This American White Pelican is a little late for heading south and I wonder what delayed it's leaving with others of it's flock.

Young female Calopteryx haemorrhoidalis performing grooming tasks on her abdomen, using her hind legs.

Sometimes bits of mud or cobweb remains remain on her abdomen and they take advantage of their stops at the perches to clean themselves.

A large number of specimens of this species still flew in the Verde river as it passed through the Alicante town of Tibi.

Just a little grooming.

A Great Egret grooms in the blue light of sunset at the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge, June 12, 2024. Or, is it flipping me off, giving me "the bird"?

Cold, sunny morning at Lea Valley, Seventy Acre lake.

Benni was so happy to see me when I came to pick her up. She jumped off the table and then back on so I could take this photo. It's nervous for her with Lauren, new owner and groomer, after 6 years with Salah.

This goes along with the Macro Monday theme of "My Daily Routine." This covers two parts of my daily routine, grooming and something to do with photography; whether it's capturing, developing or posting images, or admiring other peoples images on Flickr. This was the first morning using the Canon's new 100-400MM telephoto lens. I had read and been told it was much better than the first version, and boy is it ever! I shot this handheld at 1/40 and it's sharp (great image stabalization) and gives great color and a pleasing bokeh. At 1/40th of a second, the squirrel on the right is blurred as it is vigorously working away on the other. These two were hanging out together, so I'm not sure if they're siblings or paired up. Either way, they are darn cute. Keller, Texas, October 2016

Intercepted this brief tornado in the panhandle outside of Groom, Texas earlier this week. We were just in the right place to watch it start forming a condensation cone, spin up and dissipate. The hail core was amazing in this storm, represented by the teal color in in the sky. Hope you enjoy

The construction you see

here took eight months

to complete. Every piece

had to fit together when

the frame was transported

miles away. When completed, the
