Many grieving hands of leaves lovingly caress the body of the departed family elder.
Israel began marking its annual Holocaust Remembrance Day at sundown on Wednesday.
In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."

"Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky.
Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never."

every perfect forgotten sentence,
you grieve their going away, but that is not how it is.
Where they come from never goes dry.
It is an always flowing spring."

Thousands of years merely play like fireflies in darkness.
Pyramids all about. The smell of coffins.
Moonlight upon sand. Here and there shadows of date palms
Like disintegrated columns. Assyria stands dead - humbled.
Stench of mummies on our bodies: all of life's business is finished.
"Remember?" she asked. I queried merely, "Yes?"

On 21st of February in 1952 Pakistan authorities, refusing to grant Bangla --- the language spoken by people in the then East Pakistan --- let loose police to brutally thwart a movement by Bengalis over demand that Bangla become a state language. Several lives had been lost - students and others - in that savagery which eventually achieved Bangla its due honour in Pakistan and later the glory of International Mother Language.
Followed by cries of mothers who lost their children, hopelessness of women who lost their husbands, and others who lost their future in hands of political terrorists.
It is a bit overwhelming to think that cremations along the Ganges have become a major tourist attraction. At the time of my visit, there were about a dozen tourist boats hovering just off shore of the major cremation ghat shown here. Photography is not permitted in this area on shore, but off shore is ok. Go figure. I can't imagine what the grievers feel to be "on stage". However, like all the others, I snapped away at this incredible scene.
The ritual of cremating ones departed along the holy Ganges River takes place 24 hours per day at a few of the Ghats in the holy city of Varanasi.
As I mentioned in the caption to my last image, I actually got temporarily lost from my tour group the evening this image was taken, and found myself standing right in front of one of the burning piles in one of the image (I could feel the heat from the fires as I was within 20 feet of it). It was surreal. Luckily after some quick backtracking I reconnected with my group, who were some distance away.
This is my friend Benjamin Laub aka Grieves. Last winter he got signed to Rhymesayers and needed some new promo shots. We rented an expensive light kit and shot in various locations around Seattle. It's funny that the photo they ended up using was one we took on our way to QFC to pick up beef brisket for dinner. Completely natural lighting. Oh and it was taken around December 2009 not Oct. 2006 like the info says.

Very upsetting image when I realised this Owl was sitting on a (probably) deceased relative at the side of the road. It was not feeding, just loooking around. It allowed me to (accidentally) drive to within 1 metre of it without moving.
I wanted to create something that screamed pain, grief, loss and maybe even anxiety. I thought of just doing two bodies and then three and just decided to add even more to create a better feeling.
Also, I'm trying to not use red, at least for a while. Even though its my favorite color, I tend to use it all the time and I'm trying to use other colors that I don't typically use.

Figured I'll re-upload this one after I gave it some more love in post processing.
Three Sisters (2 left) on Tongaporutu Beach. Amazing place to visit if the tides will let you. Watch the tides and plan ahead as the swells can get you by surprise and are very dangerous.
