a deers favorite treat). But, once we told him we had no food... he left us in search of others who do. The friendly deer in Nara, a symbol of the city, and a sacred animal to the people, help make Nara feel so magical, it is almost unbelievable...
