Green Heron

Circle B Bar Reserve

From Cornell:

From a distance, the Green Heron is a dark, stocky bird hunched on slender yellow legs at the water’s edge, often hidden behind a tangle of leaves. Seen up close, it is a striking bird with a velvet-green back, rich chestnut body, and a dark cap often raised into a short crest. These small herons crouch patiently to surprise fish with a snatch of their daggerlike bill. They sometimes lure in fish using small items such as twigs or insects as bait.

From your photographer:

I've seen them often slowly move forward while stalking as well - so maybe moving one foot in front of another over the span of 30 seconds - other times they've remained seemingly motionless for long periods of time. I haven't seen one using a lure yet.

See the post in the comments for a photo of this Green Heron with its neck extended.

On our morning walks in Mexico, we were always trying to spot birds. It was nice to see this female Green Kingfisher pause after scooping a small fish from a pond.

For the Macro Monday challenge "Chip" (April 18th 2022)

I couldn't remove the chip from the motherboard, so I just got as close as I could. Under the macro lens a motherboard can look like an industrial complex! It's fun to shoot! 😊
