The Blue Grotto, known as Il-Hnejja (meaning 'The Arch') in Maltese, was given its English name by a British soldier who thought it similar enough to Grotta Azzuzza (The Blue grotto) in Capri.
Water is so indigo around this natural caves, mostly because of the minerals beneth it. Colors of the picture were not altered at all, that's the way the water looked like as you will see in some future shots :)
The grotto is inside this small house/temple. There's a small mound behind this building and the grotto is beneath under the mound. The grotto is a rotunda chamber that enshrined a large seated Buddha.

An inscription reads 'Nymph of the Grot these sacred spring I keep; And to the murmur of these water sleep; Ah! spare my slumbers, gently tread the cave; And drink in silence or in silence lave. '
I took this handheld in the dim light of the Grotto so it's a little grainy, but it's a beautiful work of art in an atmospheric setting.

So many things can go wrong when you visit Smokies on a July 4th weekend - you have swarms of people at any time of the day, Photographer's patience will be tested (at least mine was), bears and snakes can visit you, waterfalls are pencil thin. We hiked for almost 45 - 55 minutes to reach the waterfalls, and waited for another 30 minutes to just take this photograph.
But then, the best feature is the hardest to ignore - the lush greenery of the forest :) which makes the trip worthwhile!
The Swallow Grotto Trail follows a particularly narrow stretch of the Taroko Gorge in Taroko National Park, Taiwan. The potholes in the marble cliff were created by groundwater leaching out.

Hmm...never thought I was really into waterfalls, but I sure took a lot of pics of waterfalls on this Europe trip! This is a little unnamed waterfall hidden under a bridge on the trail to Slap Kozjak.
After a short hike we finally reached Grotto Falls in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Some people go to the beach but I go to the Mountains for vacation and this is why. More photos to come...
The most distinctive feature of Grotto Geyser is its cone, which is over six feet high , has one section missing and includes several calcified trees, giving the appearance of a ring of pinnacles surrounding the vent, all usually partly obscured by steam. The geyser was one of the first seven in the basin to be given an official name, in 1870. Eruptions of Grotto Geyser last between one hour and one day, separated by around eight hours. The height is usually not great, around ten feet, but the spectacle is made more impressive by the elegant cone. The vent is surrounded by shallow pools and intricate sinter formations.

This photograph is part of a set that has been created to celebrate the opening of South Tyneside Council’s new leisure centre, Haven Point, on 28 October. It focuses in particular on life along the foreshore at South Shields during the 1950s but also includes a few images from further down the coast.
South Shields has long been a popular seaside resort and also has a proud industrial heritage. Times have changed, though, and many of the old industries such as shipbuilding and coal mining have disappeared. Rather than stand still and accept this change in fortunes, South Tyneside Council is pressing ahead with an ambitious vision to transform the Foreshore, Town Centre and Riverside areas into vibrant destinations. Haven Point is a key part of this change.
Tyne & Wear Archives and South Tyneside Local Studies Library have a vital role to play in this. As South Shields is regenerated and forever changed the Archives and Local Studies serve as its memory. We keep alive a window into the town’s past, preserving the history of people, places and industries that no longer exist. South Shields must look forward but its sense of direction will be lost if it forgets where it came from.
These images, together with a fantastic selection from South Tyneside Local Studies Library, can be seen in a digital exhibition at Haven Point. You can also see images from the Local Studies Library online at www.southtynesideimages.org.uk/.

The Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) is a noted sea cave on the coast of the Italian island of Capri.
Depending upon the tide and the size of the swells pounding the entrance to the grotto, the guides will have passengers lie down while they pull the boat and sightseers into the grotto with a chain permanently attached to the cave entrance.

Grotto Geyser is a fountain-type geyser located in the Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park in the United States. Grotto Geyser is the namesake for the group of geysers that includes Grotto Fountain Geyser, South Grotto Fountain Geyser, Indicator Spring, Spa Geyser, and Rocket Geyser.
Grotto really looks like a head, two eyes and a nose sticking up. I have been to Yellowstone twice now and it is a very interesting rock formation that really would be very impressive to see erupt, since it is connected to a geyser that is one of the largest in the world.

Sorry, can't remember the name. This one is on the west side of the island, in the section of the Egadi's marine sanctuary where the protection of the environment is more strictly enforced. Here only local residents are allowed to navigate close to the coast (everybody else should keep at a little less than half a mile from it).

Yungang Grottoes - Datong
The Yungang Grottoes, (Wuzhoushan Grottoes in ancient time) are ancient Chinese Buddhist temple grottoes near the city of Datong in the province of Shanxi. They are excellent examples of rock-cut architecture and one of the three most famous ancient Buddhist sculptural sites of China. The others are Longmen and Mogao.
The site is located about 16 km west of the city of Datong, in the valley of the Shi Li river at the base of the Wuzhou Shan mountains. They are an outstanding example of the Chinese stone carvings from the 5th and 6th centuries. All together, the site is composed of 252 grottoes with more than 51,000 Buddha statues and statuettes.
In 2001, the Yungang Grottoes were made a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Yungang Grottoes are considered by UNESCO to be a "masterpiece of early Chinese Buddhist cave art... [and] ...represent the successful fusion of Buddhist religious symbolic art from south and central Asia with Chinese cultural traditions, starting in the 5th century CE under Imperial auspices." It is classified as a AAAAA scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration.

Datong Yungang Grottoes
The three main sites in China that are famous for their stone sculpture are Gansu Province Dunhuang, Luoyang Longmen and Datong Yungang. Among these, the Yungang grottoes are considered the first among equals, for their tremendous size, their ancient history and their relatively complete state of presenvation. In 1961, the State Council of China declared this a National Key Cultural Relics Protected Unit and in 2001 the stie was listed as a World Cultual Heritage Site.
With their 252 caves and 51,000 status, the Yungang cave art represent the successful fusion of Buddhist religious symbolic art from south and central Asian with Chinese cultural traditions, starting in the 5th century CE under Imperial auspices. The power and endurance of Buddhist belief in China are vividly illustrated by the Yungang gottoes.
The caves can be divided into 3 phases: cave 20 is one of the five earliest caves of monk Tan Yao, house of the sitting statue of Sakyamuni, which is 13.7 meters high, with a full and round face, majestic smile, slim up and a high nose, ears that extend almost to the shoulders, radiant eyes, and broad shoulders. It is the representative of the Buddha sculptures of the Yungang Grottoes.
