These angels are soothing to my grieving heart. I hope you don't grow tired of them...

i'm signing out for some days, my friends.

love to all and thank you for being there!!!*

Watching the screen / filled with cars and people / awaiting the arrival / of 293 unnecessary dead. // Families, friends, robbed of the loved ones / because of a 'leader' / who handed weapons / to fools.

One of five images created for an exhibition about conflict. This series is about the people we appear to be on the internet, in comparison to who we may really be offline.

Grieve not that winter masks the yet quick earth,

Nor still that summer walks the hills no more;

That fickle spring has doffed the plaid she wore

To swathe herself in napkins till rebirth.

These buddings, flowerings, are nothing worth;

This ermine cloud stretched firm across the lakes

Will presently be shattered into flakes;

Then, starveling world, be subject to my mirth.

I know that faithful swift mortality

Subscribes to nothing longer than a day;

All beauty signals imminent decay;

And painted wreckage cumbers land and sea.

I laugh to hear a sniveling wise one say,

“Some winnowed self escapes this reckless way.”

My youngest son and I were riding bikes down to Bill's Camera and I spotted this flower on the concrete on the way there, noting where it was so I could get a picture of it on the way back. On the way home, I purposely stopped my bike in a place that I thought would prevent my son from coming along behind me and running over the flower. He managed to do it anyway.

But he only hit one petal, so no harm done.

"...Against us is raised the bloody flag of tyranny..." (from La Marseillaise)

Last September we strolled down the Promenade des Anglais in Nice on a warm evening, enjoying the lovely curve of the Mediterranean shore. Never could I have imagined the carnage that took place in this very location last night on Bastille Day.

There are now so many such scenes of bloody mayhem: Paris, Brussels, Orlando, Baghdad, Istanbul, Dhaka, Beirut... We know more are coming. I can only hope we choose leaders who will respond with intelligence and steadiness rather than embark on their own version of holy war based on prejudice and ignorance.

Meanwhile, I would rather remember Nice as it was on that beautiful night!

She was a young 30 year old wife and mother to 6 children. She left us much to soon. The inoperable brain tumor claimed her life. She was greatly loved and will be missed. There are times when social distancing doesn't matter anymore. This is one of those times. #lifewithCOVID19

This is another shot from Lakeview Cemetery when I visited on friday. I am continually struck at the detail and lifelike appearance of so many of the monuments.

Usually, there is just a sculpture of one person, but this particular grave was quite large and had two. I was amazed at the realistic expression and the overall sadness here. I was stopped in my tracks and took some time to admire this, took several pictures, but I think this one was the best of the bunch.

She grieved Atticus’s death so deeply. Each of us did. Our friend and loyal companion, a loss so heavy, a shock so shattering. We cried and we shared and we retold the story of that night and wished we had done this or that differently, some little thing that would have changed that terrible outcome.

And the emptiness in our house echoed through the spaces as we shared memories of Atticus, as we went about our daily life.

Then, to my surprise, I found that, mingling with our grief, my heart, our hearts, yearned to love anew.

So we dreamed again. And planned. And counted down days. And now I watch my family, embracing this new little one.

And today I watch my daughter who feels so deeply, who loves and cries and laughs with her whole soul, learning that our hearts expand, finding she is willing to take the risk, breathing deep and resting in the discovery that she is ready to love again.

Grievers gathered in front of the Supreme Court building last night to honor the memory of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose illustrious life was long, but not long enough. She died in service of our country. We must do everything we can to ensure that her dying wish, that she not be replaced on the bench until a new president is installed, comes true.

Early morning at Derby Schoolhouse Museum, Derby, Tasmania.

The monument, featuring a sculpture of a grieving woman and child, commemorates the fourteen people who died in Derby in the flood of 1929.

On the 4th April 1929, following record rainfall, the dam which provided the water used by the Briseis Tin Mine collapsed and a wall of water up to a hundred feet high surged towards the town. The volume of water was so huge that it caused the Ringarooma River to reverse the direction of its flow as far as Branxholm about five miles upstream.

The flood devastated Derby. Fourteen people died, scores of buildings were destroyed and operations at the mine were brought to a standstill.
