Northern Sea Otter - Enhydra lutris kenyoni

This pair of otters put on quite a show, playfully grooming in Cordova Harbor.

This was a consolation prize for the very slow birding. A local guide/friend told us "we should have been there last week". Usually this is a good spot for shorebirds, but we saw almost nothing.

Grooming that last feather, in Gilbert, Arizona US

The harder trail wasn't groomed and apparently had a warning about it. One of the downsides with this Autofocus film camera is that I have no idea what it is focusing on.

Knapp Wedding - Gravenhurst, Canada - September 2015

I was very happy to be able to visit the African or Jackass penguin colony at Stony Point, at Betty's Bay - there were hundreds of penguins and other seabirds. This is an adult indulging in a quiet moment grooming itself.

The hamerkop (Scopus umbretta), is a medium-sized wading bird. The shape of its head with a long bill and crest at the back is reminiscent of a hammer, which has given this species its name after the Afrikaans word for hammerhead. It is a medium-sized waterbird with brown plumage. It is found in Africa, Madagascar and Arabia, living in a wide variety of wetlands, including estuaries, lakesides, fish ponds, riverbanks, and rocky coasts. The hamerkop is a sedentary bird that often shows local movements.

This beautiful Hamerkop was captured busy preening itself during a photographic safari on late evening game drive in Nairobi National Park, Kenya the only national park in the world within a city.

A Bourletiella hortensis on a small stone using its eversible tubelike vesicle from the collophore as a grooming system. Collembola have what is known as a collophore, this structure on the ventral side of the Collembola can produce 2 eversed vesicles, one on each side. The main functions of these is osmoregulation, water intake, and excretion. However, they can also be used to help in grooming, they can use these tube like structures to clean areas they can't reach with their feet, another use for these tubes is a self righting system, if they land upside down they can use these vesicles to self right, I also have seen these eversed pre jump in certain species, I imagine this is to aid them when they land.

Also note in this image that there is a cleaning droplet in place on the front foot, I wonder if they use their legs to help guide these vesicles in the required direction.

I would just like to say that I will be staying on Flickr, they have made a few improvements on last weeks initial revamp, at least now I can see up to 20 comments below an image, I just wish I could control what is being displayed on my homepage, also would like to see my sets displayed on my photo stream in a more pleasing fashion. Currently my sets look a real jumbled mess. Also really struggling with the speed of this new revamp, lots of white screens and Bad, Bad Pandas as well :o)

Of out early tomorrow, hope everyone has a great Sunday :o)

Extra image in first of comments :o)

A worker bee grooms honey off one of her hivemates. The honey gets all over when moving a colony. It’s a win-win: one gets cleaned, the other gets a meal.

I don't think I have ever seen a happier bride and groom. It was a real privilege being at this wedding.

I have finally finished my translation and am hoping to be more present now. Thank you all for your very kind visits and comments. ***
