.The Blue Grotto in Malta is possibly the most scenic spot on the island. It blends natural caves with the bluest of blue water and can be experienced from a distance as well as up close.

Location: Kings Domain, near the Royal Botanical Gardens This feature, funded by public subscription, encompasses stonewalls and pathways in a leafy glade and fernery. It provides a tranquil setting within the Kings Domain. Water cascades through a series of features into a cement grotto, then flows into a series of circular pools. When the water feature is running, bridges and pathways provide meandering walkways around the pools.

The most distinctive feature of Grotto Geyser is its cone, which is over six feet high , has one section missing and includes several calcified trees, giving the appearance of a ring of pinnacles surrounding the vent, all usually partly obscured by steam. The geyser was one of the first seven in the basin to be given an official name, in 1870. Eruptions of Grotto Geyser last between one hour and one day, separated by around eight hours. The height is usually not great, around ten feet, but the spectacle is made more impressive by the elegant cone. The vent is surrounded by shallow pools and intricate sinter formations.

The grotto at Rydal Hall was such a lovely place for reflection.

One of the most interesting buildings in Kuskovo - Grotto 1755-1761 gg. built. Grotto was created under the leadership F.Argunova. Stone baroque pavilion lavishly decorated with sculpture, lion masks over the windows. Grotto wall decorated with colored glass and calcareous tufa. The architects had to impersonate Grotto water and stone elements. It consists of a central hall under the pink and green marble, and the northern and southern offices in cold and warm color schemes, respectively. Interior decoration was a complex and lengthy process. About 10 years, with interruptions was engaged "groticheskih affairs" German master Johann Vogt.

The walls and ceiling are richly decorated rooms sinks, travertine, glass, mirrors and pieces of plaster moldings.

Grotto in Kuskovo - the only Russian pavilion has retained its unique trim from the XVIII century.

Yes, I am back to waterfalls. This is one of my favorite falls in the Smokies, it is on the Trillium Gap Trail that leads to Mt. Leconte. Below is one of the Black Bears we saw on the trail to tho summit.

Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin Grotto Geyser.

Grotto Geyser is perhaps the most unusual of Yellowstone’s geysers. Geologists believe that hundreds (or thousands) of years ago, Grotto Geyser emerged in a stand of dead or dying trees and, through time, deposited layer upon layer of siliceous sinter (silica) over the stumps and branches.

You can get a feel for it's size with the approaching hikers on the right adding some scale.

Thanks for taking a look!

Have a marvelous Monday!

The scene at Grotto Falls at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It got really busy at the falls by the time we decided to try shooting it, with the main attraction being having your photo taken under the falls. It took a small miracle to get a shot with no people in the frame!

The Grotto, commissioned by Henry Hoare and built by Henry Flitcroft, was constructed in 1748. It is a large domed rocky chamber with anterooms lined with flint, pebbles and tufa.

There are no shells here. The stones, some possibly volcanic, were brought over to England from Italy.

Grottos were popular in Italian Renaissance gardens as places of retreat from summer heat.

The Grotto is a cave with a natural pool of clear blue water and Indian Head Cove is a scenic inlet located next to the Grotto. This is an excellent place to hike. This time of year, there are not many people around the trails.

Waterfall Wednesday - Grotto Falls is one of my favorite waterfalls in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is a relatively easy hike to get to and you can also find a bunch of salamanders on the way up.

The Grottos is a trail off Independence Pass outside of Aspen, Colorado. Beautiful place. Used a 9-stop ND filter to get some blur on this cascade in the mid-day light.

The grotto at Painshill Park was built between 1760 and 1769 and is decorated with naturalistic crystals and limestone formations. It fell into disrepair in the 1940s and was finally restored between 2012 and 2013 using paintings from 1770 as a guide
