It grieves me that so many believers view the doctrine of God's sovereignty as a deterrent to a healthy, vibrant prayer life. That kind of thinking demonstrates an inadequate, incomplete and unacceptable understanding, both of God's sovereignty and of prayer. In truth, we pray because God is sovereign – He alone has power over all human events. In praying, we don't run from His sovereignty, we run to it. It's absolutely true that God is sovereign over every detail of our lives. Job acknowledged that even the number of every person's days is determined (Job 14:5). Life and death are in His hands (Jas. 4:15). Yet we eat and breathe and sleep and take measures to avoid any kind of calamity that might end our lives prematurely. Why? That's the very same question as, "Why pray if God is sovereign?" Here's the answer to why we need to breathe, and why we need to pray: God ordains the means as well as the end. And our prayers are one of the important means by which He accomplishes His will and glorifies Himself in the process. (John MAcArthur)

I'm grieving for my Pro Account, which will expire in 5 days. Enjoy it while it lasts, cause I can't afford to renew it.

My son told me about the arson at Kyoto Animation that occurred today. So sad! Mikuru Asahina, a character from Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is crying for the senseless loss of 33 lives.
(Mikuru comes with 3 faceplates, I changed her faceplate and hands for this photo.)

My youngest son and I were riding bikes down to Bill's Camera and I spotted this flower on the concrete on the way there, noting where it was so I could get a picture of it on the way back. On the way home, I purposely stopped my bike in a place that I thought would prevent my son from coming along behind me and running over the flower. He managed to do it anyway.
But he only hit one petal, so no harm done.

Last September we strolled down the Promenade des Anglais in Nice on a warm evening, enjoying the lovely curve of the Mediterranean shore. Never could I have imagined the carnage that took place in this very location last night on Bastille Day.
There are now so many such scenes of bloody mayhem: Paris, Brussels, Orlando, Baghdad, Istanbul, Dhaka, Beirut... We know more are coming. I can only hope we choose leaders who will respond with intelligence and steadiness rather than embark on their own version of holy war based on prejudice and ignorance.
Meanwhile, I would rather remember Nice as it was on that beautiful night!
