Troubleshooting the LED took some time. I replaced it, and still couldn’t get it to work. I tested the old LED and saw that it was actually good, so I put the original back in and started poking around at ground connections. The faint outline you can see in the upper left corner of the hex shaped base is where the preamp ground connects to the chassis. The ideal grounding point is as close to that as possible.
I have been scraping the paint off the adjacent screw on the back edge and using a ring tung to connect a ground wire there.
