A so-called 'grotesque' - presumably removed from high up on the church for safety reasons. St Luke's church, Sheen, Staffordshire

A 'gargoyle' is one of these where the mouth is a water-spout - but if the mouth isn't a water spout, then it's a grotesque, not a gargoyle.

In architecture, a chimera or grotesque is a fantastic or mythical figure used for decorative purposes. Chimerae are often described as gargoyles, although the term gargoyle technically refers to figures carved specifically as terminations to spouts which convey water away from the sides of buildings. In the Middle Ages, the term babewyn was used to refer to both gargoyles and chimerae. This word is derived from the Italian word babuino, which means "baboon".

Just playing, trying faces, inspired by the awesome masks Alex Kurth presented.

I liked this one :)

The stone masons in the Minster Yard clearly have a sense of humour. These grotesques will be placed in the walls so they stand out horizontally - less the shades presumably!.

Edited image from the Rijksmusuem of a Flemish grotesque-design mask. (I found these on the Rijksmuseum by way of the Public Domain Review.)

From the Daily Mail, Saturday 16/04/05. This woman - Cathy Jung - achieves a 15" waist by wearing a corset almost 24/7.

On a side-note, the paper used the story as a way to debunk the whole 'Kylie-wearing-a-16"-corset' thing. Except that Kylie herself has said that she never wore such a tiny corset, so what's the point?

want some? here's my offer - send me some money in the mail (if you trust me) & i'll send you as many 5x7's & 8x10's as you want (if i trust you).

what the hell would you do with copies of my grotesque photos?

well, they're pretty flamable, so you could ball them up & get a fire started with them.

or you could take them to a psychiatrist & find a diagnosis or two for me.

or you could even tape them to the walls of public bathrooms in the hopes that men might smear their sperm all over my tiny paper face.

those are just a few of the many possibilities, my friends. sky's the limit.

matte on regular paper. $3.00 for 5x7, $6.00 for 8x10. don't worry, they look nice. i promise.

message me about it, yo.

From the second half of the seventeenth century, we witness a process of progressive decline, degeneration, and impoverishment of the ritualistic forms and carnivalesque attractions in popular culture… The distinct carnivalesque view of the world together with its universality, its brazenness, its utopian character and predilection for the future begins to transform itself into a mere festive mood. The festival has virtually ceased to be the second life of the people, its temporary renaissance and rebirth.

i find it so odd that there are so many people that believe the hype about mexico being dangerous. there are more dangerous places in downtown phoenix or suburban tucson than the beach in mexico. one rule: simply "don't be stupid" works here, too ("no seas estúpido").

For most of my composites lately I have started with the subject and don't know where it will take me….the original idea was to have a gargoyle on the perch of Notre Dame. For the subject I used 2 lights one small gridded soft box behind and a beauty dish as my key light.
